View 1 RepliesI've read some past issues with this and was wondering if anyone else has issues with F12 / F13.
When I logout of gnome or kde on a fresh install of Fedora 13 the panels disapear but I never receive the log on window. I cannot switch to command either the screen is locked completely.
I havn't run updates or anything, the install is nearly out of box except for the installation of kde.. The issue existed before I installed kde, I was hoping it didn't have this issue lol. fat chance of that..
Anyone aware of any fix's? Or what the issue is?
Soon after I installed synergy and set up conky and devilspie, I started having problems with the machine loging out automatically.
As soon as I turn the computer on, it auto-logs in, and when I press enter (it seems it works for anything) the machine logs out. After logging back in it's fine however.
/var/log/syslog output:
Code:
(Of course there was log more output, but this is the only thing that seems related. Everything else is about "named" and "dnsmasq")

View 1 Replies View RelatedAs a normal user I have activated the functions of the Quit applet, i.e. Logout, Shutdown and Restart are active buttons. I am able to restart or shutdown, no problems. But when I use the Logout button I don't get logged out, just returned to the login shell & I am still logged in as my user. I don't have a display manager installed and I do NOT want to use a display manager such as XDM or GDM. How do I get the Logout button to actually logout the user? It appears I am only getting logged out of the x-session, but I want complete logout.

P.S. I'm a developer willing to put my time where my mouth is and change this.
When I click logout under the user menu (top right), the confirmation dialogue appears, and I can click Logout. the dialogue disappears and it starts to logout normally... then it just stops. it freezes once the top toolbar disappears. my tint2 bar stays visable, as well as my desktop background, and i can move my cursor around, but it wont respond to my keyboard. After just letting it stay like that for a few minutes, nothing changes, it doesn't even dim the screen or go to sleep, it just sits there.
I can shutdown and switch users just fine, just not logout.
I didn't notice any relevant complaints regarding 11.2 in the archives. The bootup & shutdow may be different problems. Randomly my recent install boots up fine or hangs with a blank black screen. A Ctl Alt F2 gets me to a prompt. Startx returns a lockfile comment that X is already running.
From here I can shut 11.2 down and restart it OK. There must be a bootlog kept in /var somewhere. I haven't tried the non-automatic bootup. The shutdown randomly drops back to the logout screen. Usually a shutdown command from there will shut it down. Sometimes shutdown doesn't work, but restart will finish the shutdown.
I like my bottom panel to auto hide. I have this setup on 2 computers. On one computer, it's much faster with hiding/showing than the other computer.Could it be a performance thing that effects it? mean, the one that's quicker is a quad core with 4gb of ram, whereas the one that's slower is a pentium 4 with 1gb of ram.

