Fedora :: Oracle 10g On Fedora 10 - Wine Cant 'emulate' Everything
Feb 16, 2010
I was wondering if i could get an oracle 10g version that is guaranteed to work for fedora 10.I know they have downloads for linux and possibly fedora 4 but will they workon fedora 10.I thought about using wine to run the windows version of the installer but it seems wine cant 'emulate' everything. If the above stated courses of action are not possible, what 'easy to learn' software could i use to create a database on fedora 10.

I run Ubuntu with two screens. When I'm playing a Windows game through WINE, I enable "Emulate a virtual desktop" for that game and set the desktop size to that of one monitor. With this setup, I can Alt-Tab and switch between Compiz desktops while still running the game in full screen. However, I also play some native games (Sauerbraten and Tremulous in particular). To play them full screen, I have to disable one monitor, as it's hard to hit your target when they're split across two monitors. I also cannot reliably use Alt-Tab and desktop switching when a native game is in full screen mode. Is there an program that can "wrap" full screen native applications in a window of a set size like WINE's virtual desktop does for Windows applications?

I have installed oracle-xe-univ-10.2.0.1-1.0.i386.rpm in my system but im unable to open the database home page please suggest me to how to rectify the problem. Im using fedora15 32 bit OS with gnome, i have installed it by just right clicking the file and selecting the option "open with software installer" then it automatically installed the software and i can see the icons of oracle in applications but when i tried open the "go to database home page icon" the home page is not displaying in the browser and displaying the following message "Unable to connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at xxx.x.x.x:xxxx. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

I am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.

I was notified by the updater that VirtualBox-3.2-3.2.10_66523_fedora12-1 (x86_64) was available to install. So I clicked [Install Update] and got the following Transaction error:The GPG keys listed for the "Fedora 12 - x86_64 - VirtualBox" repository are already installed but they are not correct for this package.Check that the correct key URLs are configured for this repository.

I am trying to install guest additions on Oracle Enterprise Linux Update 5. Whenever I try to the run VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run script I get the following problem:
erifying archive integrity. All good. Uncompressing VirtualBox 2.0.0 Guest Additions for Linux installation. VirtualBox 3.0.6 Guest Additions installation install the build and header files for your current Linux kernel. The current kernel version is 2.6.18-164.el5PAE Problems were found which would prevent the Guest Additions from installing. correct these problems and try again. I also tried yum install using the following commands without any luck:
yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers-`uname -r`
Following are the package information of my kernel-devel and headers:
> rpm -q kernel-devel
kernel-devel-2.6.18-164.el5
> rpm -q kernel-headers
kernel-headers-2.6.18-164.el5
I have been spending a couple of hours already on how to fix this but I still couldnt get to install this.

I've AMD64 system with Ubuntu 11.04 installed. It's been rough ride for me to install oracle-xe-universal. I've already spent more than 2 days on this. Still unsuccessful.
1) First I downloaded the packages libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb and oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
2) Then I ran
sudo apt-get install bc (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
(gave me dependency error for libc6 (>= 2.3.2), I modified the control file to remove dependency and rebuilt the package) (now worked fine) Oracle xe is now installed. Then I tried to start the DB it started but it's HTTP client never started. So I decided to uninstall the oracle-xe=universal. None of the sudo apt-get remove oracle-xe-universal command's didn't worked for me. So i went for manual uninstallation directions as per oracle link.
I ran the following command-
--Manually uninstalling Oracle 10g--
sudo rm -rf /usr/lib/oracle /etc/oratab /etc/init.d/oracle-xe /etc/sysconfig/oracle-xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe_client
Then I again ran the following command to install oracle-xe
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
See below what I got as the output-
rocky@ubuntu:~/git/mygit/edas2/libaio$ sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
dpkg: warning: overriding problem because --force enabled:
package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)
[code]....
Even in applications menu I don't see the if oracle has been installed. So i conclude first time installation was ok but somehow http client didn't worked. After manual uninstallation, second installation didn't even loaded/installed the oracle-xe in init.d directory.
