General :: "Booting" A Lxc Machine Hangs / Solve Without Removing Hardware Detection From Sequence?
Mar 1, 2010
When I try to "boot" a lxc (linux container) machine it hangs on hardware detection. Can this be solved without removing the hardware detection from the boot sequence?
I have debian/sid on my new hp/Compaq Presario CQ62 laptop. I installed usplash and started getting booting issues every fourth or 5th boot. The system stops responding till I power off the system by pressing the power switch. I checked the syslog and noticed that it also stopped without logging the cause.
By the way, except the above issue, every thing works great on my laptop with debian/sid including the wireless using the native linux driver which I obtained from hp website.
I have Fedora 8 and it was working without any errors, during the shutdown some messages error appears ... Field ... when I reboot Fedora 8 again and when the system is rebooting " Uncompressing Linux .... Ok, booting the Kernel Red hat nash version 6.0.19 starting" at this point it hangs. Since one month back, I removed the default gcc and reinstall old version of gcc for installing NS2.28. It was working without any problem or error.
I requested a Live CD from ubuntu. when it arrived i booted from it to try Ubuntu without installing. i booted from the live CD for about 5 times. now when i want to install Ubuntu it just hangs when the booting screen appears (when its written Ubuntu and 5 dots are flashing behind the word) now i dont know what is the problem, i have also tried a different CD-ROM but same result. the CD is new/ scratch less but it just wont boot. hangs up all the time. Now i dont know how to install Ubuntu. 1- i can make a bootable USB. i downloaded the ISO and made a bootable USB with Universal USB installer, set my computer to boot from removable but that too didnt work. 2- or i can write my own cd. i will do that but i just wanted to find out why the CD doesnt work after working for 5 times.
i could not change the sequence of dual booting from the grub menu.lst, due to it shows a blank screen when i put the command in the terminalayan@jayan-desktop:~$ sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst [sudo] password for jayan:
I installed lucid the other day on my laptop, the first time it booted after installing it gave two error messages (unfortunately I can't remember what they said). The errors stopped appearing after that but once I select Ubuntu from the boot menu, it just hangs on a black screen for a good 15 seconds at the least before it runs the plymouth screen for like 2 seconds (the progress bar is already full) and then goes into the login screen. Here is my boot chart:

I was wondering if anyone can tell from that what is causing the issue and perhaps how to fix it? The boot log is like 3 lines long and is completely normal.
I have never had this problem before but when i boot the system hangs for about 2 mins when brining up my harddrive I am using scsi disk support and the newer ATA driver for my Harddrive (the same as ive always used but for some reason the system just hangs for like 2 mins then boots normally
this is somthing that urks me and i know im missing somthing the platform is a hp nc8230 notebook please request any information or how to provide it as i am new to linux (kinda) but for the life of me i can't figure this one out
Fedora has been pretty stable for me but in last days I had a couple freezes on my machine using vlc.
Remembering the trick Alt+PrintScreen and pressing the keys REISUB in sequence can shut down the machine in safely way, I tried thiat but in Fedora 14 doesn't work. The trick has gone?.
I m trying to take a console of linux machine using putty. Whenever i connect to the machine and give password details to log into the machine it hangs for some time and then it allow the login.
I have a problem with the kernel update to 2.6.34.6. Up until 2.6.33.x my system boots fine, but with this update the boot stops at the moment that the mouse cursor should become visible. To resolve the problem, I've gone back to 2.6.33.x and removed the 2.6.34 kernel but I wonder what happens with the next kernel update. Anyone else having this problem?
I am attempting to start ruby in interactive mode from the command line. However, when I type ruby at the command line, it simply hangs. I know that I have ruby installed. Any ideas as to how to resolve this problem.
I have an old averatec machine (3200 series) Slackware 12.2 is working fine out of the box (13.1 is not even booting after installing, so i decided not to work in this direction) except for the wireless. the wireless is working some seconds after putting the interface up, later stops working, and if you mess around a little with the interface, the computer will hang (caps and num lock will flash and thats all) I tried diffferents kdrivers (right now i downloaded the latest linuxwireless and im using those drivers) same situation. was working fine with kernel 2.24 and old drivers (the iface wass called ra0, right now is wlan0) I know this is not much information, but i will try to get another pc to make a ssh and beeing able to get some traces.
