Problem: In Fedora 7 picture offset about 5 mm to righ on screen. I solved this with xvidtune and insert modeline in xorg.conf. In section Monitor..... I'm not sure. Why I can't use this trick in Fedora 12?

Using xrandr to set resolution at 1366x768, I get the right dot pitch but the screen is still 800x600 px wide, left-top aligned on a 1366x768 display, so that I see a 168px black belt on bottom and a 566 black belt on the right. A vertical screen offset of 168 px affects also the pointer (touchpad) in the following way - I can move and see the pointer arrow all the display wide including the black region, but input (click) is taken for a position 168 px above the pointer visible position.
This is happening after having used the laptop with an external projector and gtkwhiteboard (wiimote based infrared pointer management). I then removed gtkwhiteboard to no effect.Everything works fine when booting in failsafeX, recovery mode. Here is output of uname -a

I tried the new flash 10.2 beta in the hopes that they actually improved things, but it doesn't seem like they have.
1) Video's still seem to go to the 0,0 position with multiple monitors. Always the left screen.
2) Clicking on the non-fullscreen monitor still causes the fullscreen to exit.
3) My video is still offset and shifted on players like ....., probably due to screen resolution.
I have an NVIDIA video card attached to my LG plasma TV by vga cable. My display is offset slightly with some of the left-most and top-most area of the screen out of range with an equal amount of black/unused screen to the bottom and right. Is there a way for me to recalibrate my display to correct for this?

Today I decided to customise my Ubuntu by installing my own picture over the default picture used in the log-in screen. I did a search and found it (in /usr/share/backgrounds). I looked into it a bit and found that the image was a .jpg with the name changed to a .png extension. I though I copied the title of it but must have hit the wrong button.
I put my picture in the folder. I then copied the name of the file, then deleted it. I went to paste the name over my new picture, and then found that I had hit the wrong button to copy it. When I delete things I usually hold shift to perma-delete it, so it isn't in the bin. Oh btw, I did this before in 10.04 and it worked in case anyone wants to do the same. It just needs to be a .jpg file, renamed to end with .png

I have the latest version of ubuntu, my problem is my desktop background is black, when I shut the PC down the desktop background (the picture set as my background) flashes up, (the picture will change when I change the background). Looks like the black desktop background is hiding it. Also when opening emails with attachments the attachment opens then gets covered with the black background.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was trying to fix my audio driver so that my speakers would work after installing Linux Mint 8. I rebooted it to see if it worked but the computer won't boot up. It gets past the toshiba screen and the mint logo shows up like normal, but then I get what I think is an error message. I can't be sure though because the screen is not showing a solid picture. If I hit escape, I get another similar screen. If I hit escape again the screen goes blank and I can no longer get it to do anything. I'm new to Linux and not much of a computer wiz.

The laptop is a samsung X30 and i spent days trying to install ubuntu 10.04 unsuccesfully as there was no clear picture on the screen, just a black and purple splodge. I then saw a post on these forums discussing the default resolution of ubuntu and how it is incompatible with some machines so via VGA cable i connected it to my TV and sure enough i could see what was going on and finished the installation process. I assumed that once ubuntu was fully installed i would be able to change the resolution using the monitor preferences but none of them worked. Boot sequence is starting, CD is spinning, HDD is blinking but after few seconds little picture appears on the bottom of the screen with "a keyboard key = person in a circle" ?? View 3 Replies View Relatedi had just edited a picture in digikam that was going to be my new desktop wallpaper.when i went into system/preferences/appearance to make the new change it would not show the new picture that i had just edited as a choice to change my new wallpaper to. then i tried closing the appearance box and it would not close.then i shut down and restarted and when i bring up the appearance box it does not let me click on anything within.also can't close it.seems like other applications are working normally.

After struggling with various 2 TB hard drive failures, I started using the Hitachi Deskstar and Ultrastar models, and had none of the earlier green feature related or QA problems I had with all others. However, I began seeing SATA controller freezing under heavy loads, like large rsync mirror operations. My controller is an on-board ICH7R running in AHCI mode. The symptoms are that the drive goes off line and begins to log thousands of SMART errors for Spin-Up Retries. Analysis confirms that the drive is 100% OK after, except for the huge SMART log. This happens on two servers, and multiple drives. Changing the drive to 1.5 Gbps interface speed reduces the problem greatly but does not eliminate it.
I'm working with Hitachi engineering on this, and their only theory is that it has to do with "non-zero buffer offset". Apparently this is a feature of NCQ to receive data out of sequence, and Hitachi says that ICH7R is supports NCQ but not this feature. I am told that BIOS is supposed to filter offending commands but BIOS vendors sometimes err. An alternate is to filter them at the driver, which I believe is libata. Does anyone know anything about this issue? Where might be a good place to make a query about this, with regards to libata? I've contacted the motherboard vendor about the BIOS issue, but I'd like to look into libata also.
When i stream on sites like ....., megaupload etc. it's fine However when i try to put it into full screen the picture is all funny looking I just installed suse on my others computers and one of them seem to be only having this problem.

And I have to add pictures to these pages. I don't know how to do even that I don't know web programming or HTML. But my images are about 1 mb in file size - I use to have windows and photoshop and there is this save for web feature where file size is reduced.I have this GIMP -program now - it's terrible compared to photoshop, but it's free. In GIMP there is no feature how to reduce file size for ex. 1mb to 20 Kb. How do I do this? Do you know any good program to do it?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a MS Lifecam Vxx3000. I have managed to get the video to work in SKYPE, but I have to use an external mic. I have checked a lot of places, but could not find anything that works. PulseAudio Volume Control recognizes it, but I cannot get any sound out. I was using Audacity to test this. I can get my external mic to work in Audacity. When I change the options in Audacity and pick the webcam mic as input, I get no sound input.

After taking a first look onto internet under Fedora linux (using Firefox web browser) I've saw that every single image is displayer much much worse than in same Firefox under Windows. Especially when scaling, it became pixelized, but even without scaling it is smoothen very much. I've checked Konqueror but quality is bad too and the same as in Firefox. What could be the reason and how could I fix it?
BTW, everything in linux GUI looks a little worse, including font, etc, looks smooth. Images under IrfanView too, but not as bad as in browsers. Proprietary Nvidia driver from RPMfusion is installed and 3D works. But running Fedora under VirtualBox in Windows produce same bad quality as in native Fedora.
I've recently bought a Toshiba Satellite U500-10V and I've managed to get F12 work on it pretty well. However, I still have some minor issues. One of them is related to PDF document rendering.Basically, every picture in a PDF document is distorted or grainy(I don't know if this is correct English ^^"). 1. I can go to a flickr page and see the first picture fine. When I use the browse buttons and/or try and change to another picture, firefox crashes.
2. When viewing pictures in facebook (the only reason I use it is to share pictures with my far-off family who doesn't get to see my kids often) the pictures are very badly pixelated.
I'm using an Acer Aspire laptop (Intel 915 graphics, celeron processor, 1.5GB ram) with a completely up to date Fedora 12 installation. The weird part is, my wife's netbook, (1GB ram, Intel 945 graphics) with Fedora 12, displays everything fine. I'm cometely stumped how one machine is having such issues while another isn't. This problem existed in F10 when I used up until the F12 release so I'm presuming it is a graphics card problem (???) since the software and OS has changed.Does anyone know what might be going on or how I can check?
