Fedora :: Geany + Gvfs + F13 When Try To Save, It Saves Empty File?
Aug 11, 2010
after update f12 to f13 geany stopped to work correctly on remote storage (sftp). Geany opens file correctly, but when I try to save, it saves empty file. I tried "notepad" and "gedit", they work good on f13. Geany on f12 worked correctly too.
I recently upgraded to Squeeze and in general I'm loving it.One problem I'm having is that I can no longer open remote files via SCP/SSH using GVFS from Geany. This functionality still works in gedit.I've checked the syslog and can see no clues, and I also can't find any references on Google.
I've been using ubuntu earlier and when connecting to a samba shared folder it appeared in /home/user/.gvfs folder. I can browse the samba share, it's ok, but I prefer Midnight Commander than Nautilus when copying files. So, where does it reside in Debian?
Recently upgraded to F12. K3B can't burn DVDs. Drive was working fine in Fedora 10 before the upgrade, and I've applied all updates.
Here is the output when run from console:
Code:
lsof: WARNING: can't stat() fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon file system /home/SlowCoder/.gvfs Output information may be incomplete. (K3bDevice::HalConnection) unlock queued for /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_DVD__RW_GA10N First sec data area: 43:41:33 (LBA 196608) (402653184
When I use nautilus open my home directory, everything is OK except that the file contents in the home directory are not presented. It seems that nautilus is still waiting and busy.
After that, I try to enter the user's home directory by the Terminal and succeed. I can use 'ls' to display the file in the home directory, But when I use 'ls -a' to print the hiden files, again the Terminal seem to be lock. the 'ls -a' is locked, I fail to 'kill' it.
At last, I find that everything that connects to the behavior which need to enter, delete or just dsplay the /home/$USER/.gvfs will fail and lock, and without any error message.
I just came back from a meeting with someone wo wants this functionality:When he saves a file on *his* machine, it will automatically get copied onto a server (this is on an office LAN). This is so if there's a virus attack on his machine, he will have an uninfected backup copy. To make matters worse, the client machines will be WINDOZE. Apparently he's seen this kind of functionality at an office somewhere (he was saying something about "Microsoft" , but my brain has erased that part of the conversation ), and now wants it for himself.
I was thinking about Samba obviously, but the tricky part is doing the copying when the user *saves* a file. This will require hooks into the OS to see when a file is being saved.*If* I manage to persuade him to switch his client machines to Linux (which would be the ideal choice and make life far easier), how would it be done? I'd have to use the File Alteration MOnitor in the kernel, right?Would it be possible to write the copying code in a shell script?
I am a final year student doign Computer systems engineering and just been introduced to linux. While still strugling to catch up with the commands, I am now given an assignment under shell scripting.I seriously am strugling to understand this question, can you please assist me.Here follows the assignment:

Why do I keep getting .gvfs (gnome virtual file system) file appearing as corrupt in /~/usr directory, I can get rid of it by unmounting, but it re-appears later on. It is causing problems as it interrupts my backups (which are automated) with an error message,ListError .gtk-bookmarks/.gvfs [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/home/jimt/.gvfs'
It's a few days now that I notice everytime I save a page in Firefox, only the .html file is saves, and firefox does not make a folder associated with the page in which it saves the images, etc..Could this be because I installed TOR and the TORBUTTON for firefox?I have, however disabled the TORBUTTON addon from Firefox, and restarted the browserbut the problem persists.
I have setup a local repository containing several .rpm files. I created a comps.xml file outlining the category and groups for the local repository. However, when I issue the yum grouplist command, I get the following error:
Failed to add groups file for repository: localRepo - comps file is empty/damaged
However, if I try to install one of the the packages in the repository, it works just fine.
Here are the steps I took to create the repodata:
The comps.xml and repository are stored in the directory: /var/www/html/myrepo/x86_64 cd /var/www/html/myrepo/x86_64 createrepo -g comps.xml .
I just installed FC10 and then used yumex to install the vsftpd FTP daemon package. I'm using the vsftpd.conf file that came with the distribution, and its almost identical to one I copied from my FC2 machine's working set-up. When I try to FTP in as a known system user I'm presented with my home directory /home/myusername/. The directory appears empty to the FTP program, but isn't in reality. I can't upload a file to the empty home directory. I can move up the directory hierarchy to /home/, but again that appears as an empty directory.
I don't think it's a vsftpd.conf file issue. I've tried everything I can there. Could it have something to do with permissions? I fiddled with those, but couldn't make an FTP directory listing work.