I just joined the forum today. I'm not a linux beginner per se (about 4 years experience, now running Ubuntu Lucid on my laptop and windoze-free) and I built the desktop PC I'm typing this on six years ago. However, this is my first HTPC build and my first KnoppMyth install, and I've probably done something foolish.
This was an attempt at a fresh KnoppMyth 5.5 install on a virgin system. Hardware details:
MB: GIGABYTE|GA-880GMA-UD2H R CPU: AMD|PH II X4 925 AM3 RT RAM: 2Gx2|GSKILL F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH HD: 1T|WD 7K 64M SATAIII WD1002FAEX - OEM CD: BLU-RAY BURNER LG | WH10LS30 OEM - OEM
[Code]..
Basically, I just wish I had never bothered with KM5.5 and I want a do-over to go back to the beginning and put the LinHES 6.03 CD in and just do the installation. Since I can't do this, I'd like to at least be able to wipe everything I did and start fresh. Recall that I couldn't boot from CDROM even before I made the daft remove of LILO. The only time I successfully booted from CD was the very first time I turned on the machine to install KM5.5
My sid machine currently can't access debian.org, through apt hitting the repositories, surfing through Epiphany or Iceweasel, or pinging the server directly. It was working fine until about four days ago. However, if I type in the IP address, I can access the website, so it must be some sort of DNS issue. My home server, running Squeeze, can access debian.org just fine. Any suggestions for how to fix it?
now, I want to add my new Fedora system entry to my "central" lilo.conf, resident on another linux distribution. So, i've done
[Code]...
my lilo fedora entry boots fine but... at the middle of "after boot" loading the system hangs and stops the usual driver detection, etc (normally, it hangs on the CDROM detection or USB 2.0 camera detection).
I have a single boot ubuntu installation (that I like very much) that I want to migrate to a larger hard drive that has an XP installation on it so that I can dual boot on one hard drive. I've already partitioned it.
So:
Hard drive A: has Ubuntu on it
Hard drive B: has two partitions, one XP the other one waiting for Ubuntu.
I'd rather not just install Ubuntu all over again as it was annoying to install the wireless dongle. among all the other secondary installations and tweaks that have been done.
I just formatted the partition that contains fedora 15 using windows.. Now when I attempt to boot my PC the grub bootloader comes up and I cannot boot anything.... The error that I get|| i feel i need a boot command to boot boot win7 from grub... grub propmts me " minimal bash-like line editing is supported. for the first word tab possible list a possible commands completion anywhere else tab list
I've been trying out qemu to play around with some VMs. It's working well but I keep wanting to be able to view the text (linux boot process) that quickly scrolls by in the qemu window on startup of my linux virtual machine. Is there any way to retrieve this via qemu?
I have a problem booting ubuntu 9.10 after removing a disk drive that had windows 7 on it from my PC. Below is a run down of what happened. My system is MSI based MB with 3 IDE drives and DVD-writer on Primary and Secondary IDE channels. The MB also has a FASTTRACK SATA/IDE controller that I occasionally use to attach another disk for trial/backup purposes. (main backup is to external USB storage)For some time I have DUAL booted with grub2 with ubuntu 9.10 and windows XP all fine and no problems. Use ubuntu as its quick and easy on my old PC. XP for some legacy apps.As I had a spare IDE drive I thought I'd give a Windows 7 a trial. The Drive is attached to the FASTTRACK IDE controller and windows 7 installed with NO OTHER drives attached.
All OK so far!Reattached my other drives and could boot into ubuntu/XP as required. Ran sudo update-grub which found new windows 7 Ok! So for the last month I was happily play/using all 3 OS booting from grub2 loader as required.Windows 7 30 day trail has now expired so no longer of any use to me. So I decided to remove windows 7Here's what I did:..........1st: Just unplugged the disk drive with windows 7 on it! XP boots OK but ubuntu fails to boot! 2nd: Re-attached the windows 7 drive and wiped with ubuntu disk utilityRe-ran sudo update-grub windows 7 no-longer on grub2 menu! Reboot OK windows 7 no-longer on grub2 menu ubuntu and XP boot ok. Remove (empty)windows 7 drive again and ubuntu fails to boot
I just installed Ubuntu Lucid yesterday, and I'm dual-booting with Windows 7. (They're on separate physical drives if that's relevant.) I've discovered that whenever I restart the computer, it doesn't matter if it's from Windows or Ubuntu or just hitting the reset button, it hangs at "Loading Operating System." If I start it cold, though, it usually works fine. I tried Googling but I couldn't seem to find anybody else with this problem. I'm guessing it's a GRUB problem? Does anybody know how to fix it?
Last night I shut down my computer and left, since it goes automatically after I tell it to shut down. This morning, my computer was still on, with some shutdown messages like "Stopping MySQL server mysqld" and such. The last line said "deactivating swap..." and didn't appear to be doing anything. code...
I want to install fedora 10 on my PC. But after booting from DVD a screen comes which tells me to:
" - to install or upgrade in graphical mode, press the <ENTER> key - use the function key listed below for more information [F1-Main] [F2-Options] [F3-General] [F4-Kernel] [F5-Rescue]"
when I press "Enter" nothing happens, even the function keys does not work & after some time PC restarts. The DVD is ok I have checked it in my friends PC, it works on his PC very well. My PC configuration is:
Precessor : Core 2 Duo 2.20 GHz Ram : 1 GB Hard Disk : SATA 160 GB maxtor OS : Windows XP service pack 2 BIOS Version/Date:Intel Corp. NL94510J.86A.0010.2007.0523.1650, 5/23/2007
I have tried to install fedora 10 in "virtual box 2.1.4" but the result is same.
Dell optiplex 740 running slackware64-13.0 2.6.34 #1 SMP Mon May 17 13:50:21 EDT 2010 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux downloaded install DVD using Eric's mirror script burnt two dvds
I get the screen asking if I need to enter anything press enter the dots run across the bottom of the screen then jump to the top and machine dies after line "Booting kernel" even the 'elephants can't get it to move' power off is only option other dvd's are bootable including ones burnt on this machine after the 13.1 dvd
I have just upgraded my desktop (x86_64) from Fedora 12 to Fedora 14, using a DVD.At the end of the upgrade I rebooted as instructed. The boot process never writes anything to the console. I don't see a cursor or a prompt. I can't do anything iexcept ctrl-al-del to reboot, so I appear to be completely stuck
As most of us know when you start the machine with the Install Disc in the drive you get a menu that reads:
Welcome To Fedora 15! Install a new system or upgrade an existing system Install system with basic video driver Rescue installed system Boot from local drive Memory test
But when you try to boot the install DVD on and EFI based Mac...you only get Booting Fedora 15 in 3...2...1 ...and then the system hangs.
If any users are having trouble with Fedora Install Media...you can usually use the Install Media from a previous release! In this case, I used the Fedora 14 (64-Bit) disc to install Fedora 15 by simply replacing the 'F14' with a 'F15' in the URLs of the Install and Update repository dialog boxes.
On a few VMs. Sometimes, when powering them on I get the GNU GRUB menu...
Code: GNU GRUB version 1.97~beta4 Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic (recovery mode) Memory test (memtest86+) Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200) etc
But there is no countdown for a default boot. It just hangs here. Indefinitely. Until I make a choice by pressing the enter key with "Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic" highlighted (default). I don't know if this is because the VM may not have been shutdown properly or what the case is, but this is unacceptable as I need these systems to continue to boot and get back on line regardless of the reason they were powered off.
i m trying to install ubuntu 10.10 on my desktop from usb it hangs when booting so i cant even install it and if i try a diffrent flash drive does nothing but the odd thing when i use unet-bootin it boots up but i get an error on the install Note: i am on 64bit os and my only option is usb
