Fedora :: WINE Stopped Running Quicken?
Jan 14, 2011When I opened Quicken this morning I saw that WINE did some kind of update; now Quicken cannot open files. The program seems to start normally but when I try to open a file it locks up. I see that Freecell runs normally but of course it doesn't access any data files.

Jun 24, 2011I have a problem running a game on a fresh Slackware64 install.
Slack version is 13.37
I've followed alien bobs instructions for a multilib environment from here:[url]
And then used sbopkg to download and compile wine version 1.2.2, which went through just fine.
After that I grabbed cabextract from sbopkg and ran this: wget [url] sh winetricks d3dx9 To get the DX9.
But, when I try to run the game, this is the error I get:

The game it self ran perfectly on the 32 bit version of Slackware, tested with 13.0. So now I think I'm missing some libs or something, but I have no clue which.
Fedora :: Remove Wine And Wine Installed Program?
Nov 19, 2010I am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.

Jul 19, 2009After "yum install emacs" & "yum install emacs-ess", I was able to install emacs on my X86_64 running Fedora 10.
If I run one session of emacs everything works fine.
Once I start a second session and try to resize or move the emacs window, the system stops responding.

Jun 8, 2010I am noticing problems accessing the firewall gui and mounting the second hard drive in my PC running Fedora 13. This is only when I am accessing the machine with VNC. If I am sitting in front of the physical machine, I have no problems at all. I would like VNC to behave more like I am sitting in front of the computer. Is there a way to do this? Aug 3, 2009Background is this: Laptop has an internal h/d (obviously) so I removed it from laptop. Then set Bios to boot from external h/d. Installed Fedora 11 on ext. h/d no swap partition as drive already has 4 partitions. Fedora ran lovely!! I then replaced internal hard drive but left bios to boot from external hard drive. Boot screen for fedora came up, hit enter and fedora started loading. The little balloon started filling up, got to a quarter full and then screen went black. Had to reboot to get going again,same thing happened. Can anybody tell me what may be causing it,i.e. black screen. Fedora boots up and runs lovely with internal h/d removed. Any help very gratefully received. M/c has intel dual core processor, 3 gig of ram.

It generally happens when I hit the mouse scroll wheel or when I move a window around very quickly. After that the left mouse button would stop working...
Anyway I found an easy workaround which I thought I'd share.Just hit 'enter unity' on the VMWare player menu. Then you can immediately exit unity again. This somehow resets the mouse into its normal state...
Ubuntu :: Running Wine 1.1.31 On 10.04?
May 19, 2010I have installed the repositories of wine but I cant 'force' install the 1.1.31 version. The current wine version sucks big time and none of the games I play work well, hell wine 1.1.41 (or whatever crap the latest version is called) has now caused some serious graphics issues for me. I am having to align my desktop every single time I boot, which is well. Any solutions regarding installing wine 1.1.31 on 10.04?

But there are also some that wine users claim to have made run by changing some specific configuration of wine, using some trick or even creating scripts on playonlinux.
So if I try to run an app on wine and it doesn't and I don't find any user documentation about some specific trick or config for that app what adjustments can I do to try to make it run? I mean, it's tiring and perhaps foolish to spend hours playing with every possible config in wine frontend without knowing what I'm doing. So what can I do to find out what libraries, configs, tricks or scripts are needeed to make an app run under wine if it didn't at the first try?

Feb 6, 2010I've downloaded and installed WINE, works well with most windows programs I run. I recently downloaded a program called METT (micro expression training tool), and apparently it needs a disc to be ran. Well, I installed KISO and mounted the image there, but I still can't get it to run.

Mar 19, 2010First post, and I apologize if it's already been covered and/or I put this in the wrong section, but I couldn't find anything quite like what I was looking for. Basically, I have been running Ubuntu on my backup machines for near a year now and I LOVE it. I want to move my main machine over to Ubuntu as well but there is one thing standing in my way: namely, my Steam collection.
I've seen on several websites and forum threads that Steam and its games run fairly well through Wine, but I've never used Wine before and am kind of nervous about setting this all up. My question is, is there any tutorial available that can walk me through getting steam working through Wine without issues? I've gotten fairly used to linux at this point, so I'm not afraid of the shell, I'm just looking for a little guidance. Also, a side question: I play Garry's Mod all the time, which I could see having lot of potential problems running on linux due to all the addons and stuff. Have any of you ever played Gmod on Ubuntu before? And if so does it work ok with most of the addons?

Jul 22, 2011i recently installed wine, steam, and team fortress 2 so that i could play it. They all installed just fine except for not getting fonts but i did that manually. The problem is when i run tf2 the screen seems to scramble at the menu but after a while it goes away. Performance is terrible in game though and crashes have happened. im running ubuntu 11.04 and the beta of wine installed via software center. Everything else runs great if not better on ubuntu and i would really like to continue to use it over win7.

Apr 1, 2010I setup wine using the yum command which installed 1.1.14 fine. But I get problems when I try to run utorrent (the text is buggered) so I need to install the latest version 1.1.41. Using yum update wine doesn't work. I tried downloading the latest version from the wine website but I can't get it to install. I try to run the wineinstall shell script but it starts ok but then comes up with an error and closes before I can even see what the error is.

Aug 11, 2010Fedora 13 (2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.i686)"yum install wine" ends with an error message. If I understood correctly it complains about missing wine-common package "Requires: wine-common = 1.2.0-1.fc13".However, when trying to install wine-common "yum install wine-common" it says it is already installed "Package wine-common-1.2.0-1.fc13.noarch already installed and latest version".

Fedora X86/64bit :: Wine Won't Run Anything
Sep 25, 2010Im running Fedora 13 x86_64, I used to run the 32bits version, but I decided to get all I can from my 64bit procesor. Anyways, I have to run some aplications on Wine, like Microchip MPLAB software, for programing PICS, it used to workk perfectly fine on my 32 bits version, but ever since I installed the 64bits version, I can't get anything to work. Of course there are alternatives, but my coworkers use Windows, and MPLAb, alternatives have quite similar, but yet diferent sintaxis, so I kinda need to solve this, otherwise, I will have to migrate back to the 32bits version. I tryied o install some clumsy soft, but still, wine can't initialize anything. I tryied to install lots of libraries, but problably Im missing something.