I saw another thread about unexpected logout while browsing, its not the same although it happens to me so far while using firefox / mplayer / Kontact (kmail) .
tow simply looking problems, but I don't know how to do it1. Run a script as root after a users login. (not on startup)2. Run a script as root when the user logout.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just installed F13 on my netbook (Toshiba NB205). Whenever the screensaver locks the screen (manually or due to a timeout), the unlocking of the screensaver causes my account to logout and I'm left at the GDM login screen. I've been seeing that the "work around" is to turn off the screensaver lock.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi performed an upgrade from fedora 13 to 14 on my test fedora virtual machine (vmware player 3) and i have this incredible problem: I normally boot in runlevel 3 and i start X only when needed with the startx command. When I want to exit from the X environment I use the "log out <username>" command on the System menu (gnome is the desktop manager). After upgrading to fedora 14 and applying all the available upgrade, this won't work anymore! I'm able to start the X environment but when I try to logout the window/desktop manager got killed but X remain active, the background image is visible on the screen, no mouse or keyboard interaction is possible.
The system is stiil alive, i can login through ssh, but i was not able to do anything. manually switching the runlevel from 3 to 5 and viceversa with telinit doesn't solve the situation: switching to runlevel 5 cause the login screen to be visualized and i' can login in the gnome desktop environment but when i logout o when a try to switch to runlevel 3 I always obtain the same result: X remain active and unusable, it's impossible to go back to a text console. what can i do ? any of you has experienced a similar issue ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to get compiz to auto-start. What seems to be the generally accepted method (from what a few google searches and the debian wiki tell me) of using gconf-editor and changing the window manager from 'gnome-wm' to 'compiz' in desktop > gnome > session > required_components doesn't change anything. The only method I found that did not involve using a terminal and running 'compiz --replace' every time I boot the computer was to add compiz and fusion-icon to the gnome startup apps, but this causes unwanted flickering (it starts metacity and then replaces it with compiz, ie it's simply automating what I would do with the terminal). Autostarting the fusion-icon alone does not start compiz, although it allows me to start it from it's menu if I right click the icon. Note that I sometimes use fluxbox as well, so starting it on boot isn't really an option either.
Perhaps this can be useful :
compiz:
Installed: 0.8.4-4
Candidate: 0.8.4-4
gnome-session:
Installed: 2.30.2-3
Candidate: 2.30.2-3
So I just completed a clean install of Fedora 11 from the live CD. The only thing I've done to it thus far was to run the update manager once. Next item on the agenda was to configure my display to correctly handle my two monitors, but if I open up the controls and select 'Display' both my monitors instantly go blank. The only way to restore them is to use ctr-alt-backspace to logout. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon x800L, and right now I'm using the default ati driver that came with the system.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason in the last few days I can no longer logout of KDE, nor will it let me shutdown the system. The only way out is to Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and then shutdown from there. Weird thing is other users can. For me the logout box just disappears and I carry on working or if effects are enabled, the screen blurs and I carry on working. After this the logout box doesn't come back up until I have restarted X (logged out).
I have tried disabling the desktop effects to no availe and I have looked in the messages / kdm logs. So far the only thing I can find is in KDM.log
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Internal error: Could not resolve keysym XF86TouchpadOn
> Internal error: Could not resolve keysym XF86TouchpadOff
I have no idea if this is at all relevant but there are several threads from Google relating to this and GDM, although no cures as far as I can tell.
I would rather not delete my ~/.kde folder again if at all possible as it takes ages to reset everything back to normal.
Currently when I connect a card reader (with a card inside, of course) gnome auto-starts gphoto. However I don't use gphoto and I would like gnome to auto-start nautilus instead

On command line I can do the following perfectly:
Code:
which results
Code:
All files permission on the drive is 777. I can read, I can write, do whatever I want.
But in GNOME Desktop environment, when the USB drive is plugged-in, the partition is auto-mounted with other options:

All files permission on the drive is now 555. I can't write to it anymore. I saw a post earlier having similar mount result, but this one is USB drive though.
So how to configure GDE mount automatically with my intended mount options?
When I try to logout, it tells that you "will be automaticallyed out after 60 seconds"..and there are two buttons there. one is to "cancel", one is to "logout". Even if I press the logout button, it will logout after only a minute. My question is that how to logout instantaneously (without waiting for 60 seconds). The same problem happens when i try to poweroff or restart the computer. It will do it only after 60 seconds. Who in the world would like a machine which does things according to its wish, rather than execute your command?
View 10 Replies View RelatedRecently I've been having an issue where every now and then, all of a sudden fedora logs me out and takes me to the login screen.
All my unsaved work is lost and I have to log back in again.
Is there any way to diagnose this problem and figure out how to solve it?
I've installed F13 on a DELL computer. Everything works fine except that under KDE menu if I click on 'shutdown', I have the confirmation windows but the computer never shutdown. Same issue with the the logout button. If I want to stop my commuter I have to open a terminal and type " shutdown now" or "halt".
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have searched for a solution to this issue (it's difficult to come up with a minimum number of search terms) and have found at least one person reporting it, but the solution is "check the xorg logfile" - which is entirely too vague, since I don't know what I'm looking for in the file. Here's the issue: The screensaver and/or power management appears to initiate a logout when I try to awaken the computer, whether the screensaver is still functioning or the screen has been turned off. Wither way, I jiggle the mouse, and it appears there is a crash (black screen with spinning mouse circle) resulting in a new login screen, which is entirely disruptive if I have software running, such as recording an audio stream with Audacity.
I'm using KDE with an OpenGL screensaver (antinspect) set to engage after 10 minutes. As for power settings, I am "letting powerdevil manage screen power saving." On the screen tab I have checked "Dim display when idle for more than [10] minutes." I have enabled display power management - standby after 20 minutes and power off after 30 minutes. (There are way too many options under KDE now, and I don't find an explanation of what the various "Profile Management" options do and what the tabs for "Actions" and "CPU and System" do differently from the "Screen" tab. I have an ATI 4650 video adapter. I'm not using a proprietary driver, since I've not been able to determine that there is one that will work with Fedora 14 (or any other Fedora, for that matter). The machine is a recent AMD (dual core 6000+) with 4Gb of memory.
