Fedora Networking :: Manager - Nm-applet Crashes Regularly - Disconnects Every 10 Minutes

Nov 23, 2009

With Fedora 11, I got NetworkManager, and it never worked right.. Right now, the nm-applet crashes regularly, no message nothing, just disappears from the panel. I wrote a two-liner to run it in an infinite loop. But my wifi also disconnects every 10 minutes. It's like clockwork, it just disconnects. I see things about "error 38" in the logs. I tried downgrading, upgrading, nothing helped.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connects Fine, Then Disconnects Regularly?

Wireless connects fine, then disconnects regularly. I thought it might be an issue with the rt2870sta driver, so I blacklisted it, and it uses rt2800usb now:

Code:

Fedora Networking :: F13 KDE Intel 4965AGN Disconnects Every 10 Minutes

I have recently installed Fedora 13 on my laptop, an Acer Aspire One D150. The laptop has an Intel 4965agn wifi card which worked flawlessly under Fedora 12. Now however it keeps disconnecting every 10 minutes, even if I browse the web. On top of this, it also becomes very hot, so hot that you can feel it through the plastic case.

Fedora Security :: Firestarter Firewall Manager Keeps Crashing After About 5 Minutes. Restarts, Runs For A While, Then Crashes?

Apr 12, 2009

Have homebrewed machine, was running Fedora 8. Installed Fedora 10.Firestarter firewall manager keeps crashing after about 5 minutes. Restarts, runs for a while, then crashes.Thought it might be an IPTABLES turf war with the native Fedora 10 gui firewall manager, so disabled that at System > Admin > Firewall. Also disabled SElinux. Still have problems.Firestarter firewall seems to work OK, just the gui Firestarter monitor/manager.If anyone has ideas as to cause, I'll take a clue.I could use Firestarter to generate the IPTABLES by ..manually editing the /etc/firestarter/inbound|outbound/allow-.. files and then../etc/init.d/firestarter restartBut I find the events log useful to look at. Anyone know where the events log file is kept in the file system?

Ubuntu Networking :: Netgear Adapter - Slow & Disconnects - After 5 Minutes

Nov 30, 2010

Just installed yesterday - and I love it so far except my wireless turns on for about 5 minutes, then disconnects.

In order to get internet back I have to either restart or uncheck "Enable Networking" and then recheck it.

I will try to provide as much information, but like I said I am new to Ubuntu and there is some things that are completely different from what I'm used to on Windows:

Wireless Adapter: Netgear RangeMax Next Wireless PCI Adapter WN311B

Additional Driver its Using: Broadcom STA wireless driver

Fedora Networking :: Network Manager Disconnects After 2-3 Seconds But It Works / Fix It?

Jul 3, 2009

I'm currently on F11, and experienced problems with Network Manager. Whenever I to connect to a network, wired or wireless, it just seems to try to connect, and then after 2-3 seconds, it just reports "Disconnected"..

Then I switched to network, and both wired and wireless works. so I don't think there is any driver or hardware issue...

Does anyone have any idea of this problem? The network manager have worked on the live CD version ( before installed to HD).

Fedora Networking :: Network Manager Applet Missing And Could Not Connect To The Internet

Aug 1, 2010

I have just started using fedora 13 and I am not sure if i am in the right area but here goes...today I was online in my fedora 13 partition on my laptop and I had been online for quite a while then I shut down my machine to recharge the battery then a couple hours later I turned it back on and all of a sudden my network manager applet was missing and I could not connect to the internet, I opened firefox and tried to get to my homepage but it basically just told me that I wasnt connected..

I suspected at first for some strange reason that MAYBE it was my NIC so I booted up into my vista partition and low and behold the internet works fine, so the problem is on the linux side, I have tried every command nm-applet but it just keeps saying an instance of nm-applet is already running, I have no clue how to restore the network manager and get my internet back and the only other piece of information I have is that earlier today I did do a bunch of security updates but the internet was working fine all day even after several reboots through out the day.

Fedora Networking :: Network Manager Crashes Parsing VPN Keyfile

May 28, 2011

I just did a yum upgrade from F13 to F14 to F15. According to /var/log/messages NetworkManager crashes trying to parse a VPN keyfile:

Code:
NetworkManager[2519]: ifcfg-rh: parsing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 ...
NetworkManager[2519]: ifcfg-rh: read connection 'System eth0'
NetworkManager[2519]: keyfile: parsing VPN Connection UDP ...
NetworkManager[2519]: <warn> caught signal 11. Generating backtrace ...

