Fedora :: Unable To Open Volgroup00?

Sep 11, 2010

I Made a fresh Installation of Fedora 13. It shows VolGroup00 and File System in the Computer on desktop.

The size of the hardisk is 160gb. The file system shows some 4gb. I'm not able to open the Volgroup00. On double clicking it it shoes the error "Unable to mount location"

on entering fdisk -l,

It says the partiton one /dev/sda1 did not end on cylinder boundary.

The partition /dev/sda1 ends on Cylinder 63 and the emaing LVM partition also starts on Cylinder 63.

I tried reinstallling after dropping both the partiotions 4 times, but this is always the case.

Fedora Installation :: I2O Controller - No Volume Groups Found Volume Group "VolGroup00" Not Found Unable To Access Resume Device

Apr 8, 2009

Dual PII 400, 512Mb with a Promise SuperTrak 100 IDE Array Controller. At present I have only one drive on the controller, configured for 1 JBOD array. I install FC9 with no problem. New partition is created and formatted, Grub is installed, and then... Grub is found and booted, but then I get:

Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while... No volume groups found Volume group "VolGroup00" not found Unable to access resume device (/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01) mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root' I can boot in rescue mode, chroot to the installed system. Installation :: FC10 - Volume Group "VOLGroup00" Not Found - Unable To Access Resume Device

Feb 2, 2009

I already know "what" my problem is, however I am having difficulty fixing it. I recently upgraded our companies server to a HP ML150; decided to upgrade to FC10 hoping it would go smooth and it is not. It does not detect the SATA drives after the installation.

I get.

"Volume Group "VOLGroup00" not found
Unable to access resume device (/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01
mount: error mounting /dev/root on /sysroot as ext3: No such file or directory

I know the problem is that my SATA is not enabled in the kernel or grub, but I don't know how to fix this. My internet searches are coming up a little short and LIVE discs are not working so I am having trouble figuring this out.

Fedora :: Volume Group "VolGroup00" Not Found - Froze Archive Drive

Nov 13, 2009

I have a dual boot system running FC8. I had a problem with an uninstaller on the Windows side that affected both the drives on the Windows and Linux sides. It froze my Linux archive drive. I removed the drive, and was able to boot the Windows side from a recovery disk, but not through Grub. I can't access Grub, but can start the Linux boot process with SuperGrub. The boot process gives the following errors:

No Volume groups found. Volume group "VolGroup00" not found. mount: could not find file system 'dev/root'.

Fedora :: Unable To Open The Session

Feb 1, 2010

Just installed Fedora 12 on a P4 IBM. Everything installed fine. Then, I rebooted, installed updates, and installed a few simple programs (emacs, ssh server). I rebooted since some kernel updates had been made. I can't login anymore. I get a brief message at GDM that says "unable to open session" after I enter my password. Root also doesn't work, but I figured out that root logins are disabled. I found something that recommended disabling selinux, so I reboot with selinux=0 parameter. That still didn't fix the problem, but did initiate selinux to re-label everything on the next boot.

My next thought was that maybe my password got corrupted, so I went into single usermode. I ran passwd justin, so I know that my password is correct. I still can't login via GDM or on a tty.

EDIT: I was also thinking I might need to uninstall something that I did; however, networking is disabled in single usermode, and if I init 3, then I get a login prompt that I can't open. Is there a way that I can enable root login? That might be a starting point to see if it's my user account or a general login problem.

General :: VolGroup00 Not Found After Moving To 3ware 9650SE

Mar 5, 2010

I wanted to take a current system with a working CentOS 4.7 LVM and move it to a 3ware 9650SE raid card so that I can mirror the drive and have a RAID1. The current system has 2 hard drives. One hard drive contains the CentOS 4.7 LVM install and the second drive is not part of the LVM. The second drive is being used for basic backups. I took a copy of the OS HD using dd and confirmed it worked by booting it up with the hard drive on the motherboard. When I connect it to the 3ware raid card with a new hard drive for the RAID1 and configure the 3ware raid card for RAID1, I get the "Volume Group "VolGroup00" not found" error. It gets past grub and then starts to load up but that is when the error occurs.

The error message exactly is:
Making device-mapper control node

Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...
No volume groups found
Activating logical volumes
Volume group "VolGroup00" not found
ERROR: /bin/lvm exited abnormally! (pid 461)

Fedora :: Unable To Open Login Screen

Oct 14, 2009

I clean-installed Fedora 11 and everything was running well. I wanted to try Bacula backup program and so I installed the Development package in other to compile Bacula. When I finished the installation, I discovered a bunch of foreign language supports had been installed. I just erased them. While doing so, I must have also erased some other files.

When I rebooted, the bootup process went well until just before the login screen. The screen showed the Fedora logo, f, and got stock there. I was able to login remotely from another local network computer via vncviewer. I found that GNOME dsktop was missing. I logged on to Fedora 11 text mode by issuing CTL+ATL+F3 and did 'yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment" By remote login from another computer, I determined that the GNOME Desktop had been restored. But the Fedora 11 still stil stuck just before the login screen. What do you think is missing? What do I need to reinstall?

CentOS 5 :: CentOS5 With Clustered Lvm2 : Not Booting Anymore (VolGroup00 Not Activated)?

Sep 13, 2010

I "inherited" a cluster of 2 systems with XenCluster, based on CentOS 5.5. About five weeks ago I ran the (long overdue) yum update, which crashed in the middle of updating on both nodes, so I had to reinstall all those packages by hand and had to re-enable their startup. So both systems are already in the not-ideal state.

