I have downloaded an application for the sake of Monte Carlo simulation calculations from this link [url] and i discovered that i it didn't work in fedora 14 and it worked in knoppix , and i need it in fedora since my simulation software only works under fedora platform , How to make this tar source installed in fedora 14.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have installed knoppix 6.0.1 persistent to a usb flash drive. I am currently testing it on my laptop and have successfully installed the graphics driver for nVidia Geforce 7150m driver 180.51
All looks great until i restart and it doesnt work again. when i go to reinstall it, it says its already there, but when i open the nvidia-settings, it doesnt look the same as before. If i reinstall it, it works again, until i restart of course.In case this is important, here is how i installed the driver in root terminal:
sudo apt-get install gcc make
init 3
cd /home/knoppix/Desktop
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.51-pkg1.run
(A series of questions come up asking to compile a kernel, etc.)
(install runs)

I am guessing that the new kernel needed for the driver that is installed is not being booted up on when knoppix restarts. I am just unsure as how I can make this kernel accessible at start up or how to start up this kernel again without reinstalling the driver
I was just trying to install some packages at the gpk-application 2.27.2, but they are not compatible. For some reason I can't install anyting. I have Fedora Leonidas. In another forum they told me that my package installer is not the proper for this version

I would like to know if there is a solution to this problem. The multimedia hotkeys (play/pause, stop, volume up/down, volume mute, ecc) stop working when i open any menu (for example mintmenu, that i use, or any menu of firefox like bookmarks) or if i start an application, such as openarena. The major problem is for volumes keys, that stop working in these cases.
Any ideas? I tried to change keyboard model, disable hotkeys mapped in prefereces->keyboard shortcut (with this they just stop working), but nothing changed.
I would like to try to install the nvidia drivers on my F12 box.fter two failed attempts, one of which required me to completely wipe F12 and reinstall (i.e. right royal pain), I would like to be more careful for the next attempt.The problem is that if I try to upgrade to nvidia drivers, and they don't work, I need a way of backing the installation. But, if the driver upgrade fails, then the OS won't boot. I tried going in with a Knoppix live DVD, but it could only access Fedora's /boot partition, not the main OS mounted on /. Therefore, I couldn't change undo the selection of the nvidia driver and back out.The output of mount is:

I've just installed Fedora 10 onto a box which had XP and Knoppix dual-booting. XP is on 1 HDD and Knoppix and Fedora share a second HDD. I installed from Fedora Live CD and accepted the Fedora MBR when it came to that option. I edited the Fedora MBR to show Knoppix residing on /dev/sdb1 (with Fedora on sdb2). XP boots without a problem, however, when I try to boot into Knoppix, I get the message "invalid or unsupported executable format".Following advice in other strings, here is my grub.conf file entry:

I installed Fedora 12 64 bit on my HP dx2255 Desktop. The audio was working fine until I ran "Sound Preferences" application to test Microphone, the audio stopped working and the "Output" tab in "Sound Preferences" application showed "Dummy Output". After restarting the Computer audio started working. All of a sudden it stopped working when I tried to run "Sound Preferences" application to test the Microphone. This happens the same way all the time. I am able to get my audio back without restarting the Computer by running the command "pulseaudio --kill", but still the issue persists. I mean when I try to run "Sound Preferences" application to test Microphone, audio stops working and I have to run the "pulseaudio --kill" command or restart my Computer to get the audio back.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed Fedora 12 on my computer. Earlier I had tried Arch Linux & Linux Mint 7 on the same but on all the three OS's I was unable to get net working. I connect to the net via DSL modem(MTNL BB) & connect it to the PC via ethernet port. Though Fedora 12 shows that the network is connected but I'm unable to browse or chat.
Here is a screensnap of network information;
Pinging google.com returns with an unknown host error while pinging 192.168.1.1 yeilds no results. The cursor gives busy status & upon manually cancelling the ping, I get 100% packet loss. I connect the same modem via USB to my laptop but the internet works fine there.
My wireless adapter stopped working randomly the other day. I think the last time it was working was right before I put the computer into hibernate for the first time. it stopped working even after restarting.modinfo p54usb shows (I'm leaving out information that seems irrelevant because I can't copy and paste without the internet, so I'm typing what I see from another computer)

I basically can't get my mic to work in F12. After several releases fighting with pulseaudio, F11 finally worked almost OBO, after going to system->preferences->advanced sound configuration and setting all the input volumes to the maximum. But now there's no advanced sound configuration tool, and I just can't find anything to make it work. Skype isn't working, nor is gnome-sound-recorder. I do record some static, but nothing more. By the way, I'm on an Acer Timeline 3810T.

