Fedora :: Yum Stalls After Installing Rpmfusion

Dec 19, 2009

I started with a fresh install of fedora 12. I have never encountered this problem before but yum seems to stall when I install rpmfusion packages. I have tried this multiple times, it works as long as I do not install them.

It stalls after this line.

Code:

I am guessing it has to do with the rpmfusion servers/mirrors? I just want to install the propreitary wireless and graphics card drivers, can this be done without using rpmfusion? (i.e. alternatives to kmod-wl and kmod-nvidia)

Fedora Hardware :: Installing Driver For GT 330M From RPMFusion

Oct 23, 2010

I am wondering if there is someone who have succeeded in installing the driver for nVidia GT 330M from RPMFusion in Fedora 13.

I followed the instructions here [url], namely,

1. recreate the initrd manually

2.yum install kmod-nvidia-PAE

It didn't work. I also tried the method mentioned at the section 'Troubleshooting', but it did not either.

The trouble I encountered after rebooting is : The progress bar changed from an icon at the center to three lines at bottom. After the three lines reached at the end, the whole screen just went to blank.

I am guessing that the three lines, instead of the icon, only shows if your video card is not so powerful. And In my case, the reason could be the driver didn't work properly.

CentOS 5 :: Regarding Rpmfusion For Installing Vlc Media Player?

Dec 4, 2009

I am a start level person in linux with switching between linux and windows projects. I am trying to install vlc media player. But as observed through net, it requires rpmfusion first, it has some links about finding requisite tools and installing them.

1) First step: installing rpm fusion:

TRY1:

I went to "www.rpmfusion.org/configuration" and used the following command:

*********************************************
# su -c 'rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/el/updates/testing/5/i386/rpmfusion-free-release-5-0.1.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/el/updates/testing/5/i386/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-5-0.1.noarch.rpm'
*********************************************

But I got the following result:

*********************************************

error: skipping http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/el/updates/testing/5/i386/rpmfusion-free-release-5-0.1.noarch.rpm - transfer failed - Unknown or unexpected error

Fedora :: Old Version Of X264 On RPMfusion

Jan 25, 2010

Just wondering whether there are plans to upgrade the x264 in the rpmfusion repo to a more recent build. These are the current ones in rpmfusion and what I have installed. Build date is October 2009.

Code:
x264.x86_64
0.0.0-0.24.20090319gitc109c8.fc11 @rpmfusion-free
x264-devel.x86_64
0.0.0-0.24.20090319gitc109c8.fc11 @rpmfusion-free
x264-libs.x86_64
0.0.0-0.24.20090319gitc109c8.fc11 installed
Available Packages x264-devel.i586 0.0.0-0.24.20090319gitc109c8.fc11
rpmfusion-free
x264-libs.i586
0.0.0-0.24.20090319gitc109c8.fc11
rpmfusion-free

Unfortunately things like h264enc and I'm sure others have moved on ahead and the dependencies on the x264 libraries means things like ffmpeg, mencoder, gstreamer, vlc, avidemux are having issues. With major dependencies it's difficult to upgrade the individiual components. A couple of examples, ffmpeg requires a newer build as it has some issues with MS's dvr-ms format. Apparently it was fixed in a newer release of the code. Another is some of the encode parameters in x264 being used in h264enc such as "weightp", "mbtree" which appear to be only supported in newer versions of the x264 libraries. Any chance that this is being looked at and newer and more recent builds of x264, and then I suspect with mencoder, ffmpeg etc...?

Fedora :: F12 To F15 Stalls At Re-boot Using PreUpgrade?

May 26, 2011

I am trying to upgrade my F12 system ti F15 using the PreUgrade route. The initial package download goes Ok but on re-boot I can only access my old F12 system. df reports 44M avail in /boot which is on sdd1. Since I do have a multiboot system I checked that there was an "update" folder under "boot" and that it had the update versions of vmlinuz and initrd which it had. I edited "menu 1st" as described in the Pre-Upgrade notes setting the root entry to (hd0,0) as used for my working system and then did a re-boot. I selected the new upgrade entry in the GRUB menu but the system complained that it couldn't find a file. I have tried using root (hd3,0) but this does not work either. What am I doing wrong?

I am still in VESA mode.Although they claim they don't put stuff in non-standard places and use RPM, still there is something left over, as nuoveau driver no longer loads. Now that system configuration is all over the place, it is not clear what they actually changed or replaced.

Fedora Hardware :: Nvidia Drivers From RPMfusion Working But Slow In F14?

Nov 3, 2010

After upgrading from Fedora 13 to 14 via preupgrade (works well), the nvidia drivers for my "nVidia Corporation GT218 [NVS 3100M] (rev a2)" (it's a ThinkPad T410S) work - including 3D, but every thing paints slowly. The Desktop Effects work, but everything visual (menus painting, dragging windows, etc.) are all noticeably slow (and worked fine in F13).

Update - apparently this issue is related to the GTK theme in use. The default (Fedora, or Clearlooks, or a few others) results in this slow behaviour. Other themes, like Nodoka and a few others perform fine.

Fedora :: FC12 X86_64 Rpmfusion K3b-extras-nonfree Conflict?

Nov 25, 2010

I am trying to set up k3b. It complains about a missing mp3 decoder. Following this solution, I set up yum to use the livna repository and then found I actually needed the rpmfusion repo, so set that up as well. Now when I run "yum install k3b-extras-nonfree", I end up with a transaction error: Transaction Check Error: file /usr/lib64/libfaad.so.2.0.0 from install of faad2-libs-1:2.7-1.fc11.x86_64 conflicts with file from package libfaad2-1:2.7-16.fc12.x86_64

Any idea why the repo is trying to install faad2-libs x86_64 1:2.7-1.fc11 rpmfusion-free when all the other objects are correctly shown as fc12 and how do I get around this without breaking something which is already installed?

Fedora :: Rpmfusion On Fedora 12 Not Usable With Mirrorlist?

Dec 31, 2009

Today I had to debug something going on with yum, if you run it normally with rpmfusion using the mirrorlist's, it hangs at "collecting package sack". If you edit the rpmfusions repo files to point at the baseurl for each, it works fine or you can disable the rpmfusion repos entirely. I saw this was a problem a couple of weeks back but thought this was fixed.

UPDATE Nevermind, this is a known problem [URL]

I'm having trouble doing a delete on this message, doesn't the forum have the "delete message" check box in the Edit mode anymore? I don't see it now.

Fedora Installation :: F13 Live CD Stalls At Copying Imade To HD?

Progress bar initially moved fairly rapidly then stopped and installations stalls.

I've tried the installation three times with the same result. I've seen other posts referring to problems with SELinux, but this should not be a factor here as the install is clean.

When rebooting a fresh Fedora 15 install or even after the end stage of the actual installation itself, my Acer Aspire One (AOA110) with 16GB SSD and 3309 BIOS just stalls.

I have tried installing to the SSD and also to an external USB connected HDD.
In all cases the actual reboot process stalls when shutting down and I have to power cycle the netbook to reboot it. The boot process works perfectly and F15 starts up fine.

If I use a "poweroff" command instead of a "reboot" command, the netbook powers off correctly. It's just the reboot that doesn't work. All updates have been applied to F15.

I should mention that it works correctly under F14...
