RHEL 5 update 2 I'm trying to start services from a centralized location on many servers. I can start/stop these services from an interactive login without any issue, but when I try the same command via ssh/rsh, it hangs. I have my ssh keys set up correctly and I can run other remote commands.
Local server:
# /etc/init.d/samba start
Starting Samba smbd: [ OK ]
Remotely to same server:
# ssh server "/etc/init.d/samba start"
Starting Samba smbd:
<hang>
You are running tftpd as an on demand server i.e. it is only fired up when it is needed. Services run by xinetd are always run on demand. Have you actually tested if tftp on another system can access your PC i.e.
Code:
tftp your_pc_ip_address
I am downloading some files via tftp from the server (call it my server) and I need the server to be case insensitive to the file names requested. That is If I request "SoMe.TTL" and the actual file name is "some.ttl" it should send "some.ttl" back! Right now it is case sensitive and is a pain in the but because some windows clients upload files to that directory and the names can have any case. Furthermore, the file request mechanism must allow the user to input the required file name, hence the user can write using any case. Can the tftp-server solve cases by it's own? How about dnsmasq's internal tftp server? Ok, maybe I wasn't explicit above:
I need to make the fedora tftpd-server Case Insensitive!
I recently installed Fedora 13 on VMware 7 environment without X window. sshd did work fine, but when I tried to put it into xinetd, it doesn't work any more. Here is what I have done so far :
I stopped sshd. #service sshd stop
and I configured xinetd.conf like below.
Quote:
#
# This is the master xinetd configuration file. Settings in the
# default section will be inherited by all service configurations
# unless explicitly overridden in the service configuration. See
# xinetd.conf in the man pages for a more detailed explanation of
# these attributes.
[Code]....
I don't know what I did wrong with them. I configured xinetd.conf, and I made service configuration file 'ssh' in /etc/xinetd.d, and I restarted xinetd.
What am I supposed to do to make a life on my sshd within xinetd ?
A week ago or so neither ssh nor scp were working when attempting to connect to my on-campus computer from home. ssh was complainig about the key not matching and I figured out I could just delete the config file it was reading the (now old) key from and let it create a new one with the updated key upon prompting me whether or not to trust the remote host.
However, even though ssh is now working, I can no longer use scp. I issued scp -v and discovered a bunch of errors. scp prompts me for the remote password and even prints the message of the day on the remote computer but then just hangs and doesn't seem to be copying any files. I'm sure the issue is with the whole key change issue but I can't quite figure out why ssh would be working just fine and scp would be failing.
the codeigniter didn't work in my Fedora, the welcome page, when your codeigniter works,it will shows, but it doesn't appear.the same step,it can work in Windows. What's the problem?

I am running NFS and NIS servers in my FC8. Clients are also running FC8. Everything was working fine. I could login remotely to server as well as clients. Suddenly (few days ago) a problem started. I can not login remotely to client machines. I did not do anything. I can login to server remotely, but not the client. When I try to login, it accept password and nothing happens. Also, when I try to login from server to client same thing happens. We share the home directory of the server with client. Another question: there two type of nfs server nfs-user-server and nfs-kernel-server. I just use gui to set up the NFS. I don't know which one I am running. Is there any way to find out which nfs I am running?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI run Fedora 13 on my HP dv6000 Pavillion. I am looking for a way to remotely access my work station running Windows XP from my Fedora machine. Most of the information I found explained how to access a Linux box from a Windows environment, and the one place I found that showed the other way around was incomprehensible.
Our company servers run Windows XP, and we have successfully installed remote desktops on other laptops running Windows.I thought of running the remote desktop from a Virtual Machine Windows session, but it seems a cumbersome way to do it.
I have created a /tftpboot directory and chmod it to 777. I have put an image 'uImage' on my Debian box under /tftpboot
In directory /etc/xinetd.d/ I have created file tftp:

