how to upgrade and update both Flash and Java on Ubuntu 11.04 I use both Mozilla Firefox and Chromium and not sure if I need to download flash and Java for each program or not.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI upgraded Opera to version 11.00, and also upgraded on my computer Adobe Flash to version 10.1.102.64 (or 65 if I recall). The Flash update reflects properly in Firefox and Google Chrome, but unfortunately it does not show up properly in Opera. It shows that Opera has 10.0.45.2 as the flash version. Why is this not updating with the Opera and Flash updates?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded one of my VMware VMs that was running 9.10 to 10.04 and it seems everything is working except my ability to connect to WebEx meetings. My guess is that it is a WebEx programming issue but I thought I'd post here too in case someone knows a work around.
When I attempt to "start" my WebEx meeting I immediately get this error:
"The requested URL /tc0505lb/webcomponents/docshow/docshow.do_siteurl=ciscosales&jvm=1.6.0_18&isJavaC lient=true was not found on this server."
My pre-Ubuntu 10.04 upgraded VM is able to start a WebEx meeting just fine.
I want to install java 6 update 18.Mine is 64 bit Ubuntu OS.I have downloaded jdk-6u18-linux-x64.bin file from sun.java.comBut I don't how to install .bin file in ubuntu.Before that can i use above file to install.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIf you are interested, Java SE 6 Update 24 is available. The Check Java Version link in my signature will tell you if you are up to date or not. The Update Java Version link in my signature will tell you how to obtain and install the latest version. The 32 bit version install directions are on the left side of that page and the 64 bit instructions are on the right side.
Just remember to remove the current version before installing the new one as it says in the instructions. The remove instructions are below the install instructions. Also, in Step 9 - "Now you'll want to tell the system, that there's a new Java version available." See the note below it that says if you get an error upon entering the command once, enter it a second time. I have to do that and sometimes forget. Just thought I would mention that. These instructions are already setup for version 6 update 24, but they can be modified for any update and they will work. I have been using these instructions for a couple of years and they work.
I have problem with software update. As update is available Update manager pop ups and I start "install updates", every time update run and stop at java updates. The screen shot attached.

It is present in my home folder with its own directory, but I am unsure how to use it. I downloaded Java to try to play Minecraft, but when I open then .jar file with the directory nothing happens. The actual directory contains the following
folders:bin,javaws,lib,man,plugin,copyright,licens e,a read me file, thirdpartylicensereadme, and a welcome.html file. I don't like running Minecraft with OpenJDK because it lags tremendously and it won't close, and I heard the "real Java" runs it much better.Did I download it incorrectly, if so can you tell me how?
I am begining on Ubuntu Server Management I would like to receive your on this doubt In order to have my Ubuntu Server up to date and with the last security patches, is it enough to do:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade?
If not, please where I can find an easy guide in order to keep or mantain my server OK? Also, what are the risks when we do: sudo apt-get dist-upgrade?
After upgrading java (jre) to 1.6.0_19, the java plugin no longer loads into Firefox. All the rest of my plugins from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ load fine.Java can be a pain such a pain the neck!
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm having a very strange error after upgrading to (K)Ubuntu 10.04.. basically Java Applets don't work in any browser (tried with Firefox, Chrome and Opera). The applet loads (plugin and JVM detected by all browsers) but it is grayed out. After trying all possible solutions I could think of (including installing alternatives jvm) I tried to run the browser as superuser: the applet is then working correctly. So somehow it seems to be a user right problem, but I'm not sure where this is coming from, both java (sun-6) and the browsers were installed and working ok in 9.10. Here is the directory list of /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/i386

