View 3 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Fedora-12-x86_64-DVD.iso and placed it on a 16GB USB drive using the Windows LiveUSB creator which had downloaded when I first download Fedora 11.The USB boots fine and I choose the language and the the keyboard layout. I tell it the image is on the USB drive it displays /images/install.img as the image.
However after going through all the steps up to choosing where I want it throws an error saying cannot find image #1 on the hard disk.Now if I boot again and instead of choosing the USB drive I hit F2 and then choose the USB drive then /Images then the install.img and press O.K. it says it isn't and just cycles around the choose drive/image.

I figured I would begin delving more into the open source environment by dual booting fedora and windows xp pro. Windows xp WAS already installed on the laptop, so I went through the steps to get fedora installed. Everything appeared to be working fine. Fedora came up nicely, and then I tried to boot windows (using grub boot loader). The Windows splash screen appeared, making me think things were fine. But suddenly the screen went black, with the computer going through a restart. This happened every time I tried to boot windows. So I began scouring the web to see if someone had a similar problem. I tried numerous things, but none of them worked. Of them, this appears to have gotten me farther than anything:
Going into grub I changed: rootnoverify (hd0,0)
to: rootnoverify (hd0,1)
Everything else remained the same. When I made this change, the computer went through Ramdisk, and the Toshiba recovery tool. Then two dialog windows appear in secession.
The first stating: Windows cannot find c:inerrordialog.exe
The second stating: Windows cannot find c:inootpriority.exe
I stumbled across information about the recovery console tool. Well, since my laptop has an OEM installation, there is no recovery console tool. But eventually, I was able to find one that I could download. (In case anyone is interested, here is the link for the [URL]
I burned the image to a cd on another computer, and then attempted to boot to the console from the cd/dvd drive on the laptop. But the system crashed, with the customary blue screen. I was hoping to be able to execute the chdsk command to repair whatever damage there might be, but this problem occurs each time I run the image. Fortunately I backed stuff up before this. I'm just hoping that I won't have to go through the ugly process of restoring everything because it's a lot to restore.
I upgraded to 11.3 and now a program I need to run under CrossOver doesn'trun. All I want to do is backtrack to 11.2 but it has disappeared from therepositories and I can't find my install dvd any more. Where can I download11.2 from?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy friend has had an HP Pavilion Slimline for about two years -- recently he suffered a power surge and had to replace his (dsl) modem and harddrive -- he can't find the Vista media that may or may not have come with the PC, so I offered to put opensuse on it for him. I used a dvd I had burned last July with 11.3 on it, and the install went without apparent problems. Then I tried an update, and was greeted with
Code:
Download failed:
File '/repodata/repomd.xml.asc' not found on medium

History:
- [AbstractCommand.cc:224]
URI=http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.3/repo/oss/repodata/repomd.xml.asc
That was bad, as I was unable to update. Then we tried a reboot and things got worse. Immediately after the bios info the message
[CODE]
Error loading operating system.
[/CODE}
appeared and the boot halted. The drive is new, we wrote to it and read from it during the install (I formatted it as ext3), but the box can't seem to find grub on it at boot, or it finds it and doesn't like it. If I reboot with the install DVD in the drive I can get a menu and "repair" (I think that was the choice) which gives me a login prompt, which I can tell "root", at which it responds with a shell prompt, but I don't know what I can do at that point to fix grub, or the SATA driver, or whatever needs fixing.
Going from Fedora 12 to 13. Got to the point where I have to reboot to install, system reboots to 12. This is a triple boot system with Open Suse and Mint, and the grub2 bootloader from Mint is the bootloader for the whole shebang. In the "how to use preupgrade" instructions there's a line that says "dentify the drive and partition of your Fedora /boot folder." How? If that sounds odd, consider that in my set up "computer" shows 4 partitions (and with just three operating systems..?). I can mount them, but have a problem telling which sytem is Fedora, Suse or Mint. And getting the FEDORA bootloader to find the PREUPGRADE kernel ... Momma said there'd be days like this.
cat /etc/fstab just returned /dev/sda1 on /boot. I installed Fedora first, before Suse or Mint, so being on the first drive or partition sounds right, but the multiple drives throws me, and "just guessing" doesn't seem like the way to go.
