"Sleep" is not supposed to permanently kill off the network service. restarting the NetworkManager / network services DOES NOT WORK. Why this blatent and crippling bug is allowed tp persist? I dont want to "rasberry reboot" like windows, this has been the only forced reboot

I started to see (or actually not see) that after resume from sleep the mouse cursor will disappear. It is there, just not work showing. If i click on left click on the desktop I get the menu, I can also "see" going over windows from time to time as I move it. It won't even spin down HDDs.There are no profiles in KDE power settings and I can't create any - create button works, but 'new profile' dialogue does not actually create any profiles.This is a brand new default install of F14 on AMD 890 chipset.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am sick to the back teeth of fedora 11 Every time I try and run yum for any install at all it just keeps saying segment fault. When I have tried installing mysql it keeps coming up with the same fault yet again segment fault. I even get this stupid error when trying to install postgresql:

Its got nothing to do with my connection at all keeps happening at home, work when I use my vmWare server, I have a netinstall of FC10 so I am going back to that.
If anyone can help me in using a better method of making yum work, then thats brilliant but one final try and one error I am going back, this is a major rant as I am working for clients now and this just isnt suitable, if FC10 does this then I am going to a different dist like CentOS or something more robust as this is just rediculous!
It appears that /etc/resolv.conf back to default everytime I reboot my computer.I've added these 2 lines to resolve some DNS issue.Quote:

ubuntu 10.04. My computer is left on all the time. My computer's screensaver comes on 10 minutes after last keystroke. Which is fine. However, when I return to use the computer and disengage the screensaver, ubuntu ALWAYS requires my password to continue. How do I stop ubuntu from asking me my password everytime I wake my computer up?

The specs aren't the greatest (Pentium II processor, 94 MB RAM, and an 8 GB HDD). I chose AntiX 8.0 as my OS. Anyways, I got through the installation just fine, but when it said "Try rebooting your computer without the CD"...So I did, and what happened? I got that error. I've tried rebooting with different Live CDs to no avail. Is there anything I can do to get back up and running?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI added an ext4dev filesystem to my hard drive as /dev/sda3 and mounted at /share with the goal of putting all of my multimedia files on it and sharing it through NFS. I followed this guide: [url]
Of course, this was from lenny (hence the -dev). The partition was fine, and I mounted it numerous times. I also performed a dist-upgrade to squeeze. I shutdown that computer with the usual 'shutdown -h now' and disconnected the AC power cord from it, because I wasn't planning on using that machine for awhile. As far as I could determine, everything was fine before I unplugged it.
Every time that computer is powered off, the clock resets to 1999 because the battery is bad. So I am used to getting the "last mount time is in the future" error.
Three weeks after halting, I powered the computer back on. It was unplugged until this point. I got an error message when it attempted to mount /dev/sda3
I then removed its line from /etc/fstab, rebooted. and tried to check it, but I just keep getting the same error-- even with the '-b 8193' option.
The machine is still using the 2.6.26 kernel from lenny. I am building a new one right now (2.6.30), hoping that the problem is caused by the ext4dev/ext4 module. Otherwise I don't know what to do.

What is this error and how can i fix it,because every time im re booting my server i lost my network config.
When ever my computer goes to sleep it becomes unresponsive. No mouse or keyboard click wakes it up. The only thing I can do is press the power button which makes it completely reboot. This is killing my productivity. Anyone have any tips on how to make this function correctly?

I have Ubuntu 9.1 with wubi and Vista on my laptop. I was playing my laptop through the TV, then I tried to switch it back to computer control and the computer went black. I had to hold to power button to restart, and suddenly grub4dos starts up when I try to launch ubuntu. I can still launch Vista. Is there anything I can do to save my system? At the very least, I would like to be able to copy data from my ubuntu system to my vista system. How can I do that? I can't find C:/ubuntu/disks. It doesn't seem to exist.
The question is instead of shotgunning the problem should I start with replacing the hard drive or the motherboard or the processor. Is there a way to tell what is blown? The house took a direct hit and most electronics were fried. The main problem is that I set the computer to never go to sleep and it does every few minutes and I have to log back on quite often. Several games no longer play or just quit in the middle of the game and sends me back to the desktop. I haven't tried to do everything yet so I don't know of other problems. I don't have a lot of extra money so I only want to replace what I have to. The computer is a Dell Inspiron with 2.5 Gb processor and an Nvidia card ordered from Dell with Ubuntu 10.4 installed.

Is there any Linux equivalent? Or some "magic packet" that can order the Win7 computer to sleep.I know I could install a SSH daemon and trigger a shutdown command from the Linux box using ssh, but ideally I do not want to install anything on the Win7 computer. Unfortunately it would seem that it puts the computer to sleep despite Deluge being active. No biggie I thought, I'll just disable the sleep settings my setting them both back to NEVER. However, it ignores my new settings and still puts the display / computer to sleep, at the exact times I set originally!

I have a wireless USB Microsoft keyboard attached to this, and I have a cheap USB infrared remote also attached to it.The wireless USB Microsoft keyboard can wake up the system from suspend. The USB infrared remote cannot.To start off, I made sure my /proc/acpi/wakeup had wakeup enabled for all usb devices.

We have two Sangoma U100 products connected to our Acer Aspire Revo 360 (runs on Atom board). The Sangoma USB units provide connectivity to PSTN. Occassionaly and probably in a pattern they have failed every monday for the past month or so.
This is the OS version of CentOS I am running: Linux pbx.local 2.6.18-194.8.1.el5 #1 SMP Thu Jul 1 19:07:06 EDT 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I am wondering if this is a driver issue, ACPI sending computer or ports to sleep, or if it's something else? Is there any way to find out which device/event caused Ubuntu (10.10) to wake up from the most recent sleep/hibernation? I am trying to troubleshoot some sleep issues on a new box, and knowing what's causing it to wake up would help. Also in powermanagement I have it set up so that the screensaver kicks on at 3 minutes after movie, screen shutsdown after 5 minutesand the computer should be put to sleep after 30 minutes. View 3 Replies View Relatedafter totem is done playing a movie from my external harddrive ( usb 2.0 750 gb Western Digital HDD) the computer screen will go blank but the computer will not suspend or hibernate. I have gnome-power-manager to go to suspend after 30 min of inactivity. I will usually fall asleep during the movie and the laptop will remain on. I will wake up to find the laptop on for the whole night and that it didn't go to sleep or suspend power after the movie stopped. Note ** I have already tried reinstalling gnome-power-manager & totem ... Also have turned on and off Dbus plugin, and totem is not set to always on top.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI left the Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid installation cd I burned in the drive and rebooted the remote machine. Now I cant get it on VNC or ping it by name. But the IP it had before still replies to pings. When I check the DHCP database in Windows Server 2003, that IP's machine name is now "ubuntu", not the same as before. Does this sound like what a machine would do when that cd is left in the drive on a reboot?
