View 9 RepliesWhen I installed 10.10 I uninstalled gwibber, empathy and ubuntuone. Twice now in Update Manager I've subsequently found gwibber on the list of possible updates. Is there a way to tell Update Manager not to include in future some programs, which I've uninstalled and don't want?

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen using opensuse 11.2 i get a popbox saying there are security updates ready to install. if i right-click on each update, there is a "ignore this update" button but i cannot click on it because it is greyed out.
why can't i click on 'ignore this update'?
if there is a way to blacklist certain packages when updates come around. The reason for this is that I have two repositories that contain Smplayer and Mplayer. But one repository versions of this aren't VDPAU active (but the build is newer).
View 1 Replies View RelatedShort version: Why does apt-get update since recently ask me for my installation DVD?
Long version: In my sources.lst there is still an entry for the installation DVD.
I like that because if a package on DVD is still the newest version then there is no need to download it again. (If I comment out the DVD entry apt-get update will ignore the DVD but at the same time no package will ever be installed from it again, right?)
Since some time ago this was no problem as apt-get update didn't have a problem with the entry - or if it had (I don't really remember), there was just an error message and the process would continue with the other sources. But then this changed and now I'm asked to insert the disk (luckily I have only one DVD) every time and the routine waits until I have done so.
Is there a way to change that back?
I've read some apt documentation and the apt-* manual pages including apt.conf and some examples for that but could not find something useful though there might be something I missed because I didn't understand everything I saw.
Clearly, it makes sense that DVDs and the like can be included in apt-get update because some people update offline with these media. But (the standard) DVDs are read-only and the individual disks are identified by apt (see /var/lib/apt/cdroms.list). So the system should not expect an already known DVD to change but recognize if a new one is being used.
I generally have at least 4-5 distro's installed at one time - I always install grub to the boot partition of other distros -that was I control grub from the individual distros - I use ubuntu's grub as the default boot loader.
Rather than the method that ubuntu uses with the update-grub.I normally edit the grub.cnf file to add other distros but when update-grub launches it also adds links in grub. How can I prevent the upadte-grub script automatically adding lines for other distros i.e - I just want it to add ubuntu entries and ignore other partitions.
I am running Fedora 12 on a system with Intel Core2 Duo CPU, Linux Kernel 2.6.32.14-127.fc12.x86_64, and Gnome 2.28.2. I have two questions about Software Update:
1. Software Update tells me there are two updates available:
openssl-1.0.0a-1.fc12(i686) and
openssl-1.0.0a-1.fc12(x86-64)
If I try to download and install openssl-1.0.0a-1.fc12(i686), I get the following errors:
Test Transaction Errors: file /usr/share/man/man1/asn1parse.1ssl.gz from install of openssl-1.0.0a-1.fc12.i686 conflicts with file from package openssl-1.0.0-4.fc12.x86_64
file /usr/share/man/man1/ca.1ssl.gz from install of openssl-1.0.0a-1.fc12.i686 conflicts with file from package openssl-
[code]....
I tried the --skip-broken option, resulting in: Packages skipped because of dependency problems:
openssl-1.0.0a-1.fc12.i686 from updates
openssl-1.0.0a-1.fc12.x86_64 from updates
The Software Update "Help" pages refer to a software log viewer which should be located at Applications-->System Tools-->Software Log Viewer, but it isn't there.
How do I disable certain updates in the update manager? I don't want to install the open office uno runtime environment because I installed the rpm packages from the open office website. This update corrupts my installation of open office and I always have to reinstall it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy kupdate-applet tells me it has a recommended update: KDE 4.3.5 from the official opensuse update repo. Problem is I already have a more recent version of KDE 4.3.5 installed from the official opensuse KDE repo. In yast I pressed the "switch system packages" button for the KDE repo. How can I make the update applet ignore this "recommended" update? Note that the updateApplet itself is installed from the opensuse update repo. If I don't do this, then the older update applet from the KDE repo always has a recommended update for... Kupdate-applet.

I'm trying get updates from update manager and it says "the upgrade needs a total of 498M free space on disk '/'. Please free at least an additional 495M of disk space on '/'. Empty your trash and remove temporary packages of former installations using 'sudo apt-get clean'." I ran sudo apt-get clean n it did nothing.

View 8 Replies View RelatedIs there an easy way/place to get more info on the updates that the Ubuntu (9.04) Update Manager presents to you? I know you can highlight one and look below at the "Changes" and "Description". But how can you find a real explanation of what the update is? To give one exampe: There's a 5.0MB update called: openoffice.org-writer It appears to be a new version of the Writer program?? or is it just security updates?? Should I install it if I'm happy with the current Writer version? bottom line: where can I get plain talk about what these updates are?
