I am trying to mount /NFS as nfs mountpoint on two servers ( A & B ) having OS OEL 5. After mounting the nfs filesystem, both of them behave normally for around 10 mins and after that the NFS file handle become stale and the mountpoints dont respond. While executing df -kh, the output hang out and the /var/log/messages show the following message:
May 27 15:48:56 earth mountd[3078]: Cannot export /NFS, possibly unsupported filesystem or fsid= required
May 28 04:04:20 earth kernel: nfs: server nas not responding, still trying
May 28 10:11:51 earth kernel: nfs: server nas not responding, still trying
The fstab entries for /NFS mountpoint on both servers is :
nas:/NFS /NFS nfs rw,bg,hard,nointr,tcp,nfsvers=3,timeo=600,rsize=32 768,wsize=32768,acti
meo=0 1 2
/etc/export entries on both server is :
/NFS *(rw,sync,no_wdelay,insecure_locks,no_root_squash)

I am thinking of getting a domain name or ten I do not know were to point the domain to?
and what do I need to setup if a user wants a domain name to point to his account on the server? ok more like I want to have a few domains pointing to my user accounts I have setup on the server..can I do this directly or do I need a server domain first before users can get a domain name?
I have a basic setup user web space and ftp and mysql setup
what extra would I have to install or not to be able to get a domain pointed to my server and/or user accounts?
I don't seem to be able to find anything specific on how to set this up anywhere.

I am trying to point my domain to my server with a static IP address. My domain is registered with Network Solutions and they ask "Primary and Secondary DNS" settings in their setup. What primary and secondary DNS settings I need to give when I have a dedicated server with static single IP address with BIND installed.

I have just been gifted with a Linux dedicated server for the next six months, with an option to renew after that time has expired, and I'd like to set it up for FTP/P2P use. I do have some familiarity with Fedora from work, but only as a pre-installed desktop OS. The company providing the server has asked me to choose a OS, so of course I picked the one with which I already have some knowledge. They've also asked me to provide partition and mount point information, and it's here that I'm having some problems. I've spent most of my free time today reading everything I could about partitioning for a server, and I'm still not comfortable making this decision on my own.
The server comes with two drives - one 500GB and one 1TB, and 8GB RAM. My thinking is to use the 500GB drive for the OS, and the 1TB for media storage. I know I still have a good bit of learning to do, but I just want to get the blasted thing set up so I can get on with the hands-on part of figuring out how it works.

i have registered two domain names that i want to use to connect to my ubuntu server. I was wondering how to do this i was looking at bind9 but that didn't work that great. The server is behind a router with firewall i can connect to it using the external IP address but i like to use the two domain names if that is possible.

I was thinking about setting up my own mail server. Problem is my ISP will not let me have a static IP unless I upgrade to a Business class service which is just too expensive for home use. As a work around I use a DDNS service from Dlink, which is actually done via DYNDNS.com. So essentially I have mydomain.dlinkddns.com point to my Dynamic WAN IP, and it is all automatically managed by my router.
Is there a way I can haveoint to my mail server without it being a subdomain of my DDNS om)? In other words I would like to have the email someone@mymaildomain.com and not have it be dlinkddns.com or something like that. I know someone has done it, I just have never done it. Not quite sure what to google to find the answer myself either.

I have a red hat system that I currently have two websites hosted on. Im trying to set up a third domainname but every time I touch the files (httpd.conf, hosts, ddclient.conf, VirtualHosts, etc) it resolves to the primary domain name. The third domain keeps pulling up my first domain instead of resolving to its domain name. Any Ideas? I go through DynDns with custom domains. The first two have been working for years, but whenever I try to set up the third one exactly like the other two using the thirds info, it will not resolve to that third domain?????

I am trying to figure this out and it seems I can't So, I have a server which hosts various domains, each domain with multiple subdomains. All websites are set up with "VirtualHost" and they all work properly. The problem I'm having is that if I enter any subdomain of the main domain, I can still reach the webpage. Is there some way of telling apache to DROP / display a forbidden message for all subdomains which are not listed in the VirtualHosts?

i have installed apache and bind on my server and i've also registered a dynamic domain through dyndns as jan27.dyndns.biz. i am able to successfully host my own webpages using this method.
then i registered a domain name (lets call it "blah.com") through namescheap.com and have registered my nameserver to my ip address. after reconfiguring the my external zones in bind and restarted my services, i am unable to reach my webpages through the new domain name.. www.blah.com and blah.com would lead me to a opendns.com page but interestingly ns1.blah.com loads my webpages successfully.

