Fedora :: Filter-lists Of The Subscriptions Are Gone On Every Restart
Dec 10, 2009
i have the following problem on FC12 x64, FF 3.5.5.
Since a few days my AdblockPlus AddOn forgets its subscriptions on a FF-restart. I already reinstalled it but no change. My own rules are still there, but the filter-lists of the subscriptions are gone on every restart.

I'm about to make the switch to Ubuntu but what's holding me back is Liferea. From what I've read it's by far the best RSS reader but I'm having three major problems with it...
1) I am trying to get Liferea to download podcasts that I subscribe to. I've set my download folder in preferences, and I've set the feed to automatically download enclosures in the advanced tab of the feed folder. Nothing is downloading, why?
2) I want the 'Unread' search folder to display all feeds from all subscriptions (read or unread) apart from those in the Podcast folder I've created. How do I do this?
3) I read an article in a feed and delete the article. When the feed updates, the article returns - how do I keep it deleted?

I'm using a dual boot system with Fedora and Windows XP. Until a few days ago i could boot in Windows or Linux choosing the option during boot. I have updated Fedora with common updates these days and now i can't boot in Windows anymore, because there are no entry for it anymore to the boot menu.
The graphical boot configuration tool (i'm using Gnome) only lists three different kernel for Fedora but any entry for a Windows partition. Here is how my disk appears:
I'd like to know why this occur and, mostly, which is the most easy way to restore the dual boot

I am attempting to create a form in bash that would display multiple radio lists with an OK and cancel button on the bottom. I tried using the command line tool dialog, which is really nice. But it won't let me do multiple radio lists on the same form.

I have a RHEL 5.3 server attached to an EMC Clariion. There are 24 36gb LUNs presented to my server. I have 4 paths to each LUN. I'm using native Linux multipathing. each LUN shows up 5 times (one for each path, and one for the multipath). I also have two internal logical drives, /dev/sda and /dev/sdb, and I want LVM to see them. I'm trying to get LVM to ignore the individual paths and I need help making my filter statement correct in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf. Here is my filter line:
filter = [ "a/dev/sda/", "a/dev/sdb/", "a/dev/mpath/.*/", "r/.*/" ]
Here are my devices:
# sfdisk -s
/dev/sda: 142737408
/dev/sdb: 71041024
/dev/sdc: 37748736

I am running a basic squid + privoxy combo for web caching/filtering proxy and it works fine. I'm basically running a stock config w/ a few minor edits to allow the relevant hosts access etc.now I am trying to find an easy way to specify privoxy to not filter a specific site (which it breaks). I have tried wading through the privoxy manual + google but I find the config file incredibly complicated. Are there any experts out there who can tell me: what is the easiest way to tell privoxy to 'pass through' a specific website?

I am new to fedora and I've installed fedora 14, I want to know what are the steps to make my machine act as a transparent (IP-less) bridge? Second, after setting the bridge, I want to make all the packets that passes through the bridge execute a servlet filter (to make some tests and add cookies) is it possible? Is there a simpler way to do those tests on the packets and add cookies?

I've been trying for a couple days now to get netem rate limiting to work on a Fedora 12 i686 virtual machine (both on VMware Fusion and KVM), and have had no success. In order to do outbound rate limiting, I want to use the netem token bucket filter (TBF), as described here:[URL]Unfortunately, attempting to use the TBF results in this error:
Code:
[root@f12-build ~]# tc qdisc add dev eth1 parent 1:1 handle 10: tbf rate 256kbit buffer 1600 limit 3000

I came across this feature of the "less" command today. It appears not to be well-documented so I'll share it here. I found that "less" can automatically uncompress compressed files - no need to run the first command, the second does the same job:
Code:
gunzip -c textfile.gz | less
less textfile.gz
Even better, "less" can read and list the contents of some archive files as well, including Tar files compressed using Gzip and Bzip2 as well as Zip files. So now when I want to list the contents of an archive, for example to determine whether the contents will be extracted to an absolute path or relative to the working directory, the following work
Code:
less archive.tar.gz
less archive.tgz
less archive.tar.bz2
less archive.zip
Much easier than remembering the various options that the Tar, Gzip, Bzip2 and Zip use. The best one for me is with RPM archives:
Code:
less some.rpm
The above outputs the Information, Change Log and verbose File List of the RPM (paging the output, of course!) The following commands (using short and long options) give the equivalent output using the "rpm" command:
Code:
rpm -qilvp --changelog some.rpm | less
rpm --query --info --list --verbose --package --changelog some.rpm | less
"less" does not recognise the initramfs file produced by "dracut" (which is a compressed "cpio" archive), but I suppose you can't have everything ...

