Fedora :: Wireless Won't Connect After Today's Updates?
Oct 23, 2010
I did a "yum update" today. I love how every time, it's like a waiting game to see what broke.Anyway, aside from a weird Nvidia issue that doesn't concern me, the most noticeable problem is that my wireless will NOT connect to my WPA2 network. This laptop is the only machine that changed. The other laptops and wireless devices (smartphones, etc) didn't change. It sees all of the available wireless networks. It attempts to connect, but never does. After a short period of time, a dialog box appears, stating that authentication is required... The password is correct, it just won't connect. Here's a copy of the Yum log... I do see that NetworkManager has been updated, along with the kernel being updated.*sigh*
Code:
Oct 23 14:57:23 Updated: kernel-headers-2.6.34.7-61.fc13.i686
Oct 23 14:58:32 Installed: kernel-devel-2.6.34.7-61.fc13.i686

Using ubuntu 9.10 Karmic 64 bit
Firefox version: 3.6.9 Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu canonical - 1.0
about:config is default
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.9) Gecko/20100825 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.6.9
When I access some websites, especially certain forums or atempt to post, the tab seems to be loading but doesn't do anything. If I then exit firefox I cannot ping anything (IP or address) in terminal. If I then open Epiphany it fixes everything until firefox next does this. This is happening from 1 - 10 times an hour and is starting to get to me.

Connected to wireless and set home router as auto/default (internet works)
Installed large Ubuntu update package
Restarted and wireless is disabled (ATT uverse w/ 2wire 3800HGV-B router)
Wireless now consistently works with Vista and not Ubuntu ("wireless disabled")

I have 3 Dell Precision M4400 machines. After getting updates yesterday or today, I get random network dropouts like crazy, on wired or wireless. On one machine I was able to turn off ipv6 in grub and reboot, and it works now. However on the other 2 machines, still have the same problems. All 3 are running 9.10 64 bit. Is there a way I can back out the updates so the network works again? Anyone else see this behavior after updates today?

I've FC10 installed. After updating a few days back, I'm unable to use Network Manager to connect to the net through my USB Modem. All the threads I've read say to do
Code: yum update NetworkManager but how can I do it without net connection? Can anyone post the exact link of the Network Manager's latest and BUG-FREE rpm so that I can directly run it?

I am having a little trouble connecting to my wireless network. Running Fedora 10 32 bit.I'm trying to connect to a hidden wireless network. I updated the firmware for my driver but apparantly the driver is still not working. Broadcom has a driver from their website for Linux 32 bit systems. Should I attempt to install it? I read a post where the driver is built into the system kernel. If so I would need to blacklist the one of the drivers. Correct?

I installed some updates this morning to my F14-64 system. Both Thunderbird and Thunderbird-lightning were updated. Now, Thunderbird won't start at all. The process is running, but no window ever appears. The only thing I've tried at this point is running 'thunderbird -safe-mode' from the command line to disable all plugins, but the result is the same as just running 'thunderbird' -- it just hangs. It doesn't *appear* to be a plugin problem

I made a new install to F14 but am not able any more to connect to my wireless. It is configured exactly the same way as it was under F12 previously (WPA2 etc.). Clicking on the the connection/network icon in the top bar, it shows only the wired network option and this one also only when the cable is connected.

I installed Fedora 13 from the KDE live cd on it's own partition. My router was recognized and the networkmanager applet in the panel shows signal strength is nearly 100%. At boot, the networkmanager is in a constant state of "configuring connection" and the password window pops up three times. I click ok each time and then the icon changes to "network unavailable", that looks like an ethernet cable unplugged. Wired ethernet works fine. The rt2800 module is loaded for my wireless g/n card.

I've just installed fedora 10 on my Dell Inspiron 1525, and I can't connect to my wireless net. I know how to manually enter the SSID (and have no clue what a BSSID is), MAC address, and I know it's infastructure (well, it's not ad-hoc, so it must be).
The problem is, my router uses a 64-bit encryption protocol, and there's no '64-bit' key option under Wireless Security's dropdown. Is there any way around this, aside from either changing the encryption protocol, or plugging it in manually (neither of which are options)?

