How to limit emails sent outside my domain or from a user in my domain with postfix to a valid user? i.e., bob can't send email as jane both from my domain and neither can send email to bob@hotmail.com as someone other then themselves. Using postfix with dovecot authentication through mysql.

For example all my local computer user with ip 192.x.x.x need to able to send 10 emails/minite (emails, not connections!. The rest of the world can send for example 200 emails/minute to the mailserver. If the amount of emails per minute is exceeded, sendmail needs to block receiving emails from the spesific IP. I want to do this to stop spaming from my local network. Is it possible?

Has thunderbird (recent version) have a "TEST" function ? basically, i'm trying to send messages, with 20+ accounts (different emails, but one domain / SMTP server). one account works fine - the other one doesn't. i go to my "outgoing server" & everything is fine - usernames / ports etc..) The settings for each account do show the right outgoing server. If i 'send later' & close down thunderbird, 7 re-open - it asks me for my password again (which it saves), & then it is able to send the email.
QUESTION :- is there a TESt option that will test each & EVERY account in one timeslot ? Ie, will go through each email address - sends an email to itself (the same address), & sends it. it will then try the server again, to see if the email was received. & then give me a single report, of all the incorrect settings.(I've tried this 1 email account half a dozen times tonight & i dont know *WHY* its not sending on the 1st go.. )
I just configured my first postfix mail server today. Everything is working correctly except for the fact that on all outgoing emails instead of the mail format being user@mydomain.biz it says user@hostnameofpostfixserver. All websites are set up with "VirtualHost" and they all work properly.The problem I'm having is that if I enter any subdomain of the main domain, I can still reach the webpage.Is there some way of telling apache to DROP / display a forbidden message for all subdomains which are not listed in the VirtualHosts?

then i registered a domain name (lets call it "blah.com") through namescheap.com and have registered my nameserver to my ip address. after reconfiguring the my external zones in bind and restarted my services, i am unable to reach my webpages through the new domain name.. www.blah.com and blah.com would lead me to a opendns.com page but interestingly ns1.blah.com loads my webpages successfully.

Now I set the mail_location configuration option in Dovecot to: mail_location = maildir:/home/postfix/maildir/%u@%d The problem I run into is logging in with [user]@[domain]. Right now I can only login with [user] (without @[domain]), which makes the mail_location invalid (no e-mails can be found). How could I configure dovecot to use the domain name as well as part of the username?

Also, added this domain to my backend exchange server. When I send a test message from the new domain, my messages from that domain appear to be stuck in the "queue active". What does it mean when you are stuck in this queue? Does this mean that my backend email server (exchange 2003) isn't allowing messages from this new domain OR that the POSTFIX server still needs configuring.

The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

I have installed ubuntu server 9.04 and want to send emails from my server for which I've configured postfix. But I dont know what to do next.
My questions are:
1. Do i need to install DNS server for using postfix? If not, what should I install to send emails from this server?
2. Do I need to forward any particular port in my router?
3. If I dont have a fully qualified domain, what are the configurations I need to do to send emails?
Here's what I'm trying to do to complete my rocking development server.
I would like all outgoing email on my Ubuntu server to be redirected to one email address (internal or external). I don't have any mail server installed yet (I'll probably use postfix unless you have another suggestion).
The reason I would like this to work is because I'm a web developer working on multiple projects. When I start working on a new project I would like to be able to test some of the forms and features in the web application (PHP) without having emails sent to the email address configured in the application. I can always change configurations but having my development server forward the emails would save me lots of trouble.
Example:
If one of my php application sends an email to: user1@domain.com, user3@domain4.com... I would like all of them to forward to myemail@domain.com

The problem my brain cannot get around is the DNS resolves to the windows server 2008 box(which host the website as well), how can we allow the email (ours@ours.com) to go to the Ubuntu email server even though the DNS name resolves to the windows server? In production all is well, the java apps send emails to customers. However, in the non-production environments all emails must not be sent out. Instead they must end up in some kind of generic inbox.
We don't want to mess with the production setup at all and it isn't an option to lose the non-prod emails altogether. So on non-prod we can reference another SMTP server and send all emails there. So far I've set up a postfix, dovecot, squirrelmail email server which appears to work.
