Fedora :: Java Missing In Eclips After Upgrade From F10 To F11?
Jun 19, 2009
I recently upgraded from fedora 10 to fedora 11, everything seemed to go fine until I started eclipse and noticed that the java perspective was now missing. It was there before the upgrade, but something seems to be broken now. However, I can't find any error files, so I have no clue as to what may be broken. I looked around online to see if anyone else had a similar issue, but could not find anything that seemed to help. One site suggested that it was caused by not having the eclipse-jdt package installed, so I double checked that but already had it installed.
$ rpm -qa | grep -i eclipse | sort
eclipse-jdt-3.4.2-9.fc11.x86_64
eclipse-platform-3.4.2-9.fc11.x86_64
[code].....
Another site said that something in my .eclipse directory might have been corrupted and suggested moving it and letting eclipse create a new one, but this all did not . I was unable to find any other information about what could be causing this or how to fix it.

I'm having a very strange error after upgrading to (K)Ubuntu 10.04.. basically Java Applets don't work in any browser (tried with Firefox, Chrome and Opera). The applet loads (plugin and JVM detected by all browsers) but it is grayed out. After trying all possible solutions I could think of (including installing alternatives jvm) I tried to run the browser as superuser: the applet is then working correctly. So somehow it seems to be a user right problem, but I'm not sure where this is coming from, both java (sun-6) and the browsers were installed and working ok in 9.10. Here is the directory list of /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/i386
Code:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K 2010-05-07 14:03 client
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K 2010-05-07 14:03 headless
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K 2010-05-07 14:03 jli

I can't seem to be able to uninstall Fedora Eclipse. It just won't go away. I tried sudo yum remove eclipse, and it said code...
But the icon is still in my activities bar, and I can still start eclipse by clicking on it...nothing has changed.

I have just upgraded from F9 to F11. There are a lot of problems I appear to be having with dependencies.
yum update produces the following (the bits before appear ok):

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: package-cleanup --problems
package-cleanup --dupes
rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

I upgraded from fedora 11 to fedora 13 which upgraded Netbeans from 6.5 to 6.8. Now 6.8 complains that package javax.persistence does not exist. Is this a fedora problem or a Netbeans problem? I've looked in the netbeans forums and can't find any discussion of this.

I've just (finally!) gotten around to upgrading a couple of machines at a company I do some work for. One machine had a problem when I rebooted onto the new system. During the boot sequence, when it was checking and mounting the filesystems, it was unable to find the /boot partition. Now, this machine does run LVM on all but the /boot partition. The two SATA drives are mirrored, and they have the same partition layout:
Disk /dev/sda: 320.0 GB, 320072933376 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
[code]....
I got the system to boot by commenting out the /boot partition in /etc/fstab, but this is certainly only a temporary solution. The other system that I upgraded came up just fine, as have several of my own. Unfortunately, I am doing these two systems by remote control via ssh as I have only limited plysical access to them. (I did have to get to it to figure out why it didn't boot up..)

I just upgraded from fc11 to fc12 with a great deal of trouble...finally am partially functional. The problem really bugging me is the missing claws-mail toolbar that shows "tools", addressbook, encrypt/decrypt, and especially the ability to load plugins, and set all preferences. I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling but nothing provides the toolbar I need. Yum does not provide anything new either. As most of my important passwords are encrypted, and I need the claws pgp plugin to be loaded.

I just finished upgrading the last of 3 machines from F10 to F12 using preupgrade (all i686). Except for a non-critical hplip issue, all went well with the first two machines upgraded 1 week and 3 days ago, but some python F10->F12 updates were missing on the third machine that I upgraded yesterday, leaving yum inoperable. Thanks to good yum error messages, I was able to resolve the problem (I think), but I thought I should post to check if mine is a unique or common problem, to enquire if it may have resulted from some of the python packages being in "update transit" in the repositories, and/or whether something like this can be avoided in future? Details follow:
Upgrade appeared to go well except for some dejavu font dependency issues (experienced on all three machines) and libcrypto.so.7 missing for eet-1.2.2-4... (third machine). However, there was a boot message that some python module (can't remember which) was not present for some nvidia requirement, although video driver worked fine. When testing yum: First it complained that libpython2.6.so.1.0 was not present. Since that module conflicted (identified by rpm) with various python 2.5.*f10 packages that that were still on board, I copied libpython2.6.so.1.0 (from a current f12 rpm) into /usr/lib manually. Second, yum complained that urlgrabber was not available, so rpm with the latest python-urlgrabber for f12 solved that.
Third, yum complained that pycurl was not available, so rpm with the latest python-pycurl solved that. Yum now works! and boot message is gone! I ran "yum install python-libs" to make sure that any necessary dependencies were met following my manual installation of libpython2.6.so.1.0, which resulted in a bunch of python dependencies being upgraded as a result.

