Fedora Servers :: Apache Configuration And HTTPD Services

May 29, 2010

I have Apache Server working online under Fedora Core 6. But before I installed and configured everything, I've been testing in Fedora 12. The problem surges here, when I start the httpd service, every supuse 404 action on a web browser, takes me to localhost. I mean, if I enter google.com, no error, just goes to localhost, http://asdasd, no error, gives back localhost. I used to ignore the problem 'cause I thought it was a problem on my apache, but when I installed the Server on the Fedora Core 6 machine, I found that I have the same problem there. Of course, it only occurs when I am browsing through the same machine that has httpd started. Does anyone know how to change that??

Fedora Servers :: HTTPD Fails To Start On Boot

Aug 24, 2010

I'm completely stumped by a problem with httpd in Fedora 13. It fails to start on boot: I can see: Starting htpd: FAILED, in /var/log/boot.log, but I can't find anything else in messages, audit.log or anywhere else that gives me any clue why. The weird thing is that running:
run_init service httpd start
after boot _works_ and the server runs fine, but even when it's running OK,
service httpd status
reports
httpd dead but subsys locked

I'm guessing that the problem somehow relates to selinux, but I can't find anything in the audit logs that gives me a clue. How to turn on more logging so that I can get closer to the problem. I finally discovered the cause. This system was originally configured to use network services directly, without NetworkManager. It had been upgraded a number of times since installation. It seems that over time, if you have turned off NetworkManager, the defaults have changed. Used to be that the network services was 'enabled' by default (hence started at run time). Now, the default is 'disabled'. Httpd couldn't start because there was no network to start on. Enabling network services at boot time fixed this. I guess I should have noticed this. But one might think that httpd failing to start because of the lack of a network might at least give a warning message in the logs about the reason.

Server :: Change Of Apache Httpd.conf Doesn't Work On CentOS/RedHat?

Jun 30, 2010

I've been trying to make install apache 2.1.8 and php 5.2.3 and work on them. After updating and installing some dependence files, apache and php could both be installed.

Then I tried to configure them. I added the following content to the end of Apache httpd.conf:

Code:

Then I run /path/to/apachectl start, and saw the message:

Quote:

Invalid command 'RewriteEngine', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration

Then I remembered that I didn't include the rewrite module while making install apache. So I removed the 2 lines I just added to httpd.conf.

But, after running /path/to/apachectl stop and start again, I could still see:

Code:

When I use firefox to open http://host_ip:8080/, I could see "It works!". But when I open http://host_ip:8080/hello.php (the file is already under htdocs), firefox said
Quote:

Failed to Connect

Why and how to solve it?

I noticed that for some stupid reason, the conf file wasn't updated at all and the 2 erroneous lines were still there.

Ubuntu Servers :: Apache Processes Listed But Httpd Not Running?

#count lines that show apache2 but not the fgrep itself
let i=`ps aux | fgrep apache2 | fgrep -v grep | wc -l`
if [ "$i" -gt 0 ]
then
#log something

[Code]...

It has all been working fine until recently when Apache is becoming unresponsive. I manually ran ps to check and there were 3 processes. However when I ran apache2ctl graceful I got the message 'httpd not running, trying to start' Is there a better way to check if a daemon is up?

Fedora Servers :: Apache Won't Start After Installing Openss

Sep 3, 2011

I'm running Fedora 15. I installed mod_ssl and tried restarting Apache. I get the following error:

Code:
(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:443
(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:443

no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs I rebooted the server, thinking there was some process in the background that was stopping Apache from listening on 443. Same problem.

I ran:

netstat -A inet -lnp and lsof -i tcp:443

I remove mod_ssl and Apache starts.

The other question I have is what to do with /var/www/html

In the default install, root:root owns it, but I want people to be able to ftp in to that folder and write to it without using the root account. I'm thinking of changing the group to apache and putting the ftp users in the apache group. What is the recommended behavior here?

Fedora Servers :: Apache Doesn't Resolve Hosts?

Nov 2, 2009

Recently my home PC crashed and I had to re-installed it. I put a "clean" install of Fedora11, then copied my /home directory and some other stuff over from the old installation.I have a couple of PHP scripts I wrote, and one of them stopped working. It uses cURL, and when I enable error tracking I get:cURL error number:6cURL errorouldn't resolve host 'www.host.com'I started digging around and I found out Apache doesn't resolve anything at all, so it's not only a cURL problem. For example,

$ip = gethostbyname('host.com');
echo $ip; die();

returns "host.com" and not an IP address.My best guess so far is that Apache has no access to the DNS service (from command line and in browsers everything resolves). had a suspicion it's a SElinux issue and disabled it, but that didn't change anything.I found some old forum posts mentioning problems with chroot-ed Apache, but I haven't done anything to mine and in any case couldn't figure out what the problem was, or the solution, so I'm stuck.