Instead I get: "help, remove from panel, lock panel". I dont have this problem with anything else on the top bar.

Turns out I have to install package alacarte and then go to System > Preferences > Main Menu
My webcam was working when I installed Fedora12. But now it doesn't work after about 2 months of playing with this OS. for instance: *.avi, *.mp3 to have the VLC icon
and other application to have the icon of their default application.
So far I only found tips to install single icons or to add icon packs. :S
and is there any way to when you install an application make it default for such file types ?
I can't get the microphone to work in any application (Sound Recorder, Audacity, Skype, etc.) It's been this way for a while and didn't bother me, but now I need to use Skype for work so I desperately need to fix this over the weekend. I checked the Comprehensive Sound Guide, but couldn't find an answer there. As far as I know, my ALSA is up to date (I had to update it to get the sound working at all).On a MSI Wind Desktop with 10.04, if that makes a difference.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a free image stacking application in Linux. I do a lot of macro work and I even use stacking for larger pieces of work as well. It allows me to create a better, larger DOF than you would normally get with a Macro lens, which tends to be shallow. If you have never heard of stacking images it is like stitching images together for a panorama image. Only this works by selecting the sharpest parts of the image. The images are stacked up on top of eachother, the software selects the sharpest parts of each image and the joins them all up making your object hopefully sharper. You need a tripod to do this work.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a hda-intel soundcard which is working perfectly with alsa on Kubuntu 10.4. The only problem is the microphone.
Apparently I am not able to make it capture any sound or the sound is horrible:
- it works only in QArecord after I check the "Capture" checkbox.
-it doesn't work at all for Flash even if I Allow Flsh to use my mic
-it doesn't work at all for vmware player (I have a winxp guest os)
-in Skype for Linux it works only if I set Microphone boost to 100%, but the sound is too weak and distorted.
In alsa mixer I have enabled all 3 Capture sliders to 100%, the Mic is at 100%, Input sources are all 3 set up as Mic.
The microphone doesn't work at all for any application if I use FrontMic instead of Mic.
Being able to use the microphone in Skype and VMware player is very important to me and it's the only thing keeping me from using linux as my main OS.
Note: I have tried Slackware and I have the same issues there too.
So I am using Komodo edit, and it thinks that my current directory is /home/username1/ Yet my files are in /home/username1/workspaces/ruby/project1
Why won't Komodo recognize that my working directy is that of the current file? Same with situation when I use Komodo Edit to launch a command ("ruby [complete path+file name]"), ruby can't find its require dependencies unless I give a complete path because it too seems to think it is working out of /home/username1/

View 8 Replies View RelatedI need to be able to open an openGL based piece of software remotely (like Maya or 3D Studio Max, for example). The server will be a linux machine (CentOS, currently, fwiw), but the client should be able to run on at least Linux and Windows. This will happen over the internet as opposed to over a LAN.
So far, I've tried
- "NoMachine NX" which is pretty good, but it seems to have some issues with GL. Maybe this can be fixed in xorg on the server (disabling overlays or something like that)? not sure.
- HP Remote Graphics Software (RGS) which works fairly well with Cent & Windows, though is sometimes a little slow. It also doesn't seem to be happy on Ubuntu, which is a pretty big bummer. It's also a bummer that it's somewhat expensive. That said, it's still the front-runner.
- VNC which was very slow.
It's imperative that it can transmit very complex rendered OpenGL properly. It's ok if it's slow to tumble/refresh, but it should be correct.
I installed 11.4 and it seems to be working fine. To run few windows application I need WINE. I installed WINE using YAST Software Manager. But when I install application in WINE it's not working correctly. The same application is working fine in MINT/WINE.

I am using Opensuse 11.4 with KDE Version 4.7.1 and kernel 2.6.37.6-0.7-desktop on an Acer TravelMate 4200.I updated my system yesterday and since that update the default Application Launcher for KDE is not working, when you click on the launch icon you get the "Kickoff Application launcher" balloon dialog but nothing else happens. A sort of a work around for this issue is that I have found when the application launcher is switched to Classic Menu Style then the classic menu works without any problems. I would however like to use the default launcher and not the classic one as it has so much more functionality and is easier to use and navigate

I have installed the same application on my brand new laptop running Ubuntu 11.04 and it was running perfectly until yesterday. Yesterday it hung during the startup and since I killed the hung process it has refused to start again. If I now run it in a terminal using the command