One system rebooted itself during my absence and now won't boot anymore. It seems to boil down to clustered lvm not being activated in the initrd and therefore no VolGroup00 available, which contains the root. The other volume group has good reasons to be clustered but the root does not need to be. But I can't fix it from a rescue CD, every time the error comes up that the volume group is clustered. The exact error display at boot is at

http://people.cs.uu.nl/koos/screen-20100913140414.png

what do I do to either fix the startup to ignore VolGroup00 being clustered OR change the status of VolGroup00 to non-clustered?I notice the other system has this too so my best guess is that I'll have the same problem in a bigger way when this system reboots too. Hoping for no power failures...Relevant versions of stuff:

centos 5.5
kernel 2.6.18-194.11.1.el5xen
mkinitrd-5.1.19.6-61.el5_5.2
lvm2-2.02.56-8.el5_5.6
lvm2-cluster-2.02.56-7.el5_5.4

(from the still running system)

Fedora Installation :: Installing XEN With 11 - Unable To Open Connection To Hypervisor URI 'xen:///'

Jun 19, 2009

I have been only using the free vmware server thus far for my virtualization I have recently installed Fedora 11 and am currently looking at using the XEN virtualization software. I am currently running and upgrade from F10 to Fedora 11 with the PAE kernel. Also I am using KDE 4 with kmod-nivida drivers. Now here is what I have done

To install Virtualization requirements I did the following: sudo yum groupinstall 'Virtualization'

I then also did: sudo yum install kvm qemu libvirt python-virtinst

I then installed xen:
sudo yum install xen*

Now, I read that i needed "kernel-xen" but it doesn't appear to exists a "yum list kernel*' only displays kernel packages and the kernel PAE pakages so I figured I don't need it I then started all the xen services and libvirtd service Opened virt-manager and added a new connection: hupervisor: Xen and connection: local

I get the following error: Unable to open connection to hypervisor URI 'xen:///': <class 'libvirt.libvirtError'> unable to connect to 'localhost:8000': Connection refused
None

I guess my question now is... what is the difference between the hypervisor: QEMU/KVM and XEN. Because I seem to be able to create a VM using this. My VM is an XP vm for work purposes to run some windows only software I would like to use XEN as I just have my mind set on it but I might just be ignorant and on the wrong track is there a how to guide for fedora 11 and xen? the fedora 7 guide i found needs the kernel-xen installed.

Fedora Servers :: Sendmail[31427]: Unable To Open Berkeley Db /etc/sasldb2: Unknown Error 13

I've been using cyrus and sendmail together for a very very long time now. Just recently I upgraded to fedora 13 and now my virtual users can not send email from the /etc/sasldb2 passwords. I get in the /var/log/messages sendmail[31427]: unable to open Berkeley db /etc/sasldb2: Unknown error: Its weird that they can still log in and get email from imapd.conf

[code].....

I even tried re-creating sasldb2 and sasldblistusers2 shows my two users 'one' that is also a local user account and the saslauthd authenticates when sending emails, but the virtual user 'two' can't send just only can log in to receive. /etc/sysconfig/saslauthd is set up as mech=pam. but I don't see how that would be relevant to this issue.

CentOS 5 :: Volume Group "VolGroup00" Not Found

Sep 29, 2009

This is my development virtual machine, I had Centos 5.3 on it and a lot of stuff I really can't afford to lose.

First off I'd like to say if there is any method anyone knows of recovering information off a VMWare disk, I'd love to trash it. I've already tried the drive mapping in VMWare workstation but only the boot partition comes up and I need /home and /etc.

I was screwing around with the LVM size of the disk and totally screwed it up. I can see the two partitions on /dev/sda, /dev/sda1 as the small partition and /dev/sda2 as my large data partition (the one I need access to).

If anyone could guide me into getting my data off or rebuilding my LVM to get it booted again that'd be amazing.

OpenSUSE :: VirtualBox 4.0.8 Unable To Open VMs?

May 24, 2011

However, I do not consider myself a Linux pro - I hardly ever use the command line etc.

I have been using the Free personal version of VirtualBox for about 3 or 4 years and have had no problems in any version of OpenSuse (at least none that were not easily fixed). I upgraded to OpenSuse 11.4 several weeks ago and cannot get Virtualbox to work. I have tried installing from the opensuse 11.4 package on the VBox site and I have run their generic command line installer and either way I am unable to open my VMs.

When I used their generic installer I got the following errors:
linux-evl8:/home/frank/Downloads/VBox # ./VirtualBox-4.0.8-71778-Linux_amd64.run

Uncompressing VirtualBox for Linux installation...........

I did a reinstall of OpenSuse for several reasons and it is working great in everyway except I am still having this issue and at this point I am lost as to what to do next.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: VLC Is Unable To Open The MRL ?

Just switched to openesuse and kde enviroment few days ago, and now I'm snooping around etc.

Anyway I'm having this problem, I'm running a file server at home for my video, data, music and so on. I've used ubuntu untill now (server is also running ubuntu), and I've used vlc to watch the files directly from the server, I never had any problems with it until now (in ubuntu gnome). I navigated with nautilus to a location on the server double clicked and the video opend in my local vlc. Now I'm getting the tittle error, using opensuse 11.2 kde 4 and dolphin. Also I'm told to check the log...

While back I installed dolphin in my gnome on ubuntu, and i remember I got the same error when i tred to open the file on a server and tried to play it in vlc tru dolphin. So...Is this a known issue? Could this be related to dolphin/kde? Where is the vlc log file in opensuse 11.2? Where can I find some workarounds or something?