When I try to connect to any Wireless Networks in Fedora, the option at the top of the screen is grayed out. I can only connect to VPN, a hidden network, or create a new wireless network. My wireless works fine on the Vista side, so I am a bit confused at this

I am trying to connect to a wireless internet but can't. I previously used linux ubuntu and my wireless card worked. I am guessing that it should work with fedora then too. Is that correct? Do you have any suggestions as to what I should do to get the wireless internet working again on Fedora 12? Or what I should do to get usb wireless adapter to work.

I haven't been able to find anything really useful on google either. Was hoping you guys could point me somewhere or explain a process that might work. What I've tried so far is downloading the driver from ralink and trying to follow their procedure for getting it setup. Following the readme I get lost at step 3 and attempting to make it, I get:
[boardbox@niflheim ~]$ cd Desktop/2010_07_16_RT2860_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0
[boardbox@niflheim 2010_07_16_RT2860_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0]$ make
make -C tools
[code]...
but this hasn't fixed my problem either. I can see networks but I can't connect to anything, so kinda still stuck at square one.
EDIT: Turns out in frustration and absent-mindedness I didn't reboot and that fixed it.

I picked up a cheap PC the other day for 20 and it came with a Belkin N Wireless USB adapter. I know the adapter works because Windows XP was originally installed and I could connect with no problems. I wasn't able to connect when I installed Kubuntu so I thought I'd see if I could have any more luck with Fedora....so far, not so good! I realise that this is a fairly common problem, especially for this USB adapter, but I've tried dozens of threads here and elsewhere and still can't get Fedora online.I can see the wireless networks in the list, but if I try and connect then I just repeatedly get asked to enter the authentication details, which I know I'm providing correctly.

Tried to connect to my wireless connection (COMCAST wireless router) and while my card was detected, I couldn't use it ('Network' didn't look for any wireless connections). Manually set up a connection with SSID etc. didn't work. My card's a 3COM with NIC (or w/e) of 3C59x.
I downloaded the driver in patch form, but could not patch (command not found). Well, no internet, so I was wondering how I might get the metapackage base-devel, which should enable this command? Icidentally, I can't use gcc or anything either, so I'm not sure if I can build anything from source..

I need to direction here: my laptop (F10 gnome) is cat5 dhcp connected to a dlink 524 router with IP 192.168.150.1. This in turn is connected to an arris modem with ip 216... Local IP is 192.168.100.1 (default). It works, connects to internet, supplies dhcp address to dlink. All this is upstairs in my ham room upstairs. My wifes laptop downstairs usually connects wirelessly to the dlink, and hence to the arris. Also works to the internet. There is a linksys (ddwrt software) running as a wireless repeater also located downstair, with box ip 192.168.1.1.
It is "joined" to the dlink router via wireless, hence it function, wireless repeater. It works, I have used it like this many time. However, I cannot seem to get a connection to the Brother printer (which has a print server function). It is connected to the linksys repeater via a lan cable. Gets an ip via dhcp. I think it should work, since my wife can connect to the linksys repeater, either wireless or wired, and surf the internet thru the dlink router via the repeater-dlink wireless repeater link. I must be missing something obscure (to me, at least).

I'm running the 64-bit version of Fedora 12 on a MacBookPro5,1 system. I am unable to connect to my wireless network, which shows up in the list of available wireless networks.
I will enter my password and the system will try for several seconds to establish a connection and then fail.
I know the network is fine because I can connect to it when I boot the computer in Mac OS X.
What can I try that will allow me to connect to my wireless network under Linux?

Basically, I just installed Fedora in my desktop (use it on my laptop), and have a big problem, which is that Fedora (13), detects my wireless card (Edimax nMAX EW-7728IN), but when I try to connect to my wireless networks (WEP & WPA) it hangs and asks again for the password. I know the problem isn't from my routers, since I'm right now connected via Fedora 13 in my laptop.
