I have it working fine when tftp and dhcp are installed on the same server but when trying to forward to a remote tftp it does not work. Dnsmasq insist on giving its local ip.I have added to config:dhcp-boot=pxelinux.0,pxetest2,192.168.0.130and I tried with and without the original hcp-boot=/var/lib/tftpboot/pxelinux.0Not much on this topic on the google nor on the dnsmasq homepage.
View 1 RepliesI have a media server with all my music and movies on it. Right now I have mediatomb on it serving up files to my ps3. They are on the same LAN. Is there a way to accomplish the same thing, but have them on different networks? Can I tell the ps3 to search an external IP addres on port 2222 to look for a media server?If that won't work (I doubt it will), is there another way to do this? I am moving to Germany in 5 months for work and I Won't be able to bring my media server with me. I'm taking a bunch of stuff to my parent's to avoid rent and all....So I could just hook the server up to the router, set it to forward a port and have access to it.

I've just set up a Ubuntu 10.04 LAMP server and put a couple of websites on it.It Seems to be working fine except that it won't serve any images.It apparently served a 3787 byte response which was not received by netcat! Not even headers.It's not the usual-permission etc as there is no line in the error log about this request.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been rtying for a couple of days now to set up a local dns/dhcp server with dnsmasq on a ubunut server 10.04 I followed the basic instructions from several websites, starting with the ubuntu community one, didnt work, then tried some other, and nothing.
In the server the dns works, i test with dig example.com and i can see the time difference, so dns is working. so the problem is not making the dns work but to make the server listen for dns and dhcp resquests and respond to them.
I have desactivated the dhcp from the router so thats not the problem. making a windows box ping the server works, so the network is configured correctly.
dnsmaq is listed as "LISTEN" on netstat, i read in some blog that it should be using ports 67 and 68 but those are no listed, neither i configured them in any moments, none of the instructions i followed mentioned sth about that. i even tried configuring the window box with the ips and dns accordingly and that wouldnt work either.
so in conclusin i have dnsmasq that does have dns set up but wont answer to any requests of either DNS nor DHCP.
When I try to pxe boot a Sun X4100 (which actually has a RHEL OS on it right now) I get the message TFTP open timeout. All traffic is allowed for port 69 udp in both directions. I do get a dhcp address. I see that both on the server and the client it gets an IP. After that I get this message in the logs:

I am trying to build a file server with RAID 5 over a couple of 1TB HDDs, to serve about 10 client machines using Ubuntu Server. I already own a 22-port switch: HP ProCurve v1810G-24 Switch (J9450A), which I am assuming will do the job. And for the actual server I am thinking of buying: HP ProLiant DL120 1U. Will this hardware suffice, or am I missing something important to get the whole thing running?
View 9 Replies View RelatedOn a Lucid server, dnsmasq is happily running DHCP together with a local DNS; although, in setting up NFS, I seem to have a small problem... I have /etc/exports referencing the hostname of the clients but these IPs change when the DHCP lease is renewed. Unless I restart NFS or run exportfs, I cannot mount the exports on my clients. I know that it would be good to make the all the addresses static; however, I was wondering whether there is another way to configure NFS such as possibly adding in a script to continually monitor /var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases and re-export accordingly?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've tried, but now I give up. I'm trying to run Apache on FC9. Nothing fancy, no extras, just the default installed apache. [correction, I have coldfusion installed, however the service is not running] I've set the Listen variable to every combination I could think of, with no success. I can set it whatever I like (such as my local IP) on any port other than port 80. If I try to set it to 192.168.x.x:80, it gives me the error message:
Starting httpd: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 192.168.x.x:80
I've run netstat commands to try and find applications listening on port 80 and found nothing. Whenever I chose a port other than 80 to get the service to start successfully, I am able to serve pages locally. But even with my ports forwarded correctly, no one outside the local network can see it. I've checked with nmap that my machine is opening the ports and even cheated, disabling the firewall during testing to ensure it was not part of the problem.
I noticed while locally nmaping my server that whenever I set Listen 192.168.x.x:8081, 8081 is opened, as well as normal port 80. When I stop the httpd service, both those ports are simultaneously closed. Why is httpd opening port 80? I'm assuming this is related to why I cannot assign Listen to port 80. If I run remote scans from sites like www.nmap-online.com and www.canyouseeme.org, nmap-online will report filtered on ports 80 and 8081 if my httpd is running, and if httpd stopped, 80 is closed, filtered 8081.
Can you seem reports success on ports 80 and 8081 if httpd is running, fail if httpd is stopped. I'm sure thats all a lot of information cluttered in to all that. To summarize, I cannot start my httpd server on port 80, and I cannot ever see my webpages beyond my local network. Am I missing something extremely is simple and I'm just over looking it?
I have been trying to get a home server to do what i want but just not getting there.I only need it to serve up the files to a home ( non internet ) network.I saw that filezilla also comes in a Linux version also. I am going to give it a try next. Anyone use the linux version of filezilla ? What happened did it work not work ?

