The Fedora Directory Service LDAP database administration console was working okay until I rebooted the server.
- dirsrv starts okay
- but dirsrv-admin just freezes without any error messages.
How I should get started to fix it?
I recently setup a file sharing server with FC10 running Samba...
I got it running perfectly and it ran great for a few weeks. I was working on the machine today and tried to reboot it and noticed that it was stuck on FC10's new boot screen. I pressed the esc key and saw that the boot process was stuck on the smb service...
I don't get any errors and the machine doesn't freeze up or anything, it just hangs on the smb service and won't continue with the boot...
Is there anyway that I can get the system to skip the smb service so that I can get into the system? I don't know what's changed or what's causing this sudden hang in the system at boot.
I tried the ubuntu live CD to attempt to go in and edit the /etc/rc5.d scripts to try and skip the smb service start but I am not sure where to look for it...
Recently i've upgraded my fedora 11 to 12 using the preupgrade command and now I have a problem booting! when i start the interactive boot it hangs after trying to run the service local, it looks as if its trying to boot because the cursor blinks really fast then blinks normally after a few seconds. no error was stated during the event. what seems to be the problem here?

I have just installed zend server ce php 5.3, and I am having trouble getting it to work. I have a few problems getting a custom service/daemon to auto-start at boot. I'm running ubuntu 11.04 Server amd64 edition. One of the services is a Teamspeak3 server I'm trying to start. I would like it to start up automatically on boot. ts3 already have a script with start/stop commands so all i have done is make a little script for it to get it to run as the correct user.

Running Ubuntu Server 10.04 32 bit. Sometimes when I reboot it does not start up, It seems to be going through the boot process but then just hangs. I have had a look at the log files and can't see anything, but I'm not really sure what I am looking for.

I am running RAID1 via the onboard PERC4 controller that is set to emulate MASS storage. I am able to boot from the disk and run through the initial setup, however, when I give it the go ahead to start the partitioning it hangs up on 33%. It does this on both the Guided full disk and guided full disk LVM. I have run a check on the disk as well as memory.

I found the init script for MySQL under /etc/init/mysql.conf. I added my thing to the pre-start script there and works fine.
I am having trouble finding the script that stops the server so I can modify.
Does anyone know a secure method for starting a service after a user logs in to the desktop environment? There are a couple of issues that I'm trying to work around / troubleshoot and this would assist with doing that.
I'm running Fedora 11, not sure if that matters for this question.
I performed the first update in 4 months to my Fedora 12 Constantine. I also removed a 'dial-up' package (figured i didnt need it) and the KDE package after the update. Firefox was not getting a connection to the internet at this point. The network view showed the ethernet as inactive. Everything besides Firefox appears to work fine.
I restart machine.
It boots until right after the fedora logo fills up. At this point my dual monitors go to sleep. No response from anything. When I start in interactive mode I hit y for everything. Everything works great until libvirtd, libvirt-guest, and local. After y on all three nothing happens. I can type on the screen but no response. It just sits there. I can boot into text mode and do whatever I want. What can I do? What other information do I need to move forward?
I have looked at the Xorg.0.?? i forget what its called. I am not versed in reading the messages in it. Same for the other logs I looked at.

The title says it all.I'm not much for the command line so I really don't know how to debug this.Any help would be appreciated .It was working fine then I had some updates and now the window opens but It is just blank.deluge never fully starts.Transmission starts and I was using it for a while but it never worked as well as deluge.no where near for that matter. It was very slow and seemed to choke itself.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI don't know what I did, but for some reason my fedora system hangs on the OS startup when I use my default kernel. I can still use my other kernel to startup the system though, so it's more of an inconvenience really, but any help fixing it would be appreciated.
The default kernel is Fedora (2.6.34.7-61.fc13.i686) when I start up using this kernel the system hangs(I think I using the right term here, but not sure) after these messages code...
Just installed a Sparkle GeForce 8400 GS on my Dell Dimension 2350 running FC9. As stated, every time the system goes to start the card, a stack trace occurs. I know the first thing that everyone will ask for is the output from the stack trace, but for the life of me I can't capture it. Tried grabbing the STDOUT and SDTERR from the 'service start' command, but nothing interesting is ever there. If anyone knows if and where such things get stored, just letting me know that would help. I assumed there would be something in /var/log, but no. For some reason, there's a lot of python errors in the output. I imagine I could try to type in as much of the output as possible, but I'm hoping someone has seen this before.
Anyway, I've tried the Nvidia install executable, the nvidia-newest RPMs, the nvidia-96xx RPMs and they all fail the same way. I also can't get the card to come up as the primary device on boot, which I don't think should be a problem since they all boot into VGA mode, don't they? If I disable the internal video setup in the BIOS, the machine freezes on bootup with blinking lights on the keyboard, which I imagine is the BIOS's way of telling me there's no monitor available.
I also tried getting the nv and nouveau drivers going with no luck. They are installed on the machine, but I'm embarrassed to say I don't know how to get them configured. Not really a driver guy, I guess. Also, the reason I installed this card is to get TVOUT, and I don't know if generic drivers will have support for that sort of thing.
At this point, I'm just looking for a way forward. One thing I remember is that when I removed the 'fglrx' drivers (because they conflicted with the NVIDIA stuff) I remember that a few python/fglrx based packages went with it. I'm wondering if that could be at the root of the failure, given the python errors in the stack trace.

When I try to start HTTPD or vncserver services, status display as "This service is being refreshed right now", it keeps like this for a long moment. Closing and reopening services applet, I notice that both services are stopped. I googled about apache, the 1st thing I understood is to search error_log, opened it in gedit, nothing is written in this file.

i just installed Fedora 12, clean without anything change in it. I opened services dialog, and the openvpn service have status:dead, however it shows that it is enabled.when i try to run it as:/sbin/service openvpn start.It write OK. However if check it:/sbin/service openvpn status it write that service not running. What is a point of a problem? I have opened openvpn in FireWall,however without success, may be some additionsl services for openvpn are not running?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running named as a caching name server (package bind-9.7.3-1.fc14.x86_64 with config files exactly as supplied), and sometimes it does not shut down cleanly when I shut down the machine.The script /etc/ init.d/named tries to issue a "stop" command with rndc and that seems to fail most of the time; then it next uses the function killproc (defined in /etc/init.d/functions) which fails sometimes.I've hacked the named service script for now so that error messages are not hidden, but there is nothing reported.
