Fedora X86/64bit :: Version 10 Won't Boot After Installing 4Gb Of System Memory
May 9, 2009
I have been using for over a year now, my 64-bit computer first with Fedora 8 and now with Fedora 10 with 2Gb of RAM just fine. Today I purchased an extra 2Gb for the system and upon installation from the GRUB screen Fedora 10 simply won't boot. It does boot with 3Gb, and it doesn't matter which stick I use for the 3Gb configuration, or what slot do I put the sticks into the motherboard, however if I place the four sticks, F10 simply won't boot. Should I pass a command line argument tot he kernel? If so, which?

I just upgraded my Dell e1505 Laptop from 2GB of memory to 4GB of memory. I upgraded because I was under the impression that x86 64-bit OS would be able to read that much memory.
Vista Ultimate 32-bit, reads 4GB installed, but only 3.2GB of physical memory. Which I understand, being a 32-bit OS.
Fedora 10 x86 64-bit though, also only sees 3.2GB
p.s. - Could it possibly be that I bought the wrong memory? The memory that came with my laptop was DDR2 PC2-5300, but when I search on Dell.com to purchase memory using my service tag, I get results for DDR2 PC2-6400 - which is what I bought. (Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
I also did searches on xxx.crucial.com and xxx.newegg.com and both stated DD2 PC2-5300.
The following is what my BIOS reads:
- Intel(R) Core (TM)2 Duo Processor 2.00 GHz
- Memory Installed: 4096 MB
- Memory Available: 3327 MB

So I decided to try something new and fresh. I wanted to try ubuntu. So I download the 64bit version from here. I made a 25GB partition. I then Wubi found out I didn't need the original file since it was downloading something else. I installed it, rebooted.
Windows comes up with a prompt:
Boot from:
Windows 7
Ubuntu
I click on Ubuntu. This comes up: [URL]. I am fairly new and I don't know what to do. I did research and nothing really showed. I then burned the said 64bit version and tried to do a Live CD but it didn't reboot into ubuntu. I really want to try ubuntu? I am going to re-install again.

I have the simple fortran codes as:
Code:
integer :: i1=2455121, i2=2455121
real :: s1=0.19123840, s2=0.20749992
real*8 :: a1, a2
a1=i1+s1; a2=i2+s2
[Code]....
When s1 and s2 are stated with 'real*8', the 64bit and 32bit systems get the same results.

I've got a problem with installing 64bit systems on Virtual Box. It is reporting that my 64 bit virtualization abilities (something like v-AMD or so) are present but not enabled. There is also an advice to enable it in the bios but I can't find anything like this actually. My motherboard is Asus M4A88TD-M EVO with quad-core AMD processor. IS there any trick to enable this feature somewhere in the system or it is a limitation of my hardware?

I just installed Fedora. I decided to duel boot and made sure to have it not touch my windows partition and install the bootloader. Now I can only boot into fedora which is lovely, but my windows is gone. Now I successfully mounted the ntfs partition windows was in, and the windows partition's fine and even the windows folder's still there but when I boot I only get the option for Fedora. Anyone knows how to fix it?

this is the off the shelf box from Dell and it is a quad-core with 24GB memory, but the OS can only recognize about 3GB, here is the free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 2980 607 2373 0 24 176
the system is otherwise functioning normal. how to get the full 24GB of mem recognized?

I have Fedora 11 installed on two different machines, one 32 bit and the other 64 bit. If I play an mp3 file in the 64 bit system---it doesn't seem to matter which player I use---then I can only start, stop, or go to the beginning or end of the selection. I can't advance the stream to some intermediate point. The slider display showing the position is greyed out. The same programs on the same file in the 32 bit system work normally and allow me to advance the position by using the mouse with the slider. This may have something to do with how gnome is configured on the two machines, but I can't figure out what is different.

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop on a system containing Windows XP and Slackware 12. This is my first experience with Ubuntu and Grub 2. During install, I requested "side by side" installation, and that seemed to proceed nicely until installation completed and I tried to boot On boot, all I see is:
[code]...
I've tried all the reinstall procedures at [URL]... to no avail. Once clue is that in the last chroot method, update-grub produces an error message: "Cannot find list of partitions!" I can see the partitions. Ubuntu can see them with fdisk, but Grub 2 can't? I'm about to eliminate the problem by using gravity to subject the computer to rapid deceleration from a 30 foot height.

I'm using Fedora 15 with Gnome 3 on a 32 bit laptop. I noticed that there seems to be a huge memory leak issue with Gnome shell. When I restart it, it is around 20 MB. But it keeps rising, and after around eight hours, I noticed it was around 250 MB! I found a solution online that said to simply restart the shell if the gnome-shell memory consumption becomes too large. While this is fine as a temporary solution, I am looking for a permanent one. Is there a way to minimize/prevent the memory leak other than waiting for the next version of Gnome 3?

I admit that I am a bit confused on how to proceed with this.I currently have an older version of Ubuntu (6 something) and windows vista and I have dual booting. I am trying to install 10.04 on top of the older Ubuntu and I want to keep the Windows partition. Last time I tried, I completely screwed up.I have multiple partitions now with a bunch of smaller ones that got created by mistake. I would like to re-size my partitions to have 1 main windows partition, 1 linux partition and 1 swap file partition. My HD is 160GB and I would ideally like to have the Ubuntu and Windows partitions roughly the same size.I included some screenshots of the install process and also a screenshot of my partitions.

My printer wont work on 64bit ubuntu, no drivers. Just for 32bit so I don't know all the technical stuff to get it to work if there was a way to, but anyways. I tried to run ubuntu 32bit and I have a lot of boot problems. Sometimes it will boot but most of the time it wont. I have to hard reboot every time 6 or 7 times just to get it to boot. I was wondering what could be the problem. For some reason I was thinking maybe it was my hard drive being to large (1.5 terabyte) its been a while since I've tried but I don't remember there being any error messages just a black screen. I've waited up to around 5 hours for one boot so I know I am giving it enough time. Is there a fix to make 32bit ubuntu use a large hard drive like that. I know there is one for the ram but I love ubuntu and would like to have a stable system and use my printer at the same time.

I have a laptop that doesn't display correctly since installing F10 x86-64. Instead of using the i810 driver, I see the experimental intel driver. I am running on a Dell D630 laptop with the default intel integrated graphics.
Just to note: Running gnome. I tried KDE and I can actually get this to work and display in 1600x1200. I don't want, "well use kde then" to be the solution. Also, in gnome, if I go to the screen resolution option from the menu, the mirron screens is clicked. Even when I detect monitors and unselect the mirror screens and pick the correct resolution, when I click OK, the screen flickers, and I go back to the same screen with the original default values? Wierd.
I got the bright idea to install system-config-display (something like that), which installed fine. I then changed my default resolution to 800x640 just to try it (really want 1600x1200). Well, I decided to reboot. Not the laptop doesn't start, it stops right after loading anaconda, and just won't go any further.
So two questions:
1. What do I need to change to get the laptop to actually boot?
2. How to get the external monitor to display in 1600x1200.