I've just upgraded from F9 to F10. I can boot okay but I seem to have lost some data in one of my logical volumes. My drive is organised as follows:
/dev/mapper/main_group-various: UUID="f7c452cf-9f03-4f97-8676-b71b07a812aa" TYPE="ext3" SEC_TYPE="ext2"
/dev/mapper/main_group-root: UUID="173f1845-72c9-49e8-9d49-2a5776c4267c" TYPE="ext3" SEC_TYPE="ext2"
/dev/mapper/main_group-music: UUID="f5411861-4614-4652-a5f5-a3a8c2efcdd3" TYPE="ext3" SEC_TYPE="ext2"
[code].....
The logical volume for work still seems to be there. I presume (and hope) that all the information in /dev/main_group/work is still there. How can the folders in /dev/main_group/work be retrieved?

I just updated Java and when I checked in my plugins for SeaMonkey, Java is not listed, not even IcedTea. When I looked at FireFox's plugins, the only Java listed was IcedTea.
How can I get SeaMonkey to know that Java is installed? I looked for the 32 bit Java from within YaST but saw none, just the 64 bit.
Anyway, these are the java's installed:
I'm running SuSE 11.4 and my browser of choice is SeaMonkey 2.0.14.
This is a list of my ~/.mozilla/plugins folder:

Recently I installed DEBIAN 6.0 amd64. Since then I have been unable to do netbanking (at least with linux) due to the missing 64bit java applet plugin, which does the authentication. I cannot get the 32bit plugin working with my browsers (epiphany, iceweasel).
Mozilla.org remmonds using a 32bit browser.
I then installed FIREFOX (32bit), however, it refuses to run : "unable to locate libgtk-x11..." to make it short: the library actually exists on my system (I located it), something else must be wrong.
My questions: will I be better off reinstalling the 32bit version of DEBIAN ? (or what about the possibility of a 64bit java applet plugin being released in near future- will this be wishful thinking or a realistic hope?) as a matter of fact, I have used the java applet since REDHAT version 5 or 6, a lot of years ago, so this plugin-trouble really takes me by surprise.

I am new to Fedora and Linux. I have installed Fedora 12 on virtual box and installed Guest Additions. Later I did upgrade Fedora updates and noticed that my Guest Additions features were missing like Seamless mode, shared folders etc. Hence I had install Guest Additions again. So every time when I do Fedora updations, do I need to re-install Guest Additions or am I missing something very obvious?

Recently it appeared to me that my java-plugin is missing. (apparently I don't need it that often).
I've had various upgrades of firefox on my machine, currently i've got version 3.6.13.
I tried to check the plugin directory for the java-plugin - only to find out that I have more than one:
I found out that the other plugins I use reside in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. In this directory there is
All this has cost me hours now - but still I have no java-plugin. Quite frustrating.
How can I get a working java-plugin? How can I clean up all this plugin mess?

chmod u+s /usr/bin/nice
And then tried:

I upgraded one of my VMware VMs that was running 9.10 to 10.04 and it seems everything is working except my ability to connect to WebEx meetings. My guess is that it is a WebEx programming issue but I thought I'd post here too in case someone knows a work around.
When I attempt to "start" my WebEx meeting I immediately get this error:
"The requested URL /tc0505lb/webcomponents/docshow/docshow.do_siteurl=ciscosales&jvm=1.6.0_18&isJavaC lient=true was not found on this server."
My pre-Ubuntu 10.04 upgraded VM is able to start a WebEx meeting just fine.
