After installing Fedora 12, all of my programs are missing the top menus such as File, Edit, and like wise I haven't been able to figure out why this is, since it has never happened before.

I found a thread that said this fixed itCode:yum remove gnome-applet-globalmenu gnome-globalmenu-common sshmenu gnome-applet-sshmenubut I did that and (I'm using audacity to test) it said that it was missing gnome-globalmenu. So I did Code:sudo yum --enablerepo=updates-testing install gnome-applet-globalmenu gnome-globalmenu-common sshmenu gnome-applet-sshmenubut now audacity is again missing the file menus.

Right-clicking on the bar gives only Applications and System as editable menus. I would like to remove some items from the places menu and add others of my own liking
In F11 the administration menu had more things in it IIRC. Seems that in F12 a lot of tools are missing.Specifically the SELinux config tool is missing, but getting the rest of the menu back would be nice. I can't remember what it had but I'm sure I'll need them at some point.

Is there anyway I could run the display preferences by running a command in the bash shell or is there a quick key that allows menu access.

View 7 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded to fc12, noticed that there was no menu bar (the one with "file", "edit", etc....) on my users/groups configuration program, but I figured that it was just a change from fc11. But now I'm noticing more stuff that doesn't have one that ought to (gedit, filezilla, and most importantly, nautilus).On the other hand, firefox does have the menu bar, so it's not a global issue. I have compiz-fusion/emerald, although I'm not sure that would make a difference. I've tried a few different themes thinking it might be the theme I'm using, but no dice.

I know in Backtrack that I used a program,I don't really remember which one it was,I think KGrubEditor,but that is a KDE app,and I cannot find a place where I could download it anyway. View 2 Replies View Relatedafter yesterday's update to kernel 2.6.35.10-72 my grub.conf didn't get updated and ll /boot shows that neither vmlinuz or initramfs exist for that kernel. uname -r though tells me I'm running 2.6.35.10-72.
How can I do that? and on another more reallystic matter how can I generate the missing files so I can manually update grub.conf?
I got wine installed,.. about 1/4 in to the installation it says 'file missing' or something

how to reproduce:
open firefox, download and install some plugins/addons that generate menu entries with an icon in front of them.
e.g. "downthemall" (down them all)

there is however space for these icons in the menu. and I can see icons in the bookmark and history menus. (web page favicons)
these icons improve the usability greatly because they offer a visual guide to the menu not only to the item they belong to but also to other items because I know that the item I want is e.g. one above the green triangle.
I have a slightly impaired vision so this a far greater issue to me than you well sighted folks may think. Just put on some glasses with lots of fingerprints on them and you will see the difference.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed several programs. Some installed and worked, some did not. I installed Konversation and Audacity. Both work fine. When I installed bitpim via RPM downloaded from bitpim.org it installed fine. It is not in the applications area. I type Alt+F2 and i start to type in bitpim (it types the rest) and press enter. nothing happens.
i installed PythonCard through the terminal using yum install PythonCard. It installed fine and it is not in applications and is nowhere to be found. However when I type yum install PythonCard again in the terminal it says it is up to date. So I removed it and reinstalled. Same problem.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI run apache on a non standard port(82).I just installed unity to play around with it and while I was playing with it I installed prixfixe through software center to edit the menus.While prixfixe was installing my computer was acting very slow which was odd, but not completely unusual.During this time I ran ps aux which showed that my apache server was taking up most of the processing power.I was about to stop my web server,but I waited just in case the web server was updating a few things (I run ampache).
My computer finished installing the software and then I ran some command with sudo (I can't remember what the command was), but it threw back some message saying "setid blabla". I restarted my computer and when I got to my gdm my normal user account did not show up. There were no accounts and the restart/shutdown buttons didn't work.Now I'm running on a livecd and checking out my apache access logs, apache error logs,and kernel logs,but nothing looks out of place..

I'd like to be able to run a mythtv frontend on it so that I can watch shows in my office and not lose the screen space on my regular desktop. I was thinking of three possible directions to go. I have a question to go with each though.
1.) This machine has an existing winxp install that I don't want to mess up, but is there something on a Fedora live cd that I could use to smashing that winxp install into a smaller space and repartitioning the drive? If so, I could just do an old fashion dual boot from the harddrive.
2.) I put a live install on a usb drive. If I do that, how do I install mythfrontend and make it persistant on the usb drive?
3.) I treat a usb drive like a regular hard drive and just do a normal fedora install, assuming the install sees the usb drive as a sd? device. I guess I don't have a question with this option, but I would rather avoid it since it will take a lot more space on the usb drive.
I have 11.04 installed, Gnome 2.32.0 - life has been good until I responded as normal to the update manager this morning. Upon reboot noticed my main menu, system menu and places menu are gone. Other icons and stuff like power button remain on the top toolbar but again, no menus.Googling around I found solutions that were years old and/or did not work for me (like installing XFCE - which did nothing).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'd like you to know that I'm completely new to ubuntu. Just install it a couple of days ago. I have a bit problem with startup here, everytime I change anything in System > Preferences > Startup Applications it just keep coming back to default. I unchecked Penmount Utility, and it's checked again after next boot. Same thing happen when I add Guake Terminal. When I reboot, it's not there anymore. So basically, it seems that I can't configure my startup programs.
