I recently installed Fedora 15 now, and during installation I set the internet connection manually, then did update and after reboot, the internet connection settings have been removed. Now I can not set because the network connection to the Internet Connection is inactive. I mention that before the update was functional internet connection.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am a user of Ubuntu 10.04 and I use Firestarter because it lets me know which IPs I am connected to, which ports are used, and which applications are using those ports. The problem is that I can't use Firestarter with my non-sudo account (well, I know that I can change my system settings to do that, but I'd rahther not do it).
So the question is: Is there any application that lets the user monitor the internet connection?
I want to find out which server/service a streaming box connects to and maybe also take a look at some packets. The box connects to the Internet via a Linux gateway running Debian I have root access to. I have some basic knowledge about iptables, tcpdump, netstat etc. but couldn't yet figure out how to get this info.
My first approach was with netstat, but this traffic seems not to be visible (which somehow makes sense to me). My next guess was that with iptables it should be possible to log this connections, however I couldn't yet figure out how to.
Where can I find a complete list of all the logs in the system?
I would like to know the following:
Which were the last connections to my machine (IP addresses) What were the files accessed by that IP address
I am using CentOS (don't remember the exact version it's probably 5.6 or 6.0).
have a problem with my network-manager in ubuntu 10.10.when I dial one of my vpn connections, my other vpn connections be disabled and I can't use them!I tried to restart network-manager and gnome-panel, but it does't seem to solve this problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Fedora 12 and attempted to create a new java project in Eclipse.I used the 'eclipse' command in the terminal to start eclipse. It starts fine, however, there is no 'java project' option after choosing 'File->New Project'. Only CVS and General projects. I am not experienced enough in programming to understand the relevance/usage of either of these project modes, and only want to be able to write java programs in Eclipse.
Also, does the eclipse that is run from the terminal support c++ development? I have attempted to download eclipse for C++/C developers, but cannot get it to run. Which eclipse is running when I type 'eclipse' in the terminal? Is there a way to make it so I don't have to run this command from the terminal to load eclipse?
The notifier does not work under LXDE in fedora 15. It does not output anything through notify-send or any other program which uses notifications.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Asus UL80j, Nvidia GeForce 310m w/ 1gb mem, i3 core processor and 4 gb ram. Windows 7 HP came on, I love Fedora so I dual boot. I installed the Fedora 13, did yum update all is good. I attempt to use the compiz for cool effects however, it freezes my system.
I attempt to install the nvidia graphics driver from thread [url] and follow the instructions to perform the install and reboot.
First it loads the fedora logo like always and then boom, black screen with a blinking white underscore mocking me. Reboot once more and get the load out of pass/fails and see nvidia.ko for kernel...... [NOT FOUND] blah blah [FAIL] blah blah [FAIL]
is there any way i can get Ubuntu's Notify OSD on Fedora 14? or at least get some nicer themes for notification-daemon?

However, it would not work because I didn't have the proprietary graphics driver for my graphics card (Nvidia Quadro NVS 3100M). If I open "System Monitor", and end the evolution-alarm-notify task, then I can restart evolution successfully. I therefore suspect it is that which is causing trouble. How in IPTables, do I configure a policy that limits connections on a port that encapsulates the total sum of all connections from all hosts? i.e. I do not want to allow more than 6000conn/minute for port range that is the sum of all connecting hosts?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am facing problem with the fresh installation of Fedora 11. (I have moved from Fedora 9). When I try to view videos on ..... or use the Cheese Webcam Booth, I get blurred lines on the screen and I am unable to see any video or pic.
Also I noticed that the when i go to System > Preferences>Display, it shows me UNKOWN MONIOR.
However, if I got to System>Administration>Display and enter the su password, it shows me correct monitor and the graphics driver.
I am not sure if my original is related to the Unknown Monitor.
I also tried to install Nvidia driver but it crashed the xserver and I had remove the driver.
My Monitor is LG 700E and Graphics card is from intel. as I am not able watch any video.
I am having problems getting my external monitor to work. When I plug in the monitor, both the laptop screen and the external monitor go black. When I unplug the monitor, the laptop screen works again.
When I startup with the external monitor plugged in, neither screen works or teh computer hangs or something.
I have had the external monitor going on a couple of occasions. I did manage to configure my monitors through System Settings > Display. I turned off the laptop monitor as I just want to use the external. But after rebooting, things didn't work.