i'm attempting to know and understand fedora more and i will spend probably the next month pouring through all the forums and documents to answer more of my own questions. but there's quite a bit here, so i'd thought i'd ask some noob questions to get me started a little.
ive installed fedora 14 64bit and chosen only kde as the desktop. i selected an extra 2 repos besides the default, fedora 14 -x86_64 and fedora 14-x86_64 -updates. i believe this kernel is installed: 2.6.35.11-83
1. i can only see the 2 extra repo's as being "checked" in kpackagekit, shouldn't i see the default repo also ?
2. i dont have an applet in the system tray indicating the system is up to date, does fedora have this by default ? also after a clean install i ran yum check-update and yum update but the message sayes: "no packages marked for update". i'm not sure if the system is auto-updated during install or not, but with other distros iv tried there is always atleast a few updates needing to be done after install.
3. is kpackagekit the fedora gui package manager ? i dont see any others.
4. i want to upgrade to nvidia drivers, but i think i am missing a non-free repo or something. when i enter: yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 i get messages stating "no package" i get the same message with yum install nvidia-settings.i also tried this: LANG=C yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree info akmod-nvidia but it sayes repo not found.

I have just finished the upgrade of the latest version and I'm at the point of my system restating.
My system automatically tried to restart but on the restart I got the 'terminal' view. It stopped when asking for my username (it never normally asks for this before the grub menu) and then password. I didn't get any further than that.
I now have on my screen (still in the terminal view before the grub menu)
"name@name-desktop:...$ "
I'm on my phone now so I don't actually have the symbol for before the dollar sign but your know what it is. The raised S on a 90 degree angle.

I have a suspend problem in my laptop. Sometimes, when resuming from suspend, the network adapter is down (that is, the network does not work and the light of the network adapter is off). Restarting the network service doesn't work, because I think that the system forgot about the hardware, and probably the driver should be reloaded.Does anyone knows how to do that?(ps. /etc/init.d/networking restart does not work, because the hardware driver is not being recognized anymore).

Whenever I choose "Restart" from the GDM screen, GDM appears to shutdown, and the first TTY is displayed with a login prompt at the bottom (assuming I haven't used that TTY). I am by no estimation a patient individual, but I waited a solid minute or two for something to happen, but nothing ever did. I end up logging in as root on that TTY and running "shutdown -r now" to get the job done. This is a shared computer, and ideally any user should be able to perform shutdown options graphically from GDM.The only mentioned workaround doesn't apply to me as I am using the nvidia driver, not intel.

1). Since last few days my firefox does not restart. In order to restart, I have to remove .parentlock even when I closed the firefox properly after my previous run
Firefox restarts happily when it crashes, and after two crashes, it apologizes but crashes the third and fourth time :-)
2). The other problem is that it crashes a lot on applets.. I use my school blackboard which uses applets a lot (for different utilities), and it crashes 1 out of 5 times on running an applet. I think it due to the IcedTea and/or Java (TM) plugin 1.6.0_06-b02. I have both plugins enabled in Firefox plugins list.

But lately either after installing an update or making some parameter changes, while restarting my system it just comes up with lots of error messages and crashes. I have to press the switch off button to shutdown. I don't know from where to get that error message to post here

I've just installed F15 graphical desktop on a brand new 64-bit box. When I use the Alt key in the User menu to display the shutdown options and click the "Power Off" option, the box shuts down, but then immediately restarts. Is that supposed to happen? How do I get the box to not restart after powering down? Kernel is 2.6.38.6-26.rc1.fc15.x86_64. The box also auto-restarts after root command shutdown -h now

I remember seeing a thread a while back in which it was stated and a way given to defrag or compress the database that is read before any install is done (forgot the name of the database or where said files are located), but I was wondering if anyone remembers this or has the script that did the defraging available. It made the "reading database" portion of an install zip through rather quickly especially helpful if you have quite a bit installed.

I added this question here since it's kinda more related to S/W then H/W but it all depends on H/W
I added a SATA disk in Fedora 12 but it doesn't show up in the udev list.
Done some googling and most says: 'udevadm trigger' but that won't work.
If I reboot it pops up but is that really the only way?
If I pop the disk in the RAID card it works, but not in the M/B's SATA port,
can it be that the BIOS haven't seen it at boot time?

When I try to logout, it tells that you "will be automaticallyed out after 60 seconds"..and there are two buttons there. one is to "cancel", one is to "logout". Even if I press the logout button, it will logout after only a minute. My question is that how to logout instantaneously (without waiting for 60 seconds). The same problem happens when i try to poweroff or restart the computer. It will do it only after 60 seconds. Who in the world would like a machine which does things according to its wish, rather than execute your command?
