Debian Configuration :: Dbus Package Is Corrupted Or Not Complete?

May 12, 2010

I had my laptop turned on. The battery turned out low and my pc shut down (not in the correct way obviously)! Plus: I was running apt-get upgrade but it should have done before shutting down. Now, I restarted my pc and under nm-applet I see: "wireless network: device not ready" and at login I get the message: "Network configurations failed. org.freedesktop.dbus.error.spawn.PermissionsInvalid: the permission of the setuid helper is not correct" and that I could not be able to connect via bluetooth (but actuallyu I can't use wireless!)! What to do guys? I use debian squeeze. I read from someone using kubuntu that he solved the problem reinstalling all the packages with "dbus" in their name. But I don't know if my ethernet will work yet!

Update: if I run dpkg-reconfigure dbus, it tells me that dbus package is corrupted or not complete: could be the issue?

Debian Configuration :: Corrupted (permanent) Systemd Logs In Jessie

Apr 22, 2016

I've enabled permanent systemd logs in Jessie, and after a while I'm seeing messages about corrupted logs when checking with journalctl --verify

Code: Select allInvalid tail monotonic timestamp 0%
File corruption detected at /var/log/journal/..........

as far as I can see, there is currently no option to delete this files from within systemd facilities, is that correct?

Should they be deleted manually, or just left alone?

Apparently I can still read all older logs regardless of such reported corruption, using the journalctl --boot -n option.

EDIT:Another thing coming to mind is that this has been happening for me not only in Jessie but in every systemd-based distro that I've tried, once permanent logging is enabled: is that some kind of systemd bug?

What would exactly mean

Code: Select allFile corruption detected at /var/log/journal/38d5e6b861134eadb37cbd64b98a66bd/user-65534@d1745ac610d2459f940a24f27abd6d47-0000000000000f14-00051b8d2dabdcac.journal:000000 (of 8388608 bytes, 0%)

in particular, the 0% of 8388608 bytes part ?

Debian Configuration :: Build A Package - Debian / Rules Error?

I recently tossed Ubuntu for Debian Unstable for my personal machines and I'm having trouble building Emerald into a package. I've already configured and installed the package (using the usual ./configure, make, make install) but I wanted to make a deb for future use (for myself and for others). However every time I try to run dpkg-build I get the following error message.

Debian Configuration :: Unable To Upgrade Software Package

May 26, 2010

I am trying to upgrade a Debian 4 server to v5 with the instructions from document. However, I am having trouble with getting an installed package upgraded to the latest version for the current release (see error below). And I am afraid to upgrade the distribution if I can't get this package to upgrade. One thing I did notice in the error was, "Aborting downgrade from (at least) 5.1 to 5.0". The dpkg --get-selections command showed that both MySQL 5.0 and 5.1 were installed (I don't know how or why, as I was not the one to setup this server), but 5.0 was the one running. So I've since uninstalled v5.1 but that error still shows up when I try to do an apt-install upgrade. I don't know that this is what is causing the package upgrade to fail but I thought it worth mentioning.

Debian Configuration :: Unable To Locate Package Pop3d ?

May 17, 2011

I have some problems to start my dovecot server on Debian 6.0.1 I tried to install it from webmin using "un-used modules" but it was allways the same error: "E: Unable to locate package dovecot-pop3d".

When I tried to install it from console using the commands: apt-get install dovecot-imapd dovecot-pop3d dovecot-common - and there are no problems with dovecot-imapd and dovecot-common, but still the same error with dovecot-pop3d: "E: Unable to locate package dovecot-pop3d".

I did apt-get update ant apt-get upgrade but I'm receiving still the same error when I want to install pop3d.

It's interesting because there were no problems to install and run dovecot server on earlier versions of debian.

Debian Configuration :: How To Remove Package That Ties With Core Ones

Aug 7, 2011

I have this package dependency question for a while. I have brand new Squeeze system. I selected desktop during installation. Gnome is default system but I turned off gdm3 and uses fluxbox as window manager. I understand if two packages are tied together funtionally so that removal of either package terminates one feature. Above cases, many small packages only depends on the core packages. The core packages work fine without games, other programs.

There are so many programs that I want to remove in the system. For examples, ekiga is a VoIP program that I never use it. When I tried to remove it using apt-get or aptitude, it suggests entire gnome packages will be removed also, which is illogical. The only solution I found is I need to manually remove the package files. I haven't tried it yet.

Debian Configuration :: Missing Policy Package - KDE Setup Several Programs Don't Work

Aug 1, 2011

I've got Debian Sid x64 on my machine. Problem is that in my KDE setup several programs don't work, namely System Load Viewer plasmoid, plasmoid with temperature info and update-notifier-kde. System Load Viewer always shows 0% RAM and swap usage, as well as no processors, temperature sensors plasmoid shows no sensors available even after I installed lm-sensors and run sensors-detect, update-notifier-kde doesn't show any notifications even if I run aptitude update manualy. I might be mistaken but it seems to me that these three programs are not working because of some common reason, most likely some policy package either missing or misconfigured, but I can't figure out what is it.
