Whenever i try to login to the terminal (ctrl + alt + F2-F6), it will say "permission denied", clear the screen and start over, i even tried to login with root

It did not work before i upgraded to 12 from 11.
Why when I want to install some thing on my ubuntu 10.10 from terminal or user any other commands I have this output:

I have Ubuntu10.10 in my HP-laptop. I am trying to install ANSYS. There is an install file in setup. When I try to give install in terminal, being in the same directory it says, command not found. I tried ./INSTALL, it says "bash: ./INSTALL: Permission denied". I also tried from my home folder with full path for the install file, as the readme file says, "To install, enter the full path to the installation program on the media or to the downloaded installation files". I don't know what to do. I have these setup file in my external hard drive.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working currently on my server on an issue, I configured the SSH Deamon that only people who have a valid ssh-key can login on to the server, and kicked the password option. Now I've added a user account git. I navigate to his home folder created the folder ".ssh" and created in that folder the file "authorized_keys" I copied my public key in there. Now on my local machine I added that identity (via ssh-add) and I wanted to connect to my server. but when I'm trying to login myself I can't the only message I get is "Permission denied (publickey)."

I had some hassle with the last two iptables lines but once I took away RH-Firewall-1 from those lines iptables gave no error anymore.

I have two computers. One runs unRaid NAS software which is built on Linux. The other is running XBMC media center which is built on Ubuntu. XBMC has a local folder (/home/kevin/.xbmc/userdata/Thumbnails/) that it stores thumbnails in. I am essentially trying to move this folder to my server, but XBMC needs to see it as local. I started by deleting the old Thumbnails folder and it's contents. I then created an empty Thumbnails folder on XBMC and I also created one on my unRaid comp (192.168.1.20/disk7/xbmc_thumbs/Thumbnails). On the XBMC comp I run:

mount -t cifs //192.168.1.20/disk7/xbmc_thumbs/Thumbnails Thumbnails
It creates the mount and as long as I'm logged in as root, I can copy files to the XBMC Thumbnails folder and they appear on my unRaid server's Thumbnails folder. The problem is that if I log in as kevin (the user that XBMC runs as) I get permission denied errors. I've tried changing ownership of the XBMC Thumbnails folder to kevin via:

chown -v kevin Thumbnails
And it says it changed it, but if I check, the ownership and group both still show as root. I'm thinking that may be because now that the mount is made, it's showing the ownership of the Thumbnails folder on the unRaid server? Whatever it's doing I can't seem to change it and XBMC can't write it's thumbnails because of this.

My problem is that when I try to ssh from my desktop PC terminal into the server with ssh shack1@192.168.1.80, I get in return, shack1@192.168.1.80's password: I type in the password and I then get, Permission denied, please try again. I am putting in the correct password and am stumped......Please excuse my ignorance in this I have been using Ubuntu Desktop for 2-3 years and have been doing decent and am trying to venture out a bit.

Everything went pretty smoothly and I managed to fix most issues that was caused due to the switch.
But each time I open terminal, the following error shows up:

View 1 Replies View Related-xmms does support the "Expensive Hi Fi", wich as i told i've allreday installed and works.
-Xmms doesn't support the "Analog Vu Meter Plugin" for that skin, wich i don't know were to download(i only am able to see the images of it at [url]?content=49220"-3rd picture bellow, left side-the "Sony Vu's").
-The http page refers the skins and the plugin to KDE graphic environment, i'm using GNOME, and i'm not shure that this may make any difference.
-After the exausting net reading, i think...?, that Audacious does support the "Expensive Hi Fi" and the "Analog Vu Meter Plugin".
As i told, i don't give up that easy, and Audacious seems to be some upgrade or evolution of Xmms, and it as that "retro classic" look that i like and can be personalized like Xmms.
So, i've allready installed Audacios, with all the necessary codecs and libraries, and it's working so well as Xmms worked.
But know i'm having another problem :
-To personalize skins in Audacious(...more exausting net reading...), the operation should be so easy as:

View 4 Replies View RelatedI run a small home network with a wireless network using Apple airport wireless router. I have two macs and one Linux box (Fedora 13). Everything worked until about a week ago. Now the two macs can communicate with each other, and one of the macs can communicate with the Linux box, but the other can't, which is a bummer because it is a print server.
Pinging from the mac to the linux box gives the error message:
ping: sendto permission denied
Ping from the Linux box to the mac just hangs:

Firewalls on both boxes have been disabled. The Mac was running Little Snitch, but it has been uninstalled.
I have looked for messages from /var/log/message using tail -f and there are none when I ping either way.

I had Fedora 8 installed in few clients and a server (same server for NFS and NIS), and NIS and NFS configured, and was working fine. Yesterday, I upgraded few client computers to Fedora 15 (server is still same), and configured NFS and NIS client. NFS is working fine, I can see home directories.

"cannot read /etc/shadow: Permission denied"
which kept me from doing anything until I switched to file permissions of 400 on shadow, then back. Is this being experienced by anyone else or just me? /etc/security/limits.conf doesn't seem like it wants to change in enforcing mode either and I can't find any alerts to provide clues on the situation.
I have a cron backup scheme in which I rsync, then tar, then copy files on my internal hard drives to an external (USB) drive. When it works, it works. But I often get a "Permission Denied" message for all of these tasks. how the external drive is auto-mounted so I edited the etc/fstab so that the owner of the cron job is also the owner of the external drive (I think. Unfortunately, I'm not at that machine right now (it's at work), I can't give the exact fstab line (I will post it as an update to this thread next time I am at the machine).) BUT, I still get times when the cron backup runs fine and other times I get the Permission Denied. This is a shared machine that is dual-booted, so what I *think* is going on is that when the machine is rebooted to Fedora, but nobody logs in, I get a Permission Denied for the cron backup. It seems like on days when someone has logged in as the main user and left without logging out that the cron backup runs fine.

Are you member of 'wireshark' group? Try running 'usermod -a -G wireshark <username>' as root.
I ran the usermod command to add my account in the group and checked it