I pretty much followed every step but commented out these two lines from the /etc/xinet.d/tftp.

Do we really need the lines if I am allowing any machine to connect? And I have only 1 network card. This is acting as a dedicated TFTP server.I ask as I get an error on the get and put commands as below:

tftp: aborting
However although it gives an error it DOES GET the file.The put command however does NOT put the file. I have nobody / nogroup setup for the directory permissions as well.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Jaunty (9.04) I've setup a small (eleven-terminal) ltsp network at the local school. It handled around 6600 working hours with ease.
Now I've upgrade the server to Karmic Koala (9.10) and it just stopped working.
1) The clients have PXE NICs
2) They get the proper IPs from the DHCP server and respond appropriately to changes in the DHCP configuration files.
3) DHCP server also points the clients to
filename=/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.0
4) When the clients try to download the pxelinux.0 over tftp they just timeout
5) /etc/inetd.conf has an entry like
tftp dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/in.tftpd /usr/sbin/in.tftpd -s /var/lib/tftpboot
6) The file /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.0 exists on the server
I'm lost at all these configuration files and protocols.
I have checked several tutorial sites, to no avail. I can't seem to get Winpe 3.0 to boot over tftpd/pxe.Has anyone successful done this using Ubuntu 9.10?, or am I just wasting my time trying.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to install Ubuntu LTSP on top of an already existing system. However, I want to use a different DHCP and TFTP server. Do I simply just install 'ltsp-server-standalone' with apt and run 'sudo ltsp-build-client', stop the DHCP and TFTP server and stop them from starting automatically? Would I then just copy over the pxelinux.cfg/default file from /var/lib/tftpboot along with the initrd.img and vmlinuz images to the TFTP server?
Edit: Do I need to actually copy the whole /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp directory over to the TFTP server?

You are running tftpd as an on demand server i.e. it is only fired up when it is needed. Services run by xinetd are always run on demand. Have you actually tested if tftp on another system can access your PC i.e.

I am fairly new to ubuntu server, I want to setup a tftp server to mount a new kernel in a DaVinci platform. I was following the guide in this page [URL]..docs/linux_tftp, but accidentally I remove the xinetd.conf file. So I think that maybe removing and reinstalling xinetd the problem will be solved, but instead of that I can't completely remove xinetd and the follow message is print in the terminal

with that problem I can't start the service or stop it, I am blocked in the configuration of tftp server.
I am downloading some files via tftp from the server (call it my server) and I need the server to be case insensitive to the file names requested. That is If I request "SoMe.TTL" and the actual file name is "some.ttl" it should send "some.ttl" back! Right now it is case sensitive and is a pain in the but because some windows clients upload files to that directory and the names can have any case. Furthermore, the file request mechanism must allow the user to input the required file name, hence the user can write using any case. Can the tftp-server solve cases by it's own? How about dnsmasq's internal tftp server? Ok, maybe I wasn't explicit above:

I'm usually not that fussy about security, assuming my 80 and 8080 ports are closed (and, well, also the other ones).Anyway this evening I was just logging into PHPMyAdmin when I found the default username was a string of garbled characters. When I entered PHPMyAdmin, I was greeted with the message

Planning to build a basic home sever running Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit. My aim is connect an audio/video cable from the TV set top box, to the server's video/audio in ports (may have to buy a capture card that works with Linux).
I don't necessarily need a TV tuner (I think). I was hoping to have a simple video/audio capture card. If I can do this, how can I then let Ubuntu "serve" that video and audio stream to other Ubuntu PC's in my home?
I heard about MythTV. Can it take those AV streams and "send" them over my Wi-Fi to other computers?