I'm trying to set up a framework where people connected to same wifi connection can enter a local site for developing purposes.I want them to be thrown to a local copy (development copy of the site) when they type in www.development.loc in the browser.I don't want to connect the world, only people connected to my wifi.Anyone willing to help by stating what I need to edit to :1. Allow me to access local copy of site that's on computer (located : /var/www/developmentsitename/) using www.development.loc in browser./and2a. What do I edit to create the server accessible by other computers connected to same wifi connection. 2b. If another computer can connect to this site now, can we create a virtual desktop setting in which workers can work as if they have their own partition on the server to work on and upload work onto the development server.

First of all I am new user on fedora forum and I love Linux (special Redhat flavours) and want to replace windows into Linux Everywhere. I am having some issue in configuring PDC on Fedora,I want to replace my company Windows Domain controller and file server into fedora file and PDC, I tried from web and through 389-directory server but didn't succeed even once, how to configure PDC with Samba 4 + 389-directory Server, I have heard samba 4 is having awesome support and its better then windows DC, configuring Complete PDC. (Whatever need to configure PDC i.e. DNS, SAMBA 4, SWAT, WEBMIN, 389-Directory Server, Windows sync,).

I installed Postfix, Roundcube (webmail) and Dovecot. Postfix stores the e-mails in maildirs located at /home/postfix/maildir/[user]@[domain]. Now I set the mail_location configuration option in Dovecot to: mail_location = maildir:/home/postfix/maildir/%u@%d The problem I run into is logging in with [user]@[domain]. Right now I can only login with [user] (without @[domain]), which makes the mail_location invalid (no e-mails can be found). How could I configure dovecot to use the domain name as well as part of the username?

I am thinking about buying a domain name and hosting my web server.
I have seen pricing from $8 to $30 a year. Any favorites from fellow ubunters? Also this whole "whois" thing scares me, if I am correct my information I enter when buying the domain is enter into some big pool of information. People can find this information out and dig up important information. url Can I prevent this with private Whois or how do I set it up? This website examples some of my fears with this whole WhoIs thing, url whois/Private-Whois.html Does most/all domain registers come with email or just email forwarding or both? How does that work? At this moment, my only question about Web Hosting is how do I get Website Statistics as in: Stats, web analytics, web traffic stats and more? I will be web hosting through Ubuntu 9.10 gnome.

In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

Attach a Fedora/RHEL/CentOS system to an Active Directory DomainBelow is a step by step outline of how to configure a Linux Samba fileserver to use an Active Directory domain for authentication and authorization in place of flat files. Note that this configuration has been replicated using Fedora 10, RHEL 5.3 and CentOS 5 since they all more or less share the same code base.me of the example server in this document is erver1.domain.forest.org, substitute correctly where appropriate. At the very least following packages must also be installed:
sambasamba-commonsamba-clientkrb5-workstationopenldap-clientsIt would be prudent to understand the underlying concepts of how Kerberos and Samba work prior to deploying this type of server. I find that SE-Linux will interfere with Samba services, particularly with winbind. I usually set SE-Linux to be in a permissive mode. It is possible to update the SE-Linux policies but that is outside the scope of this document, i.e you're on your own. In some cases I turned SE-Linux off since it was causing winbind to stop responding.
1. Set NTP to use the correct server for your Active Directory domain:shell> system-config-timeSet the primary NTP server to be your domain/forest NTP server2. Make backups of and edit the following system configuration files:a. shell> cp /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf.bakb. shell> vi /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver dns_server1_ip_address
nameserver dns_server2_ip_address
search domain.forest.org

At the school i work in i have a server2k3 server that provides a domain to all the windows clients, aswell as a fedora server that acts as an imaging machine and webserver.
Im rather concious of the fact that if for any reason the Server2k3 server was to die there is no backup of active directory, or anything that can take its place whilst a replacement is found.
So is it possible to use a fedora machine with samba as a secondary domain controller? so it can be used as a login server, and has a copy of AD.

I have an Ubuntu server running Samba and I would like to share out the cdrom drive to the network. I made a share of the /media directory and it seems to work fine when I insert USB drives and I am able to browse and work with files. However, when I insert a cdrom it automatically mounts to /media/<volume name> and I get a permission denied error when I attempt to access it over the network. I am assuming this is happening because the permissions do not include the execute bit and being a read only file system I can not change this. I made the directory /media/cdrom and manually mounted the cdrom to it and I can successfully access it over the network just like the USB drives. So my question is: Is there a way to make the cdrom automatically mount and unmount to /media/cdrom when I insert and eject disks instead of to /media/<volume name>? Or maybe just have the permissions automatically set so Samba users can open it instead of just see it.
