View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to disable the built-in card reader in my MBP (5,3) running Debian testing. I've noticed that powertop lists the card reader as a major contributor of wake up events and would like to disable it as I rarely need to read SD cards.
I found this with "dmesg":

I don't know where to find the device in /proc and there are no modules loaded for this device (I'm guessing it has support compiled into the kernel).
So, ideally, I would like to be able to enable/disable this device without a kernel recompile. Is this possible?

I've recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad z470, and installed Debian Wheezy amd64 on it first thing. I was pleased to find that almost everything worked "out of the box." The only problems were the hotkeys and the card reader. I don't care if the hotkeys ever work, but the non-working card reader is more aggravating than I anticipated. View 4 Replies View RelatedI am very new to Linux. I installed ubuntu 9.10 on my Acer 3050 aspire. It works very well except for a few issues. I can not use my 5 in 1 card reader, nothing shows up in "computer" except "cd/dvd" and "file system". My lg phone does not show up when using my data cable as mass storage, and the touch pad is too sensitive, (i have adjusted the settings listed under mouse/touchpad but to no avail. The biggest problems is the card reader and phone. Can this be fixed?

everything installed correctly in the "opt/adobe" directory. But after installation when I tried to open a pdf document using adobe reader it doesn't respond anything. Even when I tried to open it through the kernel I got the error message as follows...

I just did a fresh install of Squeeze with a KDE desktop on my computer. I use this computer to run an instrument in my lab. The instrument is connected to my computer through an ethernet card. Since my reinstall I cannot figure out how to get my computer and instrument communicating again. I'm guessing that I need to somehow tell my computer to connect to the device, but I don't know how. I think my instrument is connected to eth2, which does not show any inet addr or Bcast ip, so I'm guessing that is a problem. How do I fix this?

After uninstalling nvidia non-free drivers, I'm now able to boot with nouveau.
Any way for having non-free drivers working again?
I'm using Debian Squeeze amd64. I have a disk with 4 partitions (Debian, Windows7, Data and Swap). What seems to be the generally accepted method (from what a few google searches and the debian wiki tell me) of using gconf-editor and changing the window manager from 'gnome-wm' to 'compiz' in desktop > gnome > session > required_components doesn't change anything. The only method I found that did not involve using a terminal and running 'compiz --replace' every time I boot the computer was to add compiz and fusion-icon to the gnome startup apps, but this causes unwanted flickering (it starts metacity and then replaces it with compiz, ie it's simply automating what I would do with the terminal). Autostarting the fusion-icon alone does not start compiz, although it allows me to start it from it's menu if I right click the icon. Note that I sometimes use fluxbox as well, so starting it on boot isn't really an option either.

Thought it might be fusermount, but no.Gnome-mount is not installed. Perhaps it is via AL or udev, but what commands control it? I've found posts that talk about using gnome-mount, but these are outdated as this package isn't even installed by default anymore.I would like to unmount certain volumes via the command line, but without having root privileges as gnome is doing by clicking in nautilus. I would like to do the equivalent from the command line.
Are there any command lines commands that will allow me to do this (not talking about pmount which is not installed)?Also, is there a way to prevent automounting of just certain devices, but not all? I have a USB with 7 different things on it (a "built-in" CD for some reason for windoz users, the original NTFS, and 5 linux partitions). I really only want one of the linux partitions (an XFS for DVD isos) to automount but not all the others. I would like not to have to disable ALL automounting as in:

My girlfriends laptop (Acer Aspire 5536) has an internal memory card slot, however Ubuntu doesn't seem to be recognising it.

My PC is an Intel Core-i7-950 with 8GB RAM. The motherboard is an Intel Extreme, DX580G. Ubuntu (64) 10.10 is the only OS run on this system, and uses the entire hard-disk.
Today, I purchased an internal USB card reader that connects to the USB socket on the motherboard. Once I connected it, the PC started hanging on boot. When it hangs, there is nothing but a non-blinking, still cursor on the top left corner of the screen.
Earlier I had set the Grub2 boot delay to '0', and therefore I guess I do not get to see any messages or the Grub2 menu.
The story is the same with an external USB card-reader. If I connect the external card-reader and try to boot, the PC hangs in the manner described above.
If I disconnect the internal / external USB card-reader, everything is normal.
The following web-page describes the problem in the manner I can understand. But it does not provide a permanent solution.
