I not a total noob to linux only a noob to apache.I am Running A lamp server on A VPS with myhosting.com. but try as i might i cant apache2 to load the right page. I have set document root to /slk/redretriever/ but when i load the page it still loads /var/www/vhosts/default/htdocs/.I cant figure out why please help.
View 5 Repliesi am able to try ubuntu and everything works fine until i try to install. the menu comes up to the first page where it tells you to plug in your machine and make sure there is enough disk space and network connectivity. when i hit next on this page the mouse icon changes but the next page never loads. the longest i let it hang there was 2 hours. ive tried multiple times with the same result.
im running from a flash drive on an ASUS Eee PC 1001P-PU17
I just got connected to the internet this morning - it works fine in windows but in linux the page never loads and the error message appears paraphrased as follows: "could not find server".

I have never done anything like this before so i typed in the website and got the apache test page saying that i should add this: /var/www/html/
1) i'm not really sure what to add it to
2) i've tried adding it to the website url and that comes up with invalid page
3) could someone please explain in simple terms how i can get on to the webpage so i can start adding content to it?

when booting up the system it promts for user and pass. After entering username and password followed by enter the system looks like its going to start. But no, it loads a white page for a couple of seconds and then go back to the section where you enter username & password. Why? the user and pass was correct. If i hit ctrl + alt +f1 and use the same username and password i can login with the CLI. But not in the graphical login prompt. How does such a problem gets fixed?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter installing FC11 on my Mac Mini intel terminals, I noticed the network config GUI is completely broke, So I continued with a hand configuration.
Everything seems ok eth0 is up , it has the correct IP, DNS and default gateway, but browser quieries take forever to load.
E.g. if I type Google in the browser it takes about 20seconds before it loads the page.
To add insult to injury, I have a 16Mbit/s Down 2.5Mbit/s uplink. the other 10 or so rackservers on the network responds fast, so it is nothing to do with the network or connection. They all run FC7-9.
The problem is squarely with FC11 and must be some bug not reading or resolving DNS correctly.
Anyone have an idea how I can figure this out with FC-11.
It seems to be the worst FC distro.
I generally was happy with all FC6-9, but 11 really sucks (the ppc version wont even install on my ppc terminals)
That the Mighty Mouse Wireless, worlks out of the box is very nice though, but that is all.

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 a909a. It was working fine until recently. Now when I go to print duplex, the second page is mirrored vertically and rotated wrong.
I suspect that a recent update to HPLIP has caused this, but there may be something else in play with the GS utilities also. The problem is that I have no idea about how to fix this. I was hoping an update would show up and a simple "yum -y update) would fix things. That still has not happened.
I am a student and would like to save paper, at least with my draft copies, but this makes duplex printing impossible.

In my logs for Apache I have lots and lots of failed attempts for incorrect incarnations of [URL]. None of them are anywhere near my alias for the index.php but yet phpmyadmin is broken. Is there away I can mess up robots like this. Send IP's that create multiple wrong page requests on my server back to their own IP address maybe? I would then just set thresholds to decide how strict to be. I did try fail-to-ban before but it is cryptic. I don't have it on this particular server.

View 14 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded to 11.04 on my Server edition I have been experiencing some problems with my FTP-server and Apache. Apache just says that the page is "forbidden" if I'm not logged in on the server, which means I need to go to the server and physically log in or I can do it trough ssh but then when I close my ssh client on my work computer the page is "forbidden" again. And I cant seem to reach the FTP-server from an external address so I need to be in the network to access it.

I run Linux RedHat and want to find out how can I replace the standard Apache 503 error page with my own? This is my configuration in the httpd.conf file for error pages. I have apache installed and I have it all setup so that when I create a user, in their home directory i created a folder called public_html and then that user can upload web content. Users then can browse to their site by going to[URL],,.How can I get apache to show a different or default page if the user does not have a index.html file in their public_html folder. Cause if they dont, you get a 401 saying you dont have permissions to view, etc. So id like apache to default to something else if the user doesnt have a index.html.

View 2 Replies View RelatedToday, the power was suddenly cut off in my house, then my home Ubuntu Server restarted after the power on, but when I use my laptop to view my wesite, the index.html suddenly became blank page, I did clear the firefox cache, doesn't work, still blank, and I changed browser, to seamonkey, the index.html still was blank, so, I am sure that the problem is coused by the server, and then, I put the index.html file to a subdirectory, which under the /var/www/home/index.html, and then I put the address < [url] > ,then,I can view my website the main page index.html.

Ive installed apache2 on the new server and moved all the files from one server to the other. I'm making tests in my local lan so I've edited my computer's hosts file to point to the name of each site to the local ip of the new server:
192.168.1.85 www.mypage.com
192.168.1.85 svn.mypage.com
192.168.1.85 trac.mypage.com
I have all the site definition files in /etc/apache2/sites-available I also have the used a2ensite to enable each page.
Whenever o use my browser to try and access each of the sites I always get the svn.mypage.com page and none of the others.

I am now using CentOS5 as the server providing Apache services. I have managed to setup the web page under /home/user1/public_html, now I wish to change the default web page of our server to /home/user1/public_html. i tried to modify httpd.conf, in which i changed the "/var/www/" to the above user directory, but didnot work. Please kindly suggest.
