Ubuntu :: ANSYS Installation In Terminal - Permission Denied

I have Ubuntu10.10 in my HP-laptop. I am trying to install ANSYS. There is an install file in setup. When I try to give install in terminal, being in the same directory it says, command not found. I tried ./INSTALL, it says "bash: ./INSTALL: Permission denied". I also tried from my home folder with full path for the install file, as the readme file says, "To install, enter the full path to the installation program on the media or to the downloaded installation files". I don't know what to do. I have these setup file in my external hard drive.
Why when I want to install some thing on my ubuntu 10.10 from terminal or user any other commands I have this output: Permission denied This one I want to install make-3.82. I extract files and open install file (a text guide file) in this guide I see this

And output is this: bash: ./configure: Permission denied When I want to make any softwares I have the same problem? I have to give terminal any permission or something? I want to do any action to don't see this .... message again.
I recently switched from Ubuntu Maverick 32-bit to 64-bit so I could compile Android's latest revision, Gingerbread.
Everything went pretty smoothly and I managed to fix most issues that was caused due to the switch.
But each time I open terminal, the following error shows up:

I've tried manually creating that directory as root but the error remains.
I am trying to ssh into my server that I do have ssh installed on and have followed instructions carefully on ssh_config. My problem is that when I try to ssh from my desktop PC terminal into the server with ssh shack1@192.168.1.80, I get in return, shack1@192.168.1.80's password: I type in the password and I then get, Permission denied, please try again. I am putting in the correct password and am stumped......Please excuse my ignorance in this I have been using Ubuntu Desktop for 2-3 years and have been doing decent and am trying to venture out a bit.
Whenever i try to login to the terminal (ctrl + alt + F2-F6), it will say "permission denied", clear the screen and start over, i even tried to login with root

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 on my Windows Vista Home Premium machine. I'm trying to install Amanda 3.2 on Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) using Ubuntu 10.04 deb package. The installation was successful using the dpkg command. The problem crops up when configuring such amanda. When creating a user amandabackup using passwd amandabackup and then enter in it through su - amandabackup a permission denied problem comes up. When enter amserverconfig Dailyset 1 etc etc the server response with : amservingconfig: critical (fatal): Cannot create debug file "/var/log/amanda/server/amserverconfig.2010120307947.debug": Permission denied and continues The permissions are set to rw 1 amandabackup backup. I can't understand why it's telling me permission denied each time.
I cant install Ubuntu 11.04 , on my Emachines laptop. On my Windows 7, When I boot up my USB/CD/card, it says: Ubuntu failed to mount dev/loop0 , something like that everytime, no matter what I do. And when I try wubi it says permission denied, .log filed saved. I've also mounted it using clonedrive, nothing works.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu on an Aspire laptop with Windows XP. I downloaded 10.04 and burned an ISO image. I boot Windows and open the ISO disk. The above is the error message I get when I try to create an usb-flash boot drive. I downloaded the iso for Mint10 and use the "create startup disk" program to create the boot drive. I have 3rd party software that I need to install. It is called VNMRJ. It is packed as one .tar. I extracted the .tar to the desktop (under root) and want to start the installation. However, during the installation process, all .tar files included the the package (sub directories) can't be extracted by the installation routine. For every .tar I get the error

I installed MATLAB R2009a in my laptop (Fedora 14 x86-64), the installation was succesful but when I run MATLAB (in a console), appears a message: error while loading shared libraries: libut.so: cannot enable executable stack as shared object requires: Permission denied
I find a "solution", execute in a terminal: execstack -c libut.so
I used several times with differents libraries that I needed, but I run MATLAB in a terminal, MATLAB starts in a terminal, only a prompt ">>" and nothing.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu on Windows XP as a dual boot using Wubi, but whenever I try to install it I get an error message that says: An error occurred: Permission denied For more information, please see the log file: c:docume-1lanzarolocals-1 empwubi-10.04.1-rev190.log Does anyone know what this means and if I can fix it?
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 as a dual boot on my laptop next to Win 7. I installed using all defaults, as I am pretty much a novice user. I also put 10.04 on my desktop at home, but did not install. I am running that machine ON the Win 7 partition. My problem is that on my desktop, I get a boot option of Windows or Ubuntu from the MBR, and Windows is the default. If I choose Ubuntu, I then get the Grub menu which defaults to Ubuntu (fine, I already chose that).
On my laptop (where I did the full install on its own partition) Grub takes over, which would be fine but for Ubuntu being the default. I really want the default to be Win 7. I have read several posts, and a tutorial on changing the boot order in Grub, but when I try to access the file mentioned (etc/default/grub) I get an error "Permission Denied". I have made myself Administrator, so I should have access to everything. I know I need to change the line GRUB_DEFAULT=0 to GRUB_DEFAULT=6 to make this work, but I cannot open the file. Is there an easier way of doing this? Honestly, if you want novice users to try out Ubuntu, sending them to command line is NOT the way. The great majority of people that might be willing to try Ubuntu will run for the hills at the simple suggestion of command line. Most everything else you do is handled by an app, why not this?
A few days ago I tried to install a driver for a Brother printer (HL-5040) in terminal mode by issuing "sudo dpkg -i --force-all hl5040lpr-1.1.2-1.i386.deb" on my Ubuntu 9.10 PC.
During the process several error messages were displayed. All of them say "permission denied" to access a directory /etc/init.d/lpd. Consequently, the installation failed and Synaptic package manager does not work any more and becomes broken.
Questions: Why did I get "permission denied" as a su? How can I get around the problem so I can re-install the driver?
I have a problem when i installed ubuntu via usb drive and cd.. and i try it in windows xp and windows 7. it's a same problem .. but this is the error message " permission denied "
I just downloaded OpenOffice 3.2.1 from the openoffice.org weebsite. I followed the instructions precisely and everytime ended up in the same error message - 'error: can't create transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/.rpm.lock (Permission denied)'. I am using Fedora 13.
I'm running PCLinuxOS with no other OS installed. Thought I'd have a go at chainloading. just for interests sake.So, I opened Konsole, entered su and entered my root password. The command line turned red so, I imagined all was well. But when I then keyed in '/boot/grub/.menu.lst' I was refused access.
I'm new to Linux, so I decided to try using Wubi to get started. THe problem is, when it finished installing 10.04, I got this message: OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'C:\ubuntu\install\ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso' Is there any way around this? It might just be that overly restrictive thing called Vista (which I have the bad luck to be using). I was considering getting a USB drive for Ubuntu anyway..

I have just installed 9.10 netbook remix onto my Eeepc 901. I was previously using 9.4 Rather than clicking on shutdown icons, or going through shutdown menus, I added a keyboard shortcut to run a shell script containing the following code:
Code: #!/bin/bash init 0 because init needs to be run as root to have the correct permissions, I set the owner and group to be root , ran chmod 711, then chmod u+s to prevent anyone altering the script, and to allow anyone to execute it with root privelidges Since updateing to 9.10 netbook remix, I have been unable to get this to work. have applied the above changes but get a "/bin/bash: /usr/bin/shutdownscript: permission denied" error when I try to run my shutdown script from the terminal (nothing happens when I press the key combination asigned to the keyboard shortcut). If I run the shutdown script with sudo then it neatly shuts down. ls reveals the following permissions:-rws--s--x 1 root root
So it appears as if SUID and SGID are both set, and the owner/group are correct, and the script works, and yet it doesn't have the permissions to work. I installed 9.4 long ago enough that I can't remember if I had to do anything else to get it working, or has something changed between 9.4 and 9.10?
