Ubuntu :: Install Oracle's SQL Developer?
Jul 21, 2010just got a quick question: I need to install Oracle's SQL Developer since I need to use the program for a database unit at Uni. Anyway, if you've tried to use it before you'd realise that there is only a .rpm installer available for it (no .deb). So I tried to convert it to .deb using alien. When I "sudo alien --scripts" the .rpm I get: error: incorrect format: unknown tag mkdir: cannot create directory `sqldeveloper-2.1.1.64.45': File exists unable to mkdir sqldeveloper-2.1.1.64.45: at /usr/share/perl5/Alien/Package.pm line 257.
Basically, I'm asking, does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? I've never used alien before since I've never had a need to convert a .rpm before. I also tried installing and running Java JDK and SQL Developer under Wine, but was unsuccessful with that as well

Jan 25, 2010Being a LAMP snob, it pains me to even think these thoughts, but .I'm running FC-9, and developing websites, mainly using PHP - well the whole LAMP thing. I now find the need to test/code for IE. To that end I'm thinking VMware, VitrualBox, etc. loaded up with that "other" OS.
I'm sure others have gone down this path. I'm guessing the answer is Win-7. My main question is: OK, I do a virgin buy and install and register it on my VM. Six months later I want to change from VM-X to VM-Y and I reinstall - what is MS's feelings on VM's.

Feb 24, 2009I have wasted lot of time in installing rpm packages which are needed for oracle 11g on Fedora 10. Packages dependencies are going in circle. Is there any better to handle this package install and its dependencies? I was using rpm -ivh command. Following are required packages. Tried to down load packages which are not present in /var/log/rpmpkgs.

Apr 23, 2010I am trying to install guest additions on Oracle Enterprise Linux Update 5. Whenever I try to the run VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run script I get the following problem:
erifying archive integrity.All good. Uncompressing VirtualBox 2.0.0 Guest Additions for Linux installation. VirtualBox 3.0.6 Guest Additions installation install the build and header files for your current Linux kernel. The current kernel version is 2.6.18-164.el5PAE Problems were found which would prevent the Guest Additions from installing. correct these problems and try again. I also tried yum install using the following commands without any luck:
yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers-`uname -r`
Following are the package information of my kernel-devel and headers:
> rpm -q kernel-devel

Nov 20, 2009I am using the Redhat Cluster Suite (luci and ricci) on my centos 5.4. i have 2 nodes in a cluster.I had clustered an apache server.The service is up end running and i can stop,start and switch on all two node.The problem is when i try to simulate a fault for one node.For example:The apache resource stay on the first cluster node.If i power off the first cluster node (not halt or init 0 but take off the eletric power off), the second cluster node not take the resource.With the clustat command, the service still running on the first node.But the service is down. The first node is dead.Only one the first node is join again the cluster the resource goes up on the second node.

There is no luci_admin and even if I manage to start luci service, I get a blank white screen when I try to open it from the browser. I've googled a bit and found that I'd might be able to setup GFS if I manage to build cluster.conf manually and start the cluster suite, but I cannot find documentation on how to create cluster.conf anywhere. If anyone knows how to setup GFS2 without a cluster suite or how to configure cluster.conf.
