View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install openSuse 11.2 from netinstall disk into a vmware virtual machine under vmware server 2 (free edition). The installation process starts ok, but later i receive a warning indicating that the opensuse repository can not be found. (download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/repo/oss /)I have checked the network setup and works perfectly, also i can ping download.opensuse.org from console successfully.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy friend has had an HP Pavilion Slimline for about two years -- recently he suffered a power surge and had to replace his (dsl) modem and harddrive -- he can't find the Vista media that may or may not have come with the PC, so I offered to put opensuse on it for him. I used a dvd I had burned last July with 11.3 on it, and the install went without apparent problems. Then I tried an update, and was greeted with
Code:
Download failed:
File '/repodata/repomd.xml.asc' not found on medium
'http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.3/repo/oss/'
History:
- [AbstractCommand.cc:224]
URI=http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.3/repo/oss/repodata/repomd.xml.asc
That was bad, as I was unable to update. Then we tried a reboot and things got worse. Immediately after the bios info the message
[CODE]
Error loading operating system.
[/CODE}
appeared and the boot halted. The drive is new, we wrote to it and read from it during the install (I formatted it as ext3), but the box can't seem to find grub on it at boot, or it finds it and doesn't like it. If I reboot with the install DVD in the drive I can get a menu and "repair" (I think that was the choice) which gives me a login prompt, which I can tell "root", at which it responds with a shell prompt, but I don't know what I can do at that point to fix grub, or the SATA driver, or whatever needs fixing.
When I want upgrade and/or install any package from software.opensuse.org I've got error, "Couldn't find XML file" or anything same this.

View 9 Replies View RelatedHave I missed something or is there really no (defining and explaining) article in the "(main)" namespache of the new openSUSE wiki about GRUB (GRUBLegacy or GRUB2 or just in general)? Only "How-to-do"s and not one "What-is"?

After upgrading openSUSE 11.1 to 11.3 boot fails with:
Could not find /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_xxxxxx.part_2 Want me to fail back to /dev/disk/by-id/........ (Y/n)
and then I am stuck in console-mode
when checking /dev directory there is no "/dev/disk" subdirectory, and no /dev/sdxx entries.
Booting with install-cd in rescue mode the entries are theree, and its posible to mount all disks.
I'm trying to find kdm configuration files where I could add post user login script to execute. I just cannot figure out what files are read and executed at what time. I'm trying to load ICC profile after user login. I needs to be executed by root before starting users KDE/Gnome/... session. Loading ICC profile requires running X, so /etc/init.d would not work. Setting s bit on a script run by user is the last resort due to obvious security implication. ... produced nothing useful. I would know what to do in older SuSE versions. In Ubuntu I'd put it in /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default ...

I've just upgraded to openSUSE 11.4 and I have 2 small problems.
1) I can't find fetchmsttffonts package, so I'm missing some fonts I was using
2) Is there a way how to change progress bar colors? I'm getting some poisonous light green and it's not very eye pleasing (I think that when I was doing same upgrade in virtual machine there where dark green similar to 11.3)
Below is the link that promises that the OpenSUSE release the Gnome 3 respin the day Gnome 3 is released.
openSUSE:GNOME features - openSUSE
Gnome 3 released yesterday but I see there is n activity so far in terms of re-spin. let me know if I'm missing something or the re-spin is not going to take place anymore. I was eagerly waiting for the GNOME3 so that I can use the respin version of OpenSUSE.
I've got a warning that reads: There is nothing that provodes libCg.so(VERSION) and it is needed by VirtualLab 6.2.2-.2.2.noarch
And it gives me the options:
-Do not install 6.2.2-.2.2.noarch.
-Break VirtualLab ignoring some of its dependencies.
What should I do?
I've been trying to get a live stick of OpenSUSE 11.2 running and I continuously get a script of "boot: could not find kernel image: gfxboot" running down the screen. Any other version of Linux will run fine off this same USB and I have not seen this error cited anywhere on these forums or Google.

I'm trying to install 11.3. The iso install DVD boots up ok, says 'welcome' in far more languages than I understand, I select English & US English then all useful progress stops. It suddenly can't detect my CD/DVD (although it DID when the system booted with the CD/DVD drive selected as 1st device to try to boot). I've tried pushing the button to eject and reload the DVD, no dice. Nothing seems to work, when I finally go for shutdown it suggests I might need to load a driver. My drive is a fairly new plextor px-b940sa.
Searching the plextor corp site for linux turns up zilch as does the knowledge base at novell.com. it's all in knowing the right magics words i suppose. my chip is the intel 6 core. my mobo is asus p6x58d (actually im wondering if it's the culprit because it does some fancy tricks). i tried my store-bought 11.1 suse install disk, it has the same difficulty. i suppose a usb-linked external dvd drive might be the obvious solution (won't cost too much but fairly likely to have some problem).
I cant loggin to my opensuse 11.3. I have installed Restricted Formats from opensuse.org, and when rebooting I recieved a message: can not find kserver, check your installation.
