OpenSUSE Install :: Cannot Open ConsoleKit Session: Unable To Open Session
Apr 11, 2010The following message comes up when I boot up: Logging in user Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 0. When I press OK, the system completes the start up and everything looks normal. But when I try to connect to internet, I get the following message:
KNetworkManager cannot start because the installation is misconfigured. System DBUS policy does not allow it to provide user settings; contact your system administrator or distribution. KNetworkManager will not start automatically in future. If I reboot the system, I logg in successfully. So far the problem has appeared approximately upon every second time I boot up. Rebooting the system seems to take care of it.
Don't know what info is of interest. I'm using
Opensuse 11.2
KDE 4.4.2 (Factory)
After upgrade from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 it worked fine for a week or so.
Slackware :: 13.1 Beta1 - Cannot Open ConsoleKit Session - Unable To Open Session
May 13, 2010I do a clean install of slackware64 13.1 beta1 with KDE and switch default runlevel to 4 in /etc/inittab.
I try to login in kdm, I always come back to the login....
I try this with default runlevel 3 and an .xinitrc with "ck-launch-session startkde" .. works without problems, so I switch back to default runlevel 4, now i can login and only get the error "Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session..."

Fedora :: Unable To Open The Session
Feb 1, 2010Just installed Fedora 12 on a P4 IBM. Everything installed fine. Then, I rebooted, installed updates, and installed a few simple programs (emacs, ssh server). I rebooted since some kernel updates had been made. I can't login anymore. I get a brief message at GDM that says "unable to open session" after I enter my password. Root also doesn't work, but I figured out that root logins are disabled. I found something that recommended disabling selinux, so I reboot with selinux=0 parameter. That still didn't fix the problem, but did initiate selinux to re-label everything on the next boot.
My next thought was that maybe my password got corrupted, so I went into single usermode. I ran passwd justin, so I know that my password is correct. I still can't login via GDM or on a tty.
EDIT: I was also thinking I might need to uninstall something that I did; however, networking is disabled in single usermode, and if I init 3, then I get a login prompt that I can't open. Is there a way that I can enable root login? That might be a starting point to see if it's my user account or a general login problem.
Fedora :: Xguest - "unable To Open Session" Message
Feb 24, 2011I can follow instructions but can't make leaps of logic. I installed F14 and managed to get it working correctly on one of our laptops but when i installed xguest it created the guest account on the login but give me a "unable to open session" message when i try to log in.

Jun 25, 2010After finally getting libptp2 to compile I find that ptpcam does not work. This has worked perfectly fine before with the same camera using Slackware 12.0, I am now using Slackware 13.1 and ptpcam will simply not work. The error is as follows:

Try to reset the camera.
I have tried to reset with "ptpcam -r", I have also tried to disconnect and reconnect the camera to the USB system, I have tried to reboot the computer, I have tried to use different versions of libptp2 -- all to no avail. The strace shows the issue is apparently a failed ioctl(), although I have no idea why it fails:

I have verified that the camera is working in Windows 7 on the same physical computer and I can see the camera from lsusb and dmesg output when I connect it to the USB system. This system is Slackware 13.1, Linux x86_1 2.6.33.4-smp #2 SMP Wed May 12 22:47:36 CDT 2010 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux.
Fedora Networking :: Unable To Receive Multicast Data
Jun 13, 2010I have just set up an FC 13 box for a small network application. At the core, the application is supposed to receive some data over a multicast on my local network. However, for some reason, I am not being able to receive any multicast data on this machine. Other machines, on the same network (connected on the same layer 2 switch) are receiving the multicast just fine. I have tried the following things:
1. ensure that I am joining the multicast on the correct interface: the machine has only one ethernet card. Also, after starting my application, I use netstat -g to check for group membership. The multicast subscription shows up fine.
2. ensure there is no error in the program: the program works fine on my person linux machine
3. ensure that the multicast is actually available: it is available on all other local machines. I also wrote my own small broadcaster. data from this broadcaster (running on the same box) is available to other machines but not to my own listener program.
4. no firewall/filtering settings on the layer2 switch
5. TTL setting on the broadcast: have tried changing it from 1 through 5 with no effect. Note that even if the broadcast is coming from the same machine, my machine does not pick it up while other machines on the network do so.
I suspect this has to do with some settings on the network card itself. Below is the output of /sbin/ifconfig on the card:

Fedora :: Cannot Open ConsoleKit Session
Oct 31, 2010My Fedora 12 box got that error after some updates on it.
I can login but it's prompting that error and everything will be a black space.
But still no good.
According to the log messages, the ConsoleKit session isn't initializing. I can't paste the logs here coz it's on another laptop.
I could think of just upgrading it to Fedora 13 but there's no way I can backup all of my files on it. Is it just safe to upgrade it?
OpenSUSE Install :: Fresh Install + Update & Reboot = Unable To Open Session?
Sep 14, 2010I just reinstalled my OpenSuse 11.3 with the GNOME desktop. As soon as I was done installing and I was on a fresh desktop, I installed the Yast updates that were available, rebooted, and now I can't login to any of my User accounts. Whenever I try to login, it tells me that it is "Unable to Open Session".o any of you know how I can fix this without having to reinstall all over again

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. reinstall the kernel module by executing
'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'
as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. i have installed the DKMS package, but when i try to run the command stated in the error message, i get another error message in the terminal:

Jul 1, 2010We are using Real VNC enterprise server. User will connect to the vnc server and do their work. We are facing one issue since from last week. When user is working on session, some times the session will get hung.He can't do anything on that. If he close the connection and try to connect from vnc viewer to the same vnc session it is not connecting. even it is not asking for the password. I have checked in the server the Xvnc process for the session is still running. When I tried to check the session is alive or not from telnet it is not showing that RFB 004.001.

I can download them and open them from the download window or even from the folder they are saved to, but not from the browser. I tried re-installing GDM, but turns out that the PC isn't actually online, hence unable to install GDM after uninstallation. So I downloaded the gdm .deb, and tried to install it from a USB flash drive, but I get dependency errors. I'm at a loss here, I could really use some help, this is the PC that has all my data on it, 450 GB +, I'd love to not have to transfer that over to a new installation!

We are able to receive as well as send mails for the main domain users (i.e. example.com) but not able to receive virtual users mail (i.e. configured example2.com in main.cf and configured in virtual file as systems@example2.com useronly). We are receiving error message in outlook as 0x800CCC0F. Please guide us how to solve this issue.