I have a UUID file that has grown to 8.4 gigs... and I don't know what to do. Its sucking up all the free space in the partition. I guess I will have to delete the file but I don't know how to do it properly.I suspect this is a backup of all the data I have been moving around between drives recently.
As stated , gvfs is extremely slow when browsing smb shares.Mount cifs runs in a third of the time gvfs takes.Often gvfs hangs up while listing.I've searched and see tons of noise about it but no real signal.Does anyone here have any info on gvfs as to why it's so slow browsing?"Name : gvfsArch : x86_64Version : 1.6.2"

I just converted to Fedora from Ubuntu and I have some questions: 1. How can I install nvidia driver? There is no 'jockey-gtk' in my fedora :3 (video card is nvidia 7200GS) 2. whats the equivalent for 'ubuntu-restricted-extras' in fedora? (ubuntu-restricted-extras is a package for A/V codecs, Java, microsoft fonts and Flash plugin) 3. I just move data from other hard disk to the fedora ones and now all the folders are locked (lock icon).
I try with: su chown -R fedora:fedora /home/fedora but the permissions are denied for gvfs.
I installed Fedora 12 x64. Now everytime I start my Linux the .gvfs directory in my /home/Razorblade -dir is corrupted. So I have to reboot and start an Linux LiveCD, mount my home partition and delete this folder. After that I can login normally. Symptoms: I am able to login normally, start a browser, start my mail client, list the contents of subfolders of /home/Razorblade/... - everything fine. But as soon as I want to list the contents of my /home/Razorblade folder - nothing but this turning blue thing around the curser. The command line does nothing after "ll /home/Razorblade", sometimes even crashes and closes. As root I am able to do "ll /home/Razorblade" And this is what I get:
I have a large file that a process writes to. I would like to empty that file. If I delete it the process will stop writing to it. Just flush the content but keep the file.
I am using ubuntu 10.04 . when i try to compile some C++/C code using geany it suddenly crashes sometimes . I have run geany from terminal and when it crashed it has left.
I just switched to Kubuntu, I'm missing some of my favorite tools - most of which I've found alternatives for. I've read that Geany IDE should run fine on KDE, but when I install and try to launch, it just hangs. The icon bounces around by my cursor like it's loading, and window switcher in the task bar shows it trying to load. And then after about 10sec it just stops - and my screen stares back at me. Here's the output when I try to run it via Konsole:
If for any reason Geany is broken with KDE now, does anyone suggest a better general purpose IDE? All the ones I've found are specific (or at least geared towards) one programming language.
I was copying an .avi file to an external hard drive and half way through the copy the drive reset and required remounting. Consequently I have an empty .avi file on the hard drive. I tried to recopy the file and overwrite, but I keep getting 'Could not write to media/harddrive/filename.avi'. I tried to rename to file to be copied but got the same response, I cannot delete the empty file either, as I get an error telling I cannot delete it. I have tried to do this as the user and root with the same result.Any other file I tried to copy onto the external hard drive is fine, just this one zero length file and the file I was trying to copy, the original of the file. I also tried to delete the file on another computer but couldn'tExternal hard drive is a WD elements ntfs, which works great except for this glitch.
I am using embedded Linux. File open is successful. The file has all the permissions. It is present in current directory too. The size is about 27KB. But s.st_size says it is zero.
Does anybody know why isnt anything on the /var/log/boot.log file. After the boot I saw some services that fail to load and looking for more detail data on the boot.log file I couldnt found anything this file is empty. This is My syslog.conf file:
My employer issues pdf files with everyones work schedules. I copy the content and save it as plain text in a file called unformatted (hope to be able to automate this step someday). Im working on a SED script that reduces unformatted to only display what I want to see and saves the result in a file Iïve named formatted. After that I have to manually copy formatted and save it with that days date as a filename e.g. 2011-02-25 or whatever day is scheduled in the pdf, for use on a mobile device (Nokia N900). I noticed that the date occurs on certain lines in the file so I added a line like:
sed -n 's/^Date: (201[1-9])/([0-1][0-9])/([0-3][0-9]).*/1-2-3/p' < unformatted >theDate That creates a file theDate with the date in it that I wish to use as the filename for this particular instance. So I would like to skip the file formatted all together and have the sed- script write to a new file using the content of the Date as a filename, but how do I make that happen? And of course it would be more elegant if I could skip the intermediate theDate file as well.