Now I want to upgrade from 9.10 to 10.4. The downloaded contents of 10.4 is there in my flash drive. Kindly let me know how can I upgrade. Also kindly note that I am having a reliance USB net connect but I am not able to connect to the internet through it as 9.10 is not supporting. I have tried to install the wvdial but was not able to install the same. Kindly help me out as I am fully non technical guy and don't have any idea of software but I want to learn. In case I have to save it to root or home folder kindly let me know the path and other things that I have to type in the terminal.As I don't have any idead of any command as well.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI had the Adobe flash plugin working under 09.10 in Firefox; now after the upgrade to 10.04, it doesn't work.When I go to a web page with flash video, I get the message "Some plugins are not installed" and video will not display. I click on the button to install the plugins and select Adobe Flash. I get the message "Package is already installed." I go back to the web page and the same thing happens again.In Ubuntu Software Center I see that package restricted-extras is installed.
I tried going through Tools / Add-ons in Firefox, but the list of add-ons wouldn't load at all that way.I also tried going to Adobe's web site, but for versions of Ubuntu 09 and later it offers an "APT" file instead of a .deb. Firefox asks what application to use to open an "APT" file and I don't know what to tell it... I'd be fine downloading a .deb or using apt-get or Ubuntu Software Center though.
I updated my Ubuntu to Meerkat last night. everything seems to be working fine, except when i went to iplayer, it told me flash wasn't installed. I followed the link, and installed flash from APT source. In the software centre it is listed as installed. However, still cannot view flash videos.i have tried rebooting too.

I have a 1.0 ghz G4 eMac running Tiger. Using Ubuntu 10.04's Live-CD I installed 10.04 on a 8-gig USB flash drive and it worked very well despite spending nearly five hours to download its files via DSL and a pokey USB 1.1 port. The flash drive's 10.04 installation worked just fine on my eMac and 900mhz G3 iBook except for Airport wireless non-connecting issues.(I like Ubuntu 10.04 because unlike Mint for PPC, you're not hassled or barred from accessing your Mac HD and its files.) THEN, to resolve my wireless issues, I decided to upgrade to 10.10 which took nearly 12 hours, and it seemed to've installed well until I tried booting the flash drive and it doesn't work. I get the Ubuntu icon in the Startup Disk screen but it keeps returning to it even after I select Ubuntu. The error screen I get reads code...
View 5 Replies View RelatedUbuntu Lucid 10.04 Today, 23.11.2010, the update manager did present two posts with adobe flash plugin updates at the top of the list.
Since I abhor adobe as much as m$, I never installed their flash plugin but did use gnash instead (which works sometimes, and sometimes not...)
So my first question was, why should I update a thing that I do not have and do not want ? Following I did UNcheck the checkbox of these two updates, which in my mind means that Update manager must NOT do these UNchecked updates, isn't it ?
I was terrified to observe that, even UNchecked, the adobe flash plugin has been installed against my will. I would have expected such arrogance from m$, but not from Ubuntu...
Of course, I went to synaptic immediately to uninstall this crap. Knowing how hard it is to get rid of flash under m$, I have some doubts about the fact if synaptic did really uninstall this crap cleanly and completely. I would not be astonished to find at least some remains on my HD one of these days. My current feeling is that nobody on earth can be trusted any more...
1. I would really like to know why these updates were listed in the update manager at all, when the thing to update was never installed before.
2. And I would like to know why they were dictatorially imposed, even though I did UNcheck them.
I'm now using Ubuntu 9.04 and I think of upgrading it to version 10.04 (when it shall be "stable").I'd like to know if I am supposed to modify /etc/apt/sources.list with the name of the new version even though I upgrade by "update-manager-core" with the command sudo do-release-upgrade

Update Manager wants me to update to Firefox 3.5.7. I'm currently running 64-bit Firefox 3.5.6. I'd like to update, but Update Manager says nothing about this 3.5.7 being the 64-bit version. If I upgrade from the UM, I don't know if I'll be getting 32-bit or 64-bit FF. How can I tell beforehand which one I'll get?

Today I noticed a large sound gap while playing Minecraft. There is about a second of lag between an action and the sound effect. This wasn't happening the night before, and I thought it might be a problem with Java or Minecraft until I noticed it on a flash application in Firefox. I've tried killing pulse audio, but I noticed nothing. I also looked into the sound preferences and tried the speaker test, which had no lag.
Other possibly relevant information : I dual boot my laptop with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10. Ubuntu has some updates ready, but I don't believe its relevant because the problem just started.