Fedora Servers :: Cannot Start Apache - No Read / Write Access To HTTP Files

Jan 14, 2009

I am trying to setup my webserver and I am trying to make a website to run under suexec but somehow I cannot start my apache it directly fails and SELinux is giving me errors and don't really know what to do with it, it is giving me some command to type but not sure if this will make my server less secure. The SELinux error is as follow:

Code:
Summary:
SELinux prevented httpd reading and writing access to http files.

Detailed Description:
SELinux prevented httpd reading and writing access to http files. Ordinarily httpd is allowed full access to all files labeled with http file context. This machine has a tightened security policy with the httpd_unified turned off, this requires explicit labeling of all files. If a file is a cgi script it needs to be labeled with httpd_TYPE_script_exec_t in order to be executed. If it is read-only content, it needs to be labeled httpd_TYPE_content_t, it is writable content. it needs to be labeled httpd_TYPE_script_rw_t or httpd_TYPE_script_ra_t. You can use the chcon command to change these contexts. Please refer to the man page "man httpd_selinux" or FAQ [URL] "TYPE" refers to one of "sys", "user" or "staff" or potentially other script types.

Allowing Access:
Changing the "httpd_unified" boolean to true will allow this access: "setsebool
-P httpd_unified=1"

Fix Command:
setsebool -P httpd_unified=1

I will write down how I did setup my server so maybe you can see a mistake I did. First I changed my Apache httpd.conf I added the following to it:
Code:
NameVirtualHost 192.168.1.2:80
<VirtualHost 192.168.1.2:80>
ServerName localhost
DocumentRoot /var/www/html
DirectoryIndex index.html index.html index.shtml index.php
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost 192.168.1.2:80>
SuexecUserGroup ulyaoth ulyaoth
ServerAdmin webmaster@ulyaoth.org
ServerName test.ulyaoth.org
DocumentRoot /var/www/ulyaoth/www/html
ErrorLog /var/www/ulyaoth/logs/error_log
CustomLog /var/www/ulyaoth/logs/access_log common
DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.shtml index.php
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /var/www/ulyaoth/www/cgi-bin/
<Directory /var/www/ulyaoth/www/cgi-bin/>
AllowOverride none
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
Options +execCGI
AddHandler cgi-script .cgi .pl
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>

Then I created the username "ulyaoth" with the group "ulyaoth" as I specified with my suexec, then I created all the directories as specified in my httpd.conf and "chown ulyaoth:ulyaoth (dirname)" them to the right group and username.

Red Hat / Fedora :: How To Let Apache Know Which Httpd.conf To Be Used

We have apache installed at a directory other than the default location. There are two httpd.conf files on the server, one at the apache installation directory, and the other one is the default one at /etc/httpd/conf. The apache ran very well with the customized httpd.conf before, but after I installed php 5, the server seems taking the default httpd.conf and doesn't display the html pages which are installed at our apache directory. How to let the server know not to use the default httpd.conf and use the customized one instead?

Second, i want directories that do not have an index.html file to be auto indexed. This is where its not working for me. I get a 403.

the only change from the default setting in the httpd.conf file is AllowOverride AuthConfig

it would seem that the default settings for are

Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny

Fedora Servers :: HTTPD Dual Nic Using Eth1 Instead Of Eth0

Mar 2, 2009

I've just setup Fedora 10 x64 on a Supermicro 7045 with dual nic; I setup a web site and ran into a strange problem; I can't see my website from outside my LAN; checking IP on Internet it sees my IP as coming for my dynamic IP (IP of router/switch) and not my static IP.

eth0: Static IP
eth1: Dynamic IP

These are standard Intel 82563EB Dual-Port Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

Is there a way to specify the order in which it sees the nic ports?

I'm wonder if I can mix Static and Dynamic IP's; on the outside they resolve to a static IP; the dynamic one shows up as my router/switch IP; but it allows me to access my DHCP computers; this isn't a web server; but a development machine for writing PHP apps.

Where 123.123.123.3 is my static IP address.

I should mention that nmap -v -p 80 123.123.123.3 shows an open port on 80

My VirtualHost is setup like:
