I'm trying to make a local package server for my offline development network. Can anyone recommend a mirror containing every single package for CentOS 5.4 x86 as well as 64 bit? I've looked around but I haven't had too much luck yet.

I'm looking to convert my HTPC into a remote android dev server for my girlfriend and myself, however I want to make sure that it is possible to do what I am looking to do.Is it possible to map local devices to the VNC server (such as an android phone) so that we can work on development over VNC with phones we have on our client computers? I know its a trivial matter to map local drives over VNC, but what about non-HD devices, can I still maintain full functionality as if the device itself was plugged directly into the server?'ll be installing ubuntu again this weekend, never got around to it after my last HD failure.

View 14 Replies View RelatedSo I have apache running on my local computer. When I open up local development sites in tabs in my browser, apache threads are started. That's as it should be. However, when I close the tabs, close the browsers, and then run system monitor/system task manager, I get a long list of apache threads that are sleeping, waiting around for god knows what. How do I get these apache threads to stop hanging around?

I assume the last problem I encounter was lack of development package in the system. Hence, I tried "yum install Xorg-devel" and the terminal reply"No package xorg-x11-devel available."
I tried to build the latest lua package from source but the development libraries are missing. Where are they?

I am trying to install tilp, a program for the link between a computer and a Texas Instruments calculator. I have downloaded all the packages to a local directory. I tried telling yum to install all the packages at the same time, though, the dependencies still fail to resolve (though they are all in the directory). I don't know if it would be safe to force install without the dependencies (even though I would install them later).

I went to the yast--DSL to make a new adsl connection.But after I configured everything,yast told me one package needed.The package's name is "linux-atm-lib". I hunted down kdevelop4 through yast. I found it finally by entering "Integrated Development Environment" in the search text box, clicking "Description" only, and clicking Search. I'm backtracking now to figure out how to find it and other development tools/ide's quicker in the future.I clicked the Technical Data tab for kdevelop4 and in the details, "Package Group" shows "Development/Tools/IDE".In Yast, I then clicked on the "Package Groups" tab and searched on the left-hand side for "Development". But it's now there.
In OpenSuSE 10.3, when I viewed the Package Groups tree structure, there was a node, "Development" which contained kdevelop3. But I can't seem to find the "Development" Package Group in OpenSuSE 11.2.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor a project I have had to migrate from FreeBSD to Linux and I have decided to choose Debian because I have had good experiences with it.However, since my main development machines are completely offline I have run into a little bit of trouble.Is there a way to specify a .deb package and get a tool to recursively list (and fetch) all dependency packages that are not included in the base install and put them in a folder?
I do not like to be tied to the internet (Never a good idea) and so this would save me a heap of trouble (and journeys to an online PC)Once I have these folders containing packages, then I can simple cd into one of them, dpkg -i the relevent .deb and not have to rely on the DVDs or worry about connecting to an online repositoryLife will be good!Suffice to say FreeBSD can do this well so I strongly believe that Debian will be able to aswell but since it is not normally done, I havn't found much on google about it

- Has this package been renamed, or is there another one in place of it?
- Is this package going to be available again in the future?
PS: I am aware that one can install the sdk by downloading the installer, but for unattended install I prefer the apt package...

its a simple feature and its present in smart and synaptic,yet its not in yast (or i havent found it yet.
i would use smart package manager but in my home connection for checking for updates ,yast is better ( smart downloads filelist.xml.gz that is very way biger than what yast downloads (though it enables smart to show filelist of package BEFORE installing) .so at home i can check for package update with yast ,buy downloading them is very hard. (my connectioon is very bad (i live in iran) and yast mirrors are NOT the best of servers ,so yast gets interrupted in middle downloading a rpm and the whole process is waiting for me to press retry ,so i cant do updates and installs overnight.btw is there some way to tell it to retry always or a number of times automatically? )

Is there any easy way to do offline package upgrades in Ubuntu? I was using debian's repository for the longest time to get individual packages, then found launchpad. Is there a script or something that will tell you what the dependencies are then let you copy them to a thumbdrive or something?
I know online upgrades are great but there are some cases where online isn't an option. Here's an example. Getting wine. There used to be this repository of .debs from the wine website, but now I can't find it. Launchpad has it, but it's all individual files.

View 6 Replies View RelatedFolks, I have an old notebook (IBM T23) running as my print server on the home network. Recently my wife needed to fax some documents. No problem, said I, I will just set up a fax server. That was months ago and I have achieved nothing more than dig a deep pit. Sigh.
Could some kind person give me step by step instructions for this?
Setup: LAN including IBM T23 with an external modem (it has an internal winmodem, but I expect using that to be just too hard) and running FC10. This machine currently has the only printer, accessible from all machines on the LAN.
Wish list: Be able to fax from any machine on the network, via the T23->modem. Preferably, to see the fax device as a printer on client machines, so it is a simple matter for my wife to 'print' to the fax. Machines on the LAN are FC10 (wife) and FC11 (me). Ability to receive faxen is not necessary, but if it is feasible I MIGHT try to set up for it too. The phone line is our normal house line, so I don't want the fax to pick up any incoming call unless I instruct it to.
Current status: Hylafax installed on the T23. So far cannot make it recognise the external or internal modems. Have not figured out how to make it appear as a printer on the T23 or over the LAN. The problem is me, but at my advanced age I am not too proud to admit my failing grey matter and ask for help.

Is there a way that I can forward requests from it to my computer to setup a LAN network of sorts over the internet. Specifically, there is a program I would like to use that requires LAN (you enter an IP to connect to). Is it possible to setup my server in a way that users could connect to my server's ip, which would then forward it to my home computer (I'm fine with setting up my home computer with programs that would allow this) that could host?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect to a nfs server on my local network ( the server is a fedora 12 box ) using slackware 13.1 but I am having some problems. First of all I am sure that the server is configured ok and my desktop can ping the server but when I try :
mount -t nfs 10.0.0.1:/home/usr/file /home/usr/tmp I get the following error : mount.nfs: No route to host
And when I try to rpcinfo -p 10.0.0.1 I get the error :
rpcinfo: can't contact portmapper: RPC: Remote system error - No route to host
I'm running into a little trouble trying to configure bind as a caching dns server on centos 5.6. for debugging purposes I've got iptables and selinux turned off, but I can't get see the dns service on my local network. on my server itself I can run nmap against it and see that port 53 is open, but if I try it from another computer on my network the port is closed.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI had problems with my Ubuntu Server 10.4, so I reformatted and reinstalled (I only choose OpenSSH from the install menu), then after it rebooted I installed apache. So I can access the machine via web, ssh and scp from within my local network, but strangely outside my network I can access it from web, but not ssh or scp. Nothing has changed on my router.

I have an Ubuntu machine running 10.04 desktop edition to act as a temporary/testing server until we set up a proper, dedicated machine with 10.04 server edition. I have installed Apache2 from the repos and it is up and running fine - locally. That is the problem, I can't access the server from other machines on the LAN. Ping works, btw. So I've been reading tutorials and howtos for the past week, but for the life of me, I can't find what I'm doing wrong. The standard Apache setup seems to be made to "just work", so although I've looked at the various configuration files mentioned in the tutorials, I haven't actually changed anything.
