Fedora :: Installing Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge From An Old Iso File?
Feb 10, 2010
I recently decided to try installing Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge from an old iso file I had floating around my hard drive. I first mounted the iso and copied the files from it into a folder. I then used Wine to install. Everything went according to plan until I went to run the game. When I tried running Red Alert 2 (original) an error message popped up: Error - Unable to set the video mode. When I tried running Yuri's Revenge the same thing happened with one small exception, the first couple of times I tried the Yuri's Revenge splash screen popped up before showing the error message. However the splash screen no longer pops up.
I am trying to check what all processes are accessing a particular file (a UDP socket in my case) on a filesystem.I am using 'fuser' for that. But, it seems, it only gives the processes accessing the file at that particular moment. Is there any way to continuously run 'fuser' (or some other command) which will give all processes accessing the file during its run?OR is it possible to generate a filesystem alert when a particular process accesses the file?
I'm running kubuntu 10.10 with wine installed. When i click on the exe file to launch, the wine glass bobs up and down then disappears. I've read all over that this game installs fine with wine. What gives?
My requirement is that I wanted a shell script which should read the alert.log(oracle) and should send the alert to my email if any error encountered on daily basis. I have a script which does the same job but at the same time it creates a new alert.log whenever any error occur. But I don't want the new alert log I wanted to read the same alert log daily and if any new error come should alert as email.
How do you change the volume of the terminal alert bell in F11? (the sound you hear when you press the tab button). I turned the sound all the way down and muted the "Alert volume" in System>Pref>Sound but I still get a deafening bell sound whenever I press the tab button.
I sue Fedora 13. Since a few times ago, every time when I start the computer, it appears a message of SELinux trouble shooter about a security alert. But most of times there are no errors to show.
I am facing the below problem:sudo /etc/init.d/xinetd reload sudo: /etc/init.d/xinetd: command not found. /etc/init.d/xinetd restart /etc/init.d/xinetd stop.
Everytime I login the SELinux Troubleshooter panel applet alerts me that I have 1 alert to view, however when I click on the icon and bring up the Troubleshooter there are no alerts
I'm considering making a switch from Ubuntu/Linux Mint to Fedora 15 because I just adore, love, cannot be without Gnome Shell any longer. SELinux - I actually am finding I hate this program as it blocks certain plugins (like Java), some programs I run it blocks functionality, etc. What's the best way to disable it or make it more like Ubuntu where it's pretty much permissive of everything. Common Apps I use - I haven't checked the repos, but at the least I use the following (some I know work, but I can't remember the specific ones I want to know if I need to compile or if it's in the repos)
a - Snes9x b - PCSX Reloaded c - KeepNote d - libdvdcss2 and libdvdread4 e - MP4, MP3, AVI, MPEG, OGG, OGV codecs (I think I've converted any others like WMA and WMV... wait I have a few WMA files, crap) f - Flash 64-bit - this one I have issues with SELinux wise, (reason for first question) g - VirtualBox - it runs so much faster under Fedora so I know this one works h - Sun Java
RPMs - Fedora uses RPMs right? Is there like an DEB Alien to convert DEBs to RPMs? Apache2 - Now maybe I found this as httpd or lightppd or something, but why isn't it listed as Apache2 in the repos? I'm more or less guessing that Fedora is not a "rolling" release, is there a variant or version that is or a repo I can enable? A software center, other than Synaptic; I'm pampered when it comes to Ubuntu Software Center and that, is there anything like that in Fedora that isn't Synaptic? What's the terminal command for installing packages, is it zypper or is that OpenSuSE?
I have been using Ubuntu for some time now and am feeling up for a bit of a change but don't want to change completely. I thought of trying openSUSE or Mandriva out before but they didn't feel right and I have heard so much about Fedora I was thinking about trying that but since I don't have any discs and nor can I boot from USB, I started thinking about other ways of installing it to my laptop.
