Fedora X86/64bit :: Installing 12x86_64 In VMware Player 3.1.0?
Sep 30, 2010
When ever I am trying to install Fedora12x86_64 in VMware Player 3.1.0 I am having a strange error. Please see the attachment and reply. I am running Fedora12x86_64 in my laptop and VMplayer 3.1.0 is installed in it.
I'm installing in f13 the Adobe flash-player but I'm enabled to do it, what is the best procedure to do it, I have 64bit machine, I try with the nspluginwrapper but is occurring a compilation error: gnu/stubs-32.h: No such file or directory So what can I do to install adobe for 64bit machine.
Since installing Fedora 14, I have found that everytime I run Vmware player it goes through the compile sequence. It works fine after that. It should only compile if the kernel has changed. Anyone else with this problem? Any ideas what is wrong?
I have an HP Compaq nx6125 laptop, which has an AMD Turion 64 2200MHz processor, running Windows 7 Ultimate. I have installed the VMware Workstation 6.5.2 [full] trial and am attempting to install Fedora 11 on a virtual machine.
I understand that the Turion processor is a 64 bit processor, so I downloaded the Fedora 11 x86_64 DVD iso image.
First I have to create a VMware virtual machine (VM) and choose a version for it. If I choose a version that is any of the 64 bit options (for example, "Other Linux 2.6.x kernel 64-bit", since there are specific options for RHEL but not for Fedora), I get an error message the moment I try to power on the VM and start the install, saying "The buslogic SCSI adapter is not supported for 64-bit guests in this release [...]". Then the VM just shuts down.
I guess this laptop does have a SCSI bus, but my disks are IDE and as far as I can see (System Information) the SCSI bus is not used (?).
On the other hand, if the VM I create is any of the 32-bit option versions, I get what seems to be just a warning, saying that I'm running a 64-bit guest OS (Fedora 11) on a virtual machine configured to run a 32-bit OS, and suggesting I change this to ensure the 64-bit guest OS will function correctly. What would be the risks / downsides of forcing the install anyways?
I will also ask for help on the VMware side, too, and it's not my intention to turn this into a VMware discussion, but I'm just wondering if anybody on the forum has worked with this combination (VMware 6.5.2 and Fedora 11 running within it, preferrable on an HP Compaq 6125 running Windows 7 Ultimate) ? If so, I'd really appreciate some feedback / pointers.
I used to work a lot with Linux back in the days of RH5.2, and it's been a while, plus I'm new to the virtual machine world, so bear with me here.
I am running a vmware on a 64 bit fedora 9. I have already installed kernel header, but the vmware could not find the kernel header, and ask to input the kernel header path. I added /usr/include to the vmware, it complained not a right kernel header.
Code: #./VMware-Player-3.1.2-301548.i386.bundle It got installed successfully, but while running it said gcc not found. so i installed gcc by Code: #yum install gcc
The other day I installed VMware Player on the system when the Kernel was 2.6.38.8-32.fc15.x86_64. On running VMware player after installing the kernel-headers and gcc files the program ran fine (I did not try to install the VMware Tools). I also have not loaded the guess OS as yet.
toady I did and update in which the kernel was updated. I checked to ensure the Kernel-headers were also updated for the latest kernel.
After rebooting the machine the running kernel was then 2.6.40-4.fc15.x86_64. I then tried to start VMware Player. It indicated because the kernel was changed it needed to install new kernel modules, OK, It open the module screen and then crashed.
The log says it can not compile Vmmon which is the first module. it does not go any further.
Tried to installed a new copy of VMware Player over the old one but this only resulted in the same error messages.
I'm new to Fedora 14, vmware player. After getting Fedora up and running in VMware player. The disk size was 2.7 GB. After three hours of working with it, the disk size has bloated to 4.3 GB. I havent added software to account for the near doubling in size. How do I reduce the size back to 2.7GB range or lower. Im new to Fedora and superuser controls. Im removing more software than adding software. Is this a VMWARE problem or Fedora problem?
Running Fedora 12 64 bit version, when browsing the web get notifications that I need to install missing add in, flash player as it turns out. When I try to run either the install automatically or manually it fails when it is run though the installer, when I attempt to install manually I get popup notification that flash is already installed. Why OS thinks I still need to install it and how to correct this issue?
I don't know what's the problem but I've been trying to install fedora 12 on my windows 7 pc using vmware enterprise but I can't pass the installation, when I double-click the icon to install nothing happens, I've waited like 15 minutes and no window pops up, I don't know what to do.
[There are quite a few outdated guides relating to older versions of Fedora, so I figured that I'll write it up specifically for Fedora 12 to make life easier for others]
This guide is based on a fully patched Fedora 12 distribution as of Feb 5 2009.
A default install of Fedora 12 as a VMware Image (Guest) will generally fail to install VMware Tools for the following reasons (In the Fedora 12 Guest Image):
1. GCC and related packages are not installed
Make sure that 'yum list gcc*' has at least the following packages installed (these are not installed by default unless you select developer configuration).
