Fedora :: Customize Liveuser Profile In A ReMix?

Jan 12, 2010

modifying the default liveuser settings (IE: ~/.gconf, ~/.mozilla) in a ReMix.

I have been trying to get this working without much luck. I can easily add individual files in a (%post -nochroot) block, but when I try and recursively copy directory structures such as the above, I get masses of errors as GNOME loads.

The UID and GID are correct for the liveuser account, so I don't know what's up. I've tried this method using Sabayon to create the account, and by directly copying the modified (running) liveuser directories to a usb stick then rebooting to do the livecd-creator work.

90% of what I want done can be done inside the (%post) block with echo, cat, sed, awk, and gconftool-2, but for my needs it's easier to simply keep the modified profile handy and copy it to where it needs to be.

Fedora :: Installation Script - Default Configuration Or Customize Settings?

Feb 17, 2011

I was fed up installing Fedora on many of my friend's laptop and doing the same and same thing again. So I've made a Fedora post installation script which does all I want to. Currently the script can:

Add user to sudoers
Configure yum to keep package cache
Fix a problem with Revisor
Add additional repos
Install multimedia codecs
Install flash(32-bit only)
Install wine with gecko,
Install GTalk plugin
Add colors to bash prompt
Add fortune messages to bash prompt
Set SELinux in permissive mode
Install additional softwares

By default, when you run the script, it will ask if you want to accept default configuration or use customize the changes. You can also run ./fedora-firstrun.sh -y to run the script with default configuration. To add yourself to sudoers, run the script as normal user. If you are not in sudoers list, the script will ask you to add to sudoers.

Fedora :: EasyLife Project Vs Russian Fedora Remix?

Feb 19, 2011

First little history here: First tried Suse 7 years ago, or something like that. Not used actually, was collecting dust on second partition. Then after view years switched Ubuntu 5 or 6 or something. Used it for view years on my desctop. Linux only. No dual boot nothing. Then bought a mac mini. Played with OSX for view years. While following lessons of Fedora and CentOS. Then Win7 came out. Used it for view years. To be kind of up to date.

Now:
a view month ago i installed Russian Fedora Remix on a mac. I a sence of completely switching back to linux. I dont want to use OSX for example simply because you get used to what u use. So i tough ill run lets say Fedora on my desktop at home and workstation at work. And surely CentOS on server('s). For glpi for example, or wahtever else. Fog maybe.

The trouble: Ive installed Russian Fedora Remix and then installed EasyLife Project on it. Everything runned fine for view month. Then view weeks ago it stated to refuse to update because of package conflict. On Russian Fedora Remix forum ive got an advise to remove the conflicting package. (Alsa). When i removed it, it removed also one gig dependencies. Now gnome and kde do not log in. Only openbox and enlightenment work. Browsers do not work. And i doubd something else works at all.

THe question: I wondered what are the proc and cons of the RPMFusion enabled by EasiLife project and Russian Fedora Remix repos. Because RFR repos already contain non free codecs and so on. My first tough was that maybe it would be more interesting to use Russian repos because maybe they would be littlebit later in updates. So if an update brakes something. It can be fixed before it was added there. Im Russian by the way, thats why im interested in this version. Althou what is more of concern to me is that RFR contains all the codecs out of the box. For me on the PC its RFR or SuperOS that are interesting. The rest are details. But then, my second though was that maybe RFR might also be kind of purer then EasyLife project. I mean i remember the days when people on Ubuntu forums were against Automatix. Offcourse i expected EasiLife project to be more cosher maybe. Maybe because its fedora finaly not ubuntu. I always tought that fedora forums are kind of more professional but, what is not so good, less friendly compared to ubuntu. Thats was my impression. And also ive been already suggested on the fedora irc to not use easylife project. I actually installed it on RFR mainly because of a habit of installing it on fedora. And because of a theme. But that is not a concern anymore. Cuz ill costumize it anyway.

Fedora :: Include A Profile Pic Within The GUI Login Prompt For 11?

Is there a way to include a profile pic within the GUI login prompt for Fedora 11?

I have the profile pic set in the "About Me" configuration page, and this will show up in my toolbar in the upper right hand corner, but when I log out and go to select my login name from the list of users within the login prompt, I don't see my pic, just the generic user picture.

Is there a way to set this? I have multiple users using this machine. It would be nice if they can just visually scan for their picture to login with.

Fedora :: Missing 5.1 Surround Profile In Sound Preferences?