I have 2 web server in my office : http and https. You will find attached the httpd.conf and ssl.conf. I can acces the https server from home, but not the http one.
What I did :
configure the router to forward port 80 to my fedora 11 machine
open port 80 with system-config-network
created a virtualhost
The same exact steps have been done for port 443
I can access both server locally but only the https server remotelly.
Here are my iptables :
Code:
you can try to acces my servers using [url]
I made httpd to listen to port 8080, and done all the port forwarding/opening stuf, and it works. so is it a bug ?
Finally found my error seams like turning off UseCanonicalName to off did the trick
I really think it's a bug now. It was definitively working last week, I just added content to the main host of my website, and now i can't acces it from port 80. If someone think it's not a bug or find someting missing/wrong in my conf file.
I am trying to setup a TFTP server and followed these instructions in setting up TFTP-HPA.
[URL]
I pretty much followed every step but commented out these two lines from the /etc/xinet.d/tftp.
# only_from = 172.31.0.240/28
# interface = 172.31.0.252
Do we really need the lines if I am allowing any machine to connect? And I have only 1 network card. This is acting as a dedicated TFTP server.I ask as I get an error on the get and put commands as below:
tftp> get xxx.txt
tftp: error received from server <File not found>
tftp: aborting
However although it gives an error it DOES GET the file. The put command however does NOT put the file. I have nobody / nogroup setup for the directory permissions as well.
tftp> put .vimrc
tftp: error received from server <File not found>
tftp: aborting
In Jaunty (9.04) I've setup a small (eleven-terminal) ltsp network at the local school. It handled around 6600 working hours with ease.
Now I've upgrade the server to Karmic Koala (9.10) and it just stopped working.
1) The clients have PXE NICs
2) They get the proper IPs from the DHCP server and respond appropriately to changes in the DHCP configuration files.
3) DHCP server also points the clients to
filename=/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.0
4) When the clients try to download the pxelinux.0 over tftp they just timeout
5) /etc/inetd.conf has an entry like
tftp dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/in.tftpd /usr/sbin/in.tftpd -s /var/lib/tftpboot
6) The file /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.0 exists on the server
I'm lost at all these configuration files and protocols.
I have checked several tutorial sites, to no avail. I can't seem to get Winpe 3.0 to boot over tftpd/pxe.Has anyone successful done this using Ubuntu 9.10?, or am I just wasting my time trying.

I want to install Ubuntu LTSP on top of an already existing system. However, I want to use a different DHCP and TFTP server. Do I simply just install 'ltsp-server-standalone' with apt and run 'sudo ltsp-build-client', stop the DHCP and TFTP server and stop them from starting automatically? Would I then just copy over the pxelinux.cfg/default file from /var/lib/tftpboot along with the initrd.img and vmlinuz images to the TFTP server?
Edit: Do I need to actually copy the whole /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp directory over to the TFTP server?
I can't connect to my ssh-server (on ubuntu 10.04) from any external address. The error in putty is "connection timed out". From my internal network, everything works fine, even if I select my external IP address and port in putty as the destination.
This is what I have done so far:
installed open ssh with the ubuntu server 10.04 cd
set up port forwarding (11041) in my router (seems to work ok, port is open according to "shields up")
configured ssh to use port 11041 in /etc/ssh/sshd_config
changed tcp and udp ssh port in /etc/services to 11041
enabled UFW and did sudo ufw allow ssh

I am fairly new to ubuntu server, I want to setup a tftp server to mount a new kernel in a DaVinci platform. I was following the guide in this page [URL]..docs/linux_tftp, but accidentally I remove the xinetd.conf file. So I think that maybe removing and reinstalling xinetd the problem will be solved, but instead of that I can't completely remove xinetd and the follow message is print in the terminal
Removing xinetd ...
invoke-rc.d: unknown initscript, /etc/init.d/xinetd not found.
dpkg: error processing xinetd (--remove):
subprocess installed pre-removal script returned error exit status 100
invoke-rc.d: unknown initscript, /etc/init.d/xinetd not found.
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 100
Errors were encountered while processing:
xinetd
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
with that problem I can't start the service or stop it, I am blocked in the configuration of tftp server.
I'm really new with Ubuntu and have the following problem:I installed successfully sun-java6-jdk using apt-get install sun-java6-jdk Then set up the JAVA_HOME environment variable to "/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.20"
And then installed successfully tomcat6 using apt-get install tomcat6 apt-get install tomcat6-admin tomcat6-examples tomcat6-docs Everything seem to be right, when I try the browser with http://localhost:8080 return a webpage with "It works !" and other text
But, if I try http://localhost:8080/manager/html then returns 404 error, the error is something like "The required resource (manager/html) is not available" (that is my translation from the spanish text "El recurso requerido (/manager/html) no est disponible")

I did what they've been saying over there but when I restarted the vsftpd I couldn't login with the virtual user and also not with the system user anymore. This is the error ( with the system user who could login before ):

Last night I was able to set up my server so that I can just connect vnc. I even was able to be connected at the log on screen so I could select which user I wanted to log in at. For some reason today, I have to have the monitor plugged in all the until the logon screen comes up before vnc will connect. Once the logon screen is up, I then can connect via vnc & select which user I want to logon as. It's odd because it worked last nigh, but today - Nope nada, it doesn't work & I can't explain why. I did clean up - Removing some applications I don't need on my server. (I'm hoping that isn't the problem) It's odd as well because I don't have to be logged on as a user to connect via vnc, I just have to wait until the logon screen is available...Then I can unplugged the monitor & logon.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am developing/testing a PHP app on my netbook. For some reason apache/php are returning nothing but a "500 internal server error" response when there is a problem with my php script. For example, if there is a semicolon or closing brace missing, it should cause the script to die with a hint about which line caused the script to stop working. Instead it displays nothing but a "500 internal server error" message.
