Fedora :: Windows Time After Rebooting From F?

Mar 26, 2010

I have two dual boot systems, each running Fedora 11 and a version of Windows. When I boot into Windows after running Fedora on either, the Windows time is wrong and I have to reset it. But, if I reboot from Windows into Windows, the Windows time is right . I think this results from different ways Fedora and Linux keepi track of time and what they do to the real time hardware clock.Could someone explain exactly what is going wrong and how I can resolve the problem?

General :: USB Webcam Just Works Once And Next Time Have To Reboot - Reset The Camera Without Rebooting ?

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, and a usb webcam that is shown as 'Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0ac8:3450 Z-Star Microelectronics Corp.' by lsusb.

The problem is that on connecting the cam, it just works with the first program I start (skype, tokbox, messenger), and if I disconnect it or switch to another program, it stops to work and I have to restart my computer to make it work again.

Is there some good solution to reset the camera without rebooting to make it work again?

Ubuntu :: Linux Working Only Rebooting System From Windows XP

Feb 11, 2010

I have noticed that ubuntu 9.10 (but also other distro and in general those that configure the network automatically at startup) crashed if my pc boot directly with a linux kernel at power on.This does not happen if the first boot is done with windows xp and then rebooting the pc and choosing the same linux kernel. Some distro (for example SysrescueCD) that does not configure the network at startup can work but also with these if I try to configure the network using the command ifconfig eth0 the system crashes. My network card is a SiS191 Ethernet and linux recognized it using sis190 module.I suppose that something happen during the first power on, some inizialization done with windows xp but does not done with linux in fact after a reboot made from windows xp without shutdown the pc, with Linux I can configure the network using ifconfig without crash.
Any ideas to solve this without have to boot always windows as first?

Hardware :: HDMI Input Changes To YPbPr When Rebooting From Windows

Apr 11, 2010

I have a weird interaction between Linux and Windows with the HDMI output from my Dell Studio XPS 1645 and a Dell S2409W monitor. Whenever I reboot from Windows back over into Linux, the Input Color Format on the monitor has changed from RGB to YPbPr, and thus the colors are a pink'n'green mess. I can manually change the mode back to RGB but whenever the monitor goes to sleep it will come back as YPbPr! The only way I can fix it is to unplug the power cord and hold the power button for 5 seconds to reset the monitor -- after plugging the power cord back in then the color format will be correct again (RGB.) Or rebooting back over into Windows the color format is correct.

This never happens rebooting from Linux to Linux, Linux to Windows or Windows to Windows -- only from Windows to Linux. This is on Fedora 12 but I don't know that the version particularly matters -- I've only ever used Fedora 12 on this new hardware so I can't say that it does or doesn't work with anything else.

Fedora :: After Rebooting The Old Module Appeared Again?

Oct 24, 2010

About 2 weeks ago i installed ubuntu 10.10 and downloaded fresh network drivers. I ran autorun.sh, the module was compiled and installed, i could see it with lsmod. But after rebooting the old module appeared again, but no file for him were in modules directory because autorun.sh removed old module file. Some time passed and I figured out that it is initrd who is guilty. I couldn't check it because i already deleted ubuntu and installed Fedora 14 Beta. Today i tried to repeat my steps and installed new network module on Fedora. But when i rebooted and started again i was surprised - new module works instead my old one. Everything is fine So, my question, does Fedora use initrd? I saw some files in /boot that which are initrd files (as i think). Or may be not every fedora system uses initrd or something else?

Ubuntu :: Mysterious Windows 7 X64 Crash After Rebooting From Ubuntu 11.04?

May 15, 2011

I've been dual booting Ubuntu based distros and Windows 7 x64 for a couple of years now, but since installing Ubuntu Natty I've been experiencing a strange problem. Every time I reboot from Ubuntu and load Windows, Windows will always crash and reboot shortly after reaching the desktop. This even happens in Safe Mode, but if you simply reload Windows after the crash it works perfectly. The only error report in the event viewer is a kernel-power one stating that the system shut down unexpectedly. I'm not even getting a BSOD.

This only started happening after installing Ubuntu 11.04, but even so I thought this must have been a coincidence up until now. However, after a lot of testing it really does only happen after rebooting from Ubuntu. If I load Windows from GRUB straight after switching my PC on, it works fine. If I reboot Windows after this and boot straight back into Windows, it works fine. I can only assume that Ubuntu is doing something weird to the Windows hard drive without appearing to mount it.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Server Rebooting No Kernel Panic Halt?

May 14, 2010

We have a server running CentOS 5 Linux 2.6.18-128.1.16.el5xen #1 SMP Tue Jun 30 06:39:23 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU Linux. We've seen at random times that the server will just reboot and nothing is logged in messages. I tried to enable kdump but was only able to get a 5.4 gig dump since our /var directory is set to 10GB. Here is the messages I see before and after the server restart. I had thought that when a kernel panics, it is supposed to halt the system and not reboot it. My /proc/sys/kernel/panic is set to 0. I can run an update but want to have some sort of idea what is causing the issue and if the update will fix anything.