I have an external monitor connected to my laptop (extended display). I always drag the Totem player from the laptop screen to external monitor to watch video files. I wonder, if the Totem player can be set to open in the external monitor automatically, everytime I open it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy software and hardware information are as follows. I have Fedora 12 and KDE 4.4.5 installed on a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. I believe it's a 64 bit processor; it's an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU. The external monitor is a Dell as well.
My problem is that my system does not seem to be detecting an external monitor that I have connected. Everything else is working just fine; however, I would like to have the option of attaching an external monitor. When I plug the external monitor into the laptop, the external monitor remains black and appears to be in power save mode. The results of xrandr -q (with or without the external monitor attached: it doesn't appear to change) are as follows.

How can I get my laptop to recognize that the external monitor is even connected? Let me know if I can be more specific or provide additional details.
I just upgrade to F14 from F10 on a dual montor setup. Firefox behaives differently on F14 than on F10.
On F10 it followed the mouse pointer's location and show up on the correct monitor
When maximized at close, it is always displayed on the left monitor. When not maximized at close it will open on the monitor where the mouse pointer is located.
About minimize/maximize Firefoxe before closing and it seems to work in some case, but not for me.
ok so the router works in windows and i know the config details of it.i can see other wifi access points in the area but not my one. i have tried joining it as a "hidden network" to no avail.is there any reason why fedora would not detect my own wifi when it detects substantially weaker signals instead??

View 9 Replies View RelatedFor a special purpose I needed a initramfs - that didn't work. So I reduced the initramfs setup to the simplest.
Mount the root and switch_root into it. But that didn't work either.
If I go with the init-script for the initramfs I posted below the system prints out the switch_root usage-text from busybox. But the syntax is right, ain't it?
When I use chroot instead of switch_root then it prints the usage-text of init before the kernel panic.
If I try with "/sbin/init 5" then, after a while the system reports "init: timeout opening/writing control channel /dev/initctl".
In the other cases I get the following error messages before the system hangs: "Kernel Panic", "Attempted to kill init", "init not tainted"
(With the init script below there is a error saying:"sh: can't access tty; job control turned off". I know why it's there - but don't know if it is connected to this problem.)
This information may be important:
- The machine boots from a usb-harddisk
- /sbin/init on the new root is available
- the system on newroot is sane and runs perfect standalone (without initramfs)
- the system on newroot uses baselayout-2 with openrc
- busybox is built as static binary
- busybox version is v1.15.3

I Downloaded the 6 CD's of CentOS installation , and I start install them on my machine :

I am having trouble with the login screen. After I enter my password and click login, I hear the opening chime in fedora, then my keboard lights flash on and off and my screen goes blank for a minute, almost like the machine is rebooting, then goes right back to the login screen. Sometimes I have to do this 5-8 times before I finally get into the desktop, other times it works the first time.

This is literally a big enough deal that I might just un-install it. But, that would be terrible because I think it's a fantastic app if it didn't sit there for five god damn minutes telling me about messages I read five minutes ago...
No, not literally five minutes, so don't respond saying "There's no way its five minutes" or "if it lasts that long something's wrong with your computer". If I really can't change the timing then that's an awful call on the part of the programmers who made it. Who the hell wants an app that can't be adjusted in any way?
I was hoping to have a pop up come up after my rssdler completes, I was hoping for the nice pop ups that Ubuntu for brightness, audio volume, instant messages ect, i think it's called notify but i'm still figuring things out. Is there a way i can write this into my rssdler start up script? or any other script i'm writing?
View 5 Replies View RelatedNo matter what I try, notifications do not appear. The notify-osd program is running (if I check ps) and nothing ever reports an error. I just don't see it, or hear it (does it make a sound?)
I think this might be because of my dual screen setup. I have two screens set up, with the screen on the right lower than the screen on the left so that they match up in real life.
This leaves a dead space above the right hand screen, perhaps its appearing in there? But I have already used notification-preferences to move it to the left (does that even work?) and still nothing. What's up? I rely on notifications to tell me that something's up, since the new "notification area" plugin does not flash and is thus utterly useless on this large screen display (design failure)
