Fedora :: Get Yumex Installed And Working On 13?
Sep 23, 2010just upgraded to fedora 13 and have a question on a problem with yumex install. have some forms downloaded for fedora 10 but don't seem compatible with 13/ so now how do I get yumex installed and working on 13? don't have internet connextion at home so all installs have to be from install disk or downloads from local library.

Jan 23, 2010After doing updates a few days ago yumex stopped working. I started getting an error message when I try to run it, "no connected to a network". This is of course not true.
I've looked at yumex.conf and don't see anything wrong, and I downgraded the GTK2 packages from a post indicating a segfault issue with one of those packages.
yum works fine from the command line, so my system is fully updated.
I removed yumex and then reinstalled it with no joy.

Dec 2, 2009I have 3 kernels installed. When I look at my installed kernels with yumex or package kit all I see is the latest kernel. rpm -qa lists them and I was able to remove the oldest using rpm -e.Is this some new feature of YUMEX and package kit to only show the latest version installed?

Nov 4, 2010I just upgraded from Fedora 11 x86_64 to Fedora 13 using the DVD. After rebooting I discovered that none of the launch menu items for OOo are working. But that is probably because I had OOo 3..2.1 installed by downloading it from openoffice.org instead of using the version in the repos. I have "openoffice" listed in some file somewhere (I forgot) to exclude OOo from updates.
So I decided to launch Yumex to make sure that the upgrade didn't overwrite my OOo installation with the version from the repos. But Yumex will not launch. It gives me an error message that there is a problem with the livna repo, and to launch it with yumex -n.
I can launch it with yumex -n, and I can unselect the livna repo, but when I try to launch it later it still fails. Launching again with yumex -n reveals that the livna repo is still selected. I have unselected the livna repo several times, but every time I relaunch Yumex it is still enabled.
I spent a long time in the Debian world and don't know how to delete a repo from the command line on Fedora. Can someone tell me how to nuke the livna repo so I can get Yumex to run?

Oct 25, 2009I have configured for yumex that I want to exclude all *.i386 updates. Still "yum downgrade <anything>" can download and install i386 packages. One other thing which is not purely x86_64 issue, but yum/yumex issue anyway. I noticed that yum updates daemon (yum-updatesd) does not work any more, or at least for x86_64, so I enabled yum_cron with catastrophic consequences. It automatically updated my amarok 1.4 to amarok 2.* although I have an exclude in Yumex for amarok! Here I go again!! I am not sure if I remember how to make 1.4 functional again...

Feb 26, 2011Am currently using Fedora 13. Yumex doing something I've never seen before. (I just recently downloaded the Fedora 14 DVD iso file; made a disk (w/Brasero) and tested it (good)).. But, now (I assume it may be connected) Yumex is asking for "Please insert media labelled Fedora 14 #1 ".

The thing is: Yumex should not even know anything about that.. Yum itself (from the command line) seems to work fine.. Anybody else have this happen?.. I haven't been able to get Yumex to work, now.. Tried removing Yumex and re-installing w/Yum.. That made no difference..Still get the same message, as shown in the image.. Ran "yum repolist" and list looks correct (all fc13).. did "yum clean all": ..made no difference.. (Will up upgrading to Fedora 14 soon, anyway.. but, I kinda would like Yumex to be working correctly, before I do..)
Ubuntu :: Python Based Programs Not Working
Apr 8, 2010I've been using Ubuntu 9.10 fairly regularly on my home computer for a week or two now, dual-booting it with Windows 7. So far I've been quite happy with it, but yesterday something odd happened. I decided to copy all the music I had stored on the Windows partition over to the Ubuntu file system so that I could listen to it there. I have about 16 gigs of music mostly in .mp3 format, so I put the folder on an external hard drive, then logged into Ubuntu and copied it back from the external drive to my Music file.
Once the transfer was done, I opened the Music file and double-clicked on one of the .mp3s at random to play it. When I did this, a window popped up and the first half-second or so of the track played, and then the window closed and it stopped. This happened once or twice more with different .mp3s. The window didn't last long enough for me to get a good idea of what program it was for, but I assume it was Totem, which I hadn't yet run since installing Ubuntu, because according to the Properties->Open With tab of any .mp3 file, that's the default program to use to open .mp3s.
Attempting to run Totem from the Applications menu gives the same result, I later found. Attempting to run Totem from a terminal gave the following error:

Then, several other programs began having similar issues immediately after I first tried to play a .mp3 yesterday. Specifically, Rhythmbox - which I also hadn't used before, and next tried to use to play the music - will not start at all. Running it from the terminal gives:

Note that pygtk is again referenced. The weirdest part is that other program that's having this issue, an IM client called emesene, is one that I had been using just fine, without issue, for several sessions previous. Since trying to play that .mp3, it now won't run at all. I tried removing and re-installing emesene, to no avail. Running it from the Terminal gives:

This time the missing module is gtk, but I know that emesene is written in Python, which the earlier "pygtk" is perhaps a reference to. Thus, the connecting thread between all these programs, as near as I can tell, is Python.
Programming :: Python Gconf Not Working When Ran As Root?

Ubuntu :: Simple Python Script Not Working Properly
Apr 27, 2010Trying to learn python. Going well, but I have run into a minor speed bump. I wrote a simple program to see if Python was set up correctly. Wouldn't you know it, the thing pops open and then closes again. I put raw input fields there to stop the program, but they didn't work. The program is:

Feb 11, 2011I am trying to install vodafone mobile connect 2.10 (noarch.rpm) but keep getting a python = 2.6 is needed by python-sq*. I had Python 2.6 installed and upgraded to 2.6.6, but still got the error. What could I be doing wrong or what repositories are short on my openSuse 11.0 to have the installation work. First, I install the Editra
sudo apt-get install Editra - success ,its version is 0.5.30
Second, I run it in Terminal
Editra - it can work,but with the error infos "(python:1682): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_add_accelerator: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed"
Third, I used command line "dpkg -L Editra", and found that the Editra is installed under /usr/share/pyshared/Editra,so i created the .desktop like this

Debian :: Python-pkg-resources Returns Error Code
Apr 9, 2010The system is Debian Squeeze/Sid with apt.conf set to Squeeze as the default. Most packages are from Squeeze.
I ran apt-get upgrade and it returned an error-code.
It might be it is this bug: Bug#574153: python-pkg-resources: Missing file leaves it unconfigured
I tried aptitude install -f, to hold it and to remove the package python-pkg-resources, but i am getting told the package would be in a very bad stage, and i should re-install it. That doesn't work.
Software :: OpenShot - Invalid Python Installation Error
Jul 25, 2010I'm trying to install Openshot 1.1.3. from source on Mandriva 2010. I don't understand what else I should do apart from the command "sudo python setup.py install", but clearly this isn't enough, because I get the following error message:

I've put the tarball at /usr/share/openshot-1.1.3. According to Software Management, I have python2.6 installed (and the other dependencies mentioned in the README), but what do I know. (I tried using an RPM file from rpm.pbone.net [URL], but that didn't work out either, I don't know whether this is the easier route or not.)
Programming :: Python Script Gives Error - Broken Pipe
Jul 21, 2011I am building a python script which works same as SMTP protocol. I have build separate functions in that for each command of SMTP, and after this i have integrated all those functions in a new function named as send_mail(so that i don't have to execute every function separately for every command). Now, when i execute the script for the first time it runs successfully, but for the second time it gives the error of "BROKEN PIPE". I really can't make out how the socket is getting closed.