Oct 26, 2010

I'm trying to get 5.1 surround sound working on my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop running Fedora 13 (64 bit), but there is no option for it under "Sound Preferences - Hardware - Profile". There is an option for "Analog Surround 4.0 Output", which does as it says and uses four of the speakers (front and rear left and right) correctly (and the subwoofer as well I think, though not sure if this is done correctly).Running "aplay -L" gives the following:

Quote:
default
Default
frontARD=Intel,DEV=0
HDA Intel, STAC92xx Analog
Front speakers
surround40ARD=Intel,DEV=0

[Code]...

it looks like it should be possible to set 5.1 surround sound (i.e. I don't think it's a driver issue).Though running "speaker-test -c 6" doesn't quite work as it should - it outputs via the subwoofer on "Center" and doesn't produce any sound on "LFE". But to start with at least - is there a way of manually forcing "Analog Surround 5.1 Output" to be a choice under "Sound Preferences"?

Fedora Installation :: Cannot Login After Placing Java.sh In Etc/profile.d

Dec 25, 2010

I have a new install of F14.

I installed java and now I was to set some environment variables.

So I created a file called java.sh and placed it in /etc/profile.d

I gave the file 755 permissions and made it executable.

When I logged out, to get the changes to take, and try to log back in I cannot.

I enter my user name and password in the greeter, the screen goes black for a moment, and then the greeter comes back. Same if I try to log in as any user, including root. I'm in this endless loop of entering user/pass and then the screen going away for a second and then getting prompted for user/pass all over again.

Ubuntu :: Customize The Installation For Distribution?

Jan 17, 2010

How to customize the Ubuntu Installation for your Distribution - TUTORIAL I have looked a lot in almost every page in Ubuntu, Google and some other Linux Distributions Forums, Help Guides and Tutorials, and have never been able to customize, or even find a valuable source on customzing the Ubuntu Installation, also known as Ubiquity. Now if you are planning on creating a LiveCD or Ubuntu-based Distribution using Remastersys or some program like that, then you will love this tutorial, as do I. First of all, make sure you have Ubiquity installed.Quickly goto Synaptic now, and check. Once you have that, go inside a terminal and type sudo nautilus. Then goto /usr/share/ubiquity. You will see some system files which I will now mention again in this tutorial for the sake of my tiredness.

Here you will see the images that are presented when you select your region in the installation process. You may customize it, but I hardly recemmond it as the areas I tell you to customize are far more rewarding. Now, just go inside the "ubuntu" folder and see the "logo.png". Customize it to have your own Logo and Distribution Name. After you finish that come out of it, all the way back to /usr/share. Now we go inside the big area, where we customize a LOT. Go inside "Ubiquity-Slideshow" folder. In this folder you will see the images and text that pop up during the installation of Ubuntu. Do you remember?

Now just go into Slides/icons and here you will see the beautiful icons of all the slides. You may notice the extroadinary graphics and input the Ubuntu team has put into most of these, and so I have decided not to customize this, but you can surely go ahead. However, for legal sake, I had to customize the logo which I have changed it to be mine (that is I deleted the Ubuntu logo and replaced it with a High-Quality version of my logo). Once you feel you have done enough, please go out of that folder and scroll straight down to customize the writing on the slides in the installation.

Here you will see 13 .html files. HTML is simple, you do not have to know anything in HTML to customize these files, however you must understand to not go out of the boundaries. Stay in the templates, because saying too much will look un-Professional and dodgy when it comes to size issues. I prefer Cutting huge paragraphs of writing in between the "" and starting to type about the subject in My Distributions way. Making sure that I do not exceed the previous 3-4 sentence that Ubuntu already had. Ok, to customize these .html files I will quickly show you one of them and customize it before I fall asleep on my keyboard. Right-click "accessibility.html". Click OPEN WITH and select GEDIT.

You will see something like this, however where it says Gosalia, that is my operating system, it used to say Ubuntu. CAUTION - Do not copy my work, there will be severe consequences, considering I took 5 minutes to write it and the rough work your Operating System installation will look...

Quote:

<h1 class="title">Accessibility in Gosalia</h1>
<div class="main">
<div class="content"><ul>

[code]....

Enjoy, do this to all of them remembering to only write in between the <li> and the </li> Remember one thing, where it says "UBUNTU" you can change it, unless it is a file name, then DON'T CHANGE IT! Oh yes, and now when you create your ISO with Remastersys (or equivalent) then you will have your customized Installation ready in the LIVECD process, check it out! It worked for me, and it is spectacular. Making a Video about this now...