Is there any way I could mount it and add it to the grub/menu.lst so that the iso is loadable when I load into the Grub menu and I can continue its installation from there or, I have heard about a program called UNetbootin which can apparently do the job for, including downloading the .iso.
I have a problem with the 'yum update': Code: Warning in file "/usr/share/applications/gnome-nautilus-folder-handler.desktop": usage of MIME type "x-directory/gnome-default-handler" is discouraged ("x-directory" is an old media type that should be replaced with a modern equivalent) Warning in file "/usr/share/applications/gnome-nautilus-folder-handler.desktop": usage of MIME type "x-directory/normal" is discouraged ("x-directory" is an old media type that should be replaced with a modern equivalent). And I also got this warning when installing VLC.
I would love to start using the new Firefox. How would I go about adding the repository and installing? What would I add? Or better yet, what is the command for unpacking a tar.bz2 file?

I downloaded Java from the Java website, and went into the root to try and make it an executable file, and it says "chmod: cannot access `home/Non-Admin/Downloads/jre-6u25-linux-i586-rpm.bin': No such file or directory". Is there some sort of program I can install that will automatically turn the rpm.bin/.bin into an executable file?
I have a list of domains in "domains.txt" , and I wanted to put an "nslookup" in front of each line and run it.. However I could not figure out a command for it.. Any ideas how to do this simple task?
I have a many process running in my machine with similar command and the command is 'gzip'. It is running by a program in a file. How will I find out the file which is behind this command.
After installing Fedora 12, all of my programs are missing the top menus such as File, Edit, and like wise I haven't been able to figure out why this is, since it has never happened before.
When I try to install Cinelerra I get this error: Local file conflict between packages Two packages provide the same file. This is usually due to mixing packages from different software sources.
Test Transaction Errors: file /usr/bin/mpeg3cat from install of cinelerra-2.1-20_git20091116.fc13.x86_64 conflicts with file from package libmpeg3-utils-1.8-3.fc12.x86_64 file /usr/bin/mpeg3dump from install of cinelerra-2.1-20_git20091116.fc13.x86_64 conflicts with file from package libmpeg3-utils-1.8-3.fc12.x86_64 file /usr/bin/mpeg3toc from install of cinelerra-2.1-20_git20091116.fc13.x86_64 conflicts with file from package libmpeg3-utils-1.8-3.fc12.x86_64
I use to use Ubuntu and recently came to Fedora, I am not a fan of the package manager in Fedora so I am trying to install things through terminal and when I use Sudo cause that is what I am familiar with this is what it gives me. Devon is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported. What do I do? I am just trying to install Libreoffice 3.3 and Banshee 2.0
I recently decided to install xfce-desktop as a fallback alternative whenever Gnome 3 has problems. Now I have the Thunar file manager opening up by default even when logged into Gnome (for example when using Alt-F2 and typing in a folder name, or when plugging in an iPod.) I've searched around for days but can't find any place to set a default file manager. The Default Applications dialogue doesn't include file manager, only web browser, video etc.)
I am trying to install matlab R2011a student edition in Fedora 15, 64 bits system. This version of matlab do not support 64 bits linux out of the box, but can be installed by adding -glnx86 as an argumenof the installing script.
However after running the installation script I receive the following error message: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /tmp/mathworks_32316/java/jre/glnx86/jre/lib/i386/xawt/libmawt.so: libXext.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
It seems to be a problem with libXext.so.6, however, I do have libXext library installed in my computer. The name of the package I have installed is: X.Org X11 libXext runtime library libXext-1.2.0-2.fc15 (x86_64)
Does anybody know how to get attributes for a video file from the command line? For instance I'd like to get the video file running time. I've looked all over and I can't find out how to do this; the "file" command shows some data but not running time. I'm sure there has to be a way.
Is there a way to use the diff command between an older and a newer version of a file and only display the lines that have been added to the newer file and not the ones that have been removed without any of the explanation formatting, just the new lines. I'm trying to bypass the process of putting both files into a database and running an SQL "left join where old data is null" as I will need to do this on a regular basis.