2. Correct kernel-devel packages are not installed. This generally manifests itself via the following prompt: 'What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel?'
Fedora 12 installs kernel-PAE by default instead of the normal kernel rpm for the i386 distribution. Consequently, the header files required by vmware-config-tools.pl are found in 'kernel-PAE-devel' and not 'kernel-devel'.
The symlink /lib/modules/2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12.i686.PAE/source should work if the correct kernel-*-devel package is installed. vmware-config-tools.pl seems to only check this link to determine if it has found a legitimate kernel header directory.
I get the following error when I try to run vmware under opensuse 11.4 64bit:
Code: process 8923: Attempt to remove filter function 0x7fe2fd7a2980 user data 0x8a6c40, but no such filter has been added D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace The process, filter function and user data values change each time but the error happens every time.
I have followed the process suggested by Djarum123 in this thread: HTML Code: [URL] but to no avail. The error remains the same.
The VMware version is: VMware-Workstation-Full-7.1.4-385536.x86_64
Here is the machine info:
Code: > uname -a Linux lysander 2.6.37.6-0.5-default #1 SMP 2011-04-25 21:48:33 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I have googled a bit but cannot find references to this error.
I installed fedora 12 X86-64 and after installing wine throw yum it is not working it reach to registering binary handler for windows applications [ok] and it is blinking several times and nothing happened after that
I have a laptop that doesn't display correctly since installing F10 x86-64. Instead of using the i810 driver, I see the experimental intel driver. I am running on a Dell D630 laptop with the default intel integrated graphics.
Just to note: Running gnome. I tried KDE and I can actually get this to work and display in 1600x1200. I don't want, "well use kde then" to be the solution. Also, in gnome, if I go to the screen resolution option from the menu, the mirron screens is clicked. Even when I detect monitors and unselect the mirror screens and pick the correct resolution, when I click OK, the screen flickers, and I go back to the same screen with the original default values? Wierd.
I got the bright idea to install system-config-display (something like that), which installed fine. I then changed my default resolution to 800x640 just to try it (really want 1600x1200). Well, I decided to reboot. Not the laptop doesn't start, it stops right after loading anaconda, and just won't go any further.
So two questions:
1. What do I need to change to get the laptop to actually boot?
2. How to get the external monitor to display in 1600x1200.
I am pretty new to linux, I was trying to install vnc enterprise edition (x64) but was getting the following error message:

I have a 64 bit version of fedora 13. I've been trying to install adobe flash and I've tried a couple of different guides and none of them worked for me can anyone give me better instructions?
I'm new to Fedora and the Red Hat way of doing things, having been a Ubuntu/Mint user for the last 5-6 years. I've been using Fedora for my daily computer now for the last 3-4 months - a change that has definitely been for the better! However, earlier this morning I went to install a .rpm, and yum output via terminal the following error:
Code: [leeky@darkstar ~]$ sudo yum install opera [sudo] password for leeky: Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit Adding en_US to language list Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile * fedora: mirror.netrino.co.uk * rpmfusion-free: mirror01.th.ifl.net * rpmfusion-free-updates: mirror01.th.ifl.net * rpmfusion-nonfree: mirror01.th.ifl.net * rpmfusion-nonfree-updates: mirror01.th.ifl.net * updates: mirror.netrino.co.uk Error: database disk image is malformed [leeky@darkstar ~]$
This is the first time I have received this error. I've now tried the following methods of resolving this problem with no luck:
1. Code: yum clean all 2. Code: yum clean metadata yum clean dbcache yum makecache 3. Physically removing the /var/libs/yum folder, and creating a new "yum" folder, and then step two above to rebuild it. Either way the problem then still returns in terminal.
I've just installed FC 13 and trying to get Real Player installed. After downloading it from Real installing it gives this error
rpm -ivh RealPlayer11GOLD.rpm Preparing... ########################################### [100%] 1:realplay ########################################### [100%] postinst called with unknown argument `2' warning: %post(realplay-11.0.2.1744-1.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 1
Then it thinks it's installed because it doesn't install again have to force it the second time. Can't remove it though because that doesn't think it's there.
I just loaded openSUSE 11.2 64bit and can't get VMware server to install. I had it working just fine in 11.1. I installed: kernel-source, make, gcc, gcc-c++, downloaded VMware server RPM installed with Yast. opened a console went root and ran: /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl. Make aborts with the following few lines:
Prior to this had a whole rift of Warning Such as:
Unable to build the vmmon module.
In the past I followed instructions I down loaded for "swerdna" and it worked well.
I have installed (twice) slackware 13.37 64 bit on a virtual machine (vmware workstation 7). But when i try to startx the kde window starts to load and the harddrive on the kde startscreen shows and then it crashes. Anybody that running slackware 13.37 on a virtual machine?