I'd like to remove this VPN config in hopes that NM can init and run, but I cannot figure out where this configuration is stored.

Fedora Networking :: Network Manager Crashes After Upgrade (Backtrace)

May 29, 2011

I was running F15 for a month now. After this week's updates NetworkManager crashes at startup and throws a backtrace. During reading ifcfg-<wifi network name> it was throwing some assert() failed of some hash is not null, but just as a warning. Later it was dying while reading ifcfg-eth0.

I removed all the ifcfg-* files in /etc/NetworkManager and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
Then NetworkManager started but at the moment I used the gnome applet to connect to a network it crashed trowing a backtrace (I have no debuginfo installed).

Then I also deleted ifcfg-* in /etc/sysconfig/network/profiles/default and /etc/sysconfig/network/devices, now the NetworkManager does not crash anymore, but instead gnome applet crashes when I try to connect to a network. grrr...

As a result I am still unable to connect to any network. Why so many copies (hardlinks?) to these config scripts? Now it is even worse: I rebooted the system and at the boot time when NetworkManager starts the boot process freezes. It says in VPN the Get() method is not implemented. I am unable event to switch a console and to log in to put the config files back (getty not started?).

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Disconnects Every Couple Of Seconds?

Jun 7, 2010

Basically upon logging network manager will connect to my network, and most of the time it will only last 20 seconds or so before it disconnects and tries to reconnects, this tends to go on for quite a while. Logging off and logging on over and over worked once, for this post I opened pages between the 15 seconds that i was connected and after 20 minutes it has remained connected (every time it stays connected for longer than 5 minutes it will never disconnect again) I followed the HOWTO thread so forgive me if most of this information is useless

i just installed open suse 11.3 after using linux mint 7(based on ubuntu 9.04).i am currently using two internet connections at home, the first is a vodafone mobile modem, which is workind excellent, and the other is a LAN network, that on windows uses a *.exe program to run. i managed to make all the IP, NETMASK, DNS settings and the internet connected, but without the .exe program it just disconnects after 10 minutes.this is the same thing that happens with the connections on windows if i start the computer and not run the "net.exe" program, but if that program is running the internet connections works just fine. i tried using wine to run net.exe, but it just gives an error message.

Networking :: WI-FI Undetected By Network Manager Applet

Feb 26, 2009

I recently acquired an HP2133 netbook. It comes with SUSE 10 enterprise desktop pre-installed. WI-FI was working fine, though a slight pain for asking for the key every time. I thought I would apply all updates I could find and that may improve my networking.Having applied all I can find the wi-fi is now broken. If I use YaST I can see the Broadcom internal device seems to remain recognised, it even has the configuration I set for my wi-fi network access. The problem seems to be the NetManager applet, which denies all knowledge of wi-fi now and only has wired (which is working).Ironically the update causing the failure was applied wirelessly.I am slightly at a loss how best to proceed - I was going to cut my losses and make another boot partition with Ubuntu, but the live CD I made failed to run so that I could make a flash boot version, I shall have to return to that.

I have also now discovered that SUSE 10 is a bit long in the tooth - I sort of assumed it was current, given I bought the machine recently. So I'm wondering if it would be best to take the hit and reformat completely? I know it is broadcom, so should not be a problem, and I have been through ndiswrapper and the like in the past, though somehow I seem to have forgotten all about it now!I was happy enough with the SUSE setup and this is highly annoying as I was only updating to fix an annoyance and now the wifi has been broken... Perhaps there is an alternative applet to the netmanager that may play with the card and allow me to connect to networks?I look forward to recommendations, at this time my primary objective is to restore wifi functionality, longer term perhaps I need to review distro and installation, but I should like to do that on a dual boot basis I think

Tried installing WiCd, WiCd did appear but couldn't find any networks. I had installed restricted drivers previous, decided it was worth another look. Found that Broadcom STA Wireless Driver wasn't installed. Tried to install, it said it couldn't and said I should review the var/log/jockey which is....excessively long.

This has happened with 9.04, 9.10 and now in 10.04. Another question is, are Network Manager settings (ip) and /etc/network/interfaces do correspond to same thing or not? As I have narrated above, since network manager applet is no more visible how to see the physical network cable connectivity status (as we do in windows xp)?
