Ubuntu :: Error: ./default_policy.sh Does Not Support Version

I just upgraded from Lucid to Maverick and I absolutely cannot get the proprietary fglrx driver to install. I've downloaded the binaries from ATI and they fail to install with a message that says:

I tried installing the drivers from the System>Administration>Additional Drivers and it fails with
SystemError: installArchives() failed Based on what little I could find I guess the newest version of Xorg broke the ATI drivers. Is this true and is there absolutely no way to use the proprietary drivers? I'm a World of Warcraft nerd and the fglrx drivers are the only ones that work for me

it's the catalyst for Radeon X700 downloaded directly from the official site of ATI. I have find on the HOW O's that the card older than the HD - series were not supported but why I can download this catalyst for the X700 on the official site if it isn't supperted? Here is also the lspci:

I am trying to reinstall ATI propietary graphics driver fglrx on Xorg 1.10.0.901, but it always fails with (something similar to): Code: ./default_policy.sh does not support version default:v2:x86_64:lib32:none:[my kernel] make sure that version is correctly set by --iscurrentdistro
I am not sure what is it trying to tell me, neither I don't know why lib32 is in the list. (It's 64bit Gentoo system). It used to work in past, but now I can't start X at all. Using my already installed driver produces Segmentation fault, X without any configuration stops on no devices found.
EDIT: Alright, I just discovered that fglrx driver does not support higher versions of X.org than 7.6, and I have 1.10.0.901 version installed. EDIT2: Actually, later I found out that my Xorg is supported by that driver, so I think it was the mess in packages&Xorg configuration which caused it. Nevermind...

When I try to install my propriety graphics driver. I don't know what it means. Here are the steps I took and what resulted:

I am trying to implement a chroot directory for a group of sftp users who all manage a shared directory. The relevant portion of my sshd_config file is below:

this is the latest yum reports as available. according to the error is would seem both 'Match' and 'ForceCommand' statements are not supported in this version of ssh? Do I have any options aside from installing from tarball from openssh.org? If I do that would that mean I could not use yum to maintain ssh on my system anymore? Not sure what to do, I have to chroot this group of users, I can't just chroot at the global config level because I need to still be able to ssh as my admin user to this box to administer it. I need the chroot'ing only for sftp purposes.

We will be installing some ibm software on our 2 Quad Core Intel server and ibm lists the OS requirements as RHEL 5 Advanced Platform Update 3 but we have the licenses for RHEL 5.3 (non AP). The question is, since we are not planning for any type of virtualisation and will have a single instance of OS installation, is there any reason (OS level) for the products being not supported on base version?
(I am also checking with IBM but would also appreciate some input from Red Hat as well) In other words, are there any hard dependencies or differences between AP and base versions other than virtualisation support?I just read that base version support only up to 2 CPUs. Does this include the Cores or it is just physical CPU sockets number (i.e will 2 CPUs with 4 core each still be supported).

I'm currently an user of OpenSuse, newer version of Suse don't support some of the hardware that I use and previous version of Suse will cease to have support in a few months. I have the HD4850 and, I wanted to know if it is possible to use the CLI to see which version of OpenGL is the latest version I can use according to my driver. If it's not possible via the CLI then, what's the next best way? (I can't find a website for the radeon driver listing the latest OpenGL support per supported card).

I am renting a dedicated server and I'm following a tutorial to install rutorrent. I'm asked to:

I've used VirtualBox in the past, and I have lots of virtual machines. However, Natty broke support for 3.2, so I tried 4.0. But 4.0 doesn't work due to the VERR_SUPLIG_OWNER_NOT_ROOT error. So i tried fixing it with setting ownership and group of /usr to root:root, recursively. (chown -R root:root /usr) However, now I can't use Software Center or sudo.
Gksu crashes. The only way to use root is now su. how I can reset the ownership of the folders and files in /usr? I want it to be back to normal. And for the record, I've got a backup which includes /usr. But I can't use it because it's too old. (I think it's from before Natty.) However the permissions are in order for that backup. (Rsync'd through BackInTime)

Added software from a PPA I use to get up to date programs, during the update empathy was deleted. I went back and deleted the new software causing the conflict but empathy still won't install. I see there are two versions, 3.1.1.1 and the ubuntu 11.04 2.3.4 I think. I want to install the natty version but whenever I try force version it gives me an error. Is the solution removing the ppa? or is there a work around like downgrading back to the original software?

I think the pc updated, or at least that is the only thing I can figure. Anyhow, pc froze so I reboot system. I have dual setup, after choosing Ubuntu, I receive GNU GRUB version 1.97~Beta 4 error. I am also told to press TAB for further commands, but none of the commands seem to do anything.

I'm attempting to compile the latest version of VLC from source. I'm able to run ./configure without any errors, however when I try to make I receive the following error. I don't want to install the program from the repositories because it's outdated and the tray icon doesn't blend in.
