I upgraded to F12 recently and due to SELinux I installed OpenOffice from repo. Now, I open an .ods file I made with orig. OpenOffice 3.1.1 on F11, and find that the font has become bold italic all through the 13 sheets and I can't change it. How can I change it to back non-bold, non-italic? I've looked through Options, but can't find anything useful for this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have to send CVs to people as Word docs. I compose them using Linux Libertine font. This means that if I send them as they are, they will almost certainly be viewed in a completely inappropriate font. I have tried creating a copy converted to Times New Roman, but the result is inferior. I am also uncomfortable with this because I tend to end up with the originals the copies out of sync. I would rather have just one doc file for each type of CV.What I would like to know is:
1. Is there a serif font that all MS Office users are certain to have that is a less scrappy looking alternative to Times New Roman? It doesn't have to look identical to Linux Libertine, but none of the other MS core fonts look right.
2. Is there a way of specifying a generic serif font as a substitution in Word docs created in OpenOffice Writer like there is in HTML?

I've been squinting at the screen for a little while now but it's just proving to give me more of a headache and hurt my eyes than anything. I'd like to use Terminus as the font instead. I found that CUPS uses Courier as the default font for text files, so somewhere Courier is being aliased to DejaVu Sans Mono, and I have no idea where.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been having a few problems with OpenOffice.Org and the language settings.
I'm using the latest Fedora 11 and OpenOffice.Org 3.1.
When trying to change the interface language from en-us to en-gb there isn't an option for en-gb at all in the drop-down, despite me reading that other people have been able to switch the interface to en-gb. This doesn't matter that much, since it's only a few words but I think it might be affecting another issue of mine.
Despite having en-gb set for my dictionary settings, I still get the Americanised words. Stuff like: internationalised vs. internationalized, colour vs. color. I've even installed the Oxford English Dictionary extension but that doesn't show up in the dictionaries.
Edit: I've tried searching the repos. for en-gb langpacks but I can only see the general 'en' English one. Yet I can see there's an en-gb lang pack on the OpenOffice.Org website [URL] but I thought you're meant to use the repos. where possible.
Edit 2: I feel a bit stupid now, it's under uk not en-gb. 'openoffice.org-langpack-uk'. Still doesn't solve my dictionary issue Americanised spellings should come up as red underlined.
I keep forgetting to change the font color to black in OpenOffice.org in Lucid. This is a pain when printing, but the bigger problem is with writing up formulae. How do you change colors in Math (or make it default to black)?

Then after installing it, I realized not only did firefoxes fonts look terrible, the fonts on the entire system were totally different, they look terrible.
So I uninstalled all the new programs, removed the new moz repository, and then reinstalled the regular firefox 3.5 from regular ubuntu repos. Dropped all support software down to 3.5 as well. System fonts are still totally fubar!
I tried creating a .fontconfig file with the text from the threads, supposedly to fix the new firefoxes fonts, and it did not help.
As my fonts looked absolutely wonderful, now they look terrible. I tried messing with all the settings in the appearance tab of the gnome menu, nothing seems to help!
Regular firefox is back, and running fine, but its fonts and all the rest of the fonts on the system look horrible, like they are not getting aliased/hinted at all!
Is it possible to get a package that makes the OpenOffice drop-down for font selection use the fonts so that i can compare them? I seem to remember it is but can't remember the package name. I am really looking for something like the MicroSquish Font "Monotype Corsiva". I am currently using a LiveCd of Ubuntu 9.04.
View 2 Replies View RelatedStill ironing out the kinks in a new install of Fedora 12.For some reason I am not able to change the icons, colours or font size used in the Nautilus file browser. While I am able to change these settings in System>Preferences>Appearance, changes just don't affect the Nautilus file browser, which continues to use the default Fedora icons in blue and 9 pt. Sans as its font no matter what I do. On the GNOME desktop I am able to adjust fonts and sizes, but when I change the icons, settings do not stick after a reboot.
I have tried deleting the ~/.gconf/apps/nautilus directory, downgrading nautilus, even removing and reinstalling it entirely, but to no avail. Tools like gnome-color-chooser affect the panel and desktop, but just don't have any effect on the Nautilus file browser. Why?This looks to me like a permissions issue possibly? The situation could be affected by the fact that the settings in /home were inherited from a previous installation of another linux distro.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to upgrade a headless terminal server like box from Etch to Lenny. Users log in to this box using a GoGlobal client and use applications such as OpenOffice and Iceweasel. Because of the ended support for Etch we want to upgrade this machine to Debian Lenny as soon as possible and in order to save time we decided to dist-upgrade instead of installing a new machine. I've done this upgrade in a test environment and everything is working as expected except for OpenOffice, which seems broken after the upgrade:
The problem seems to be caused by the anti aliasing features of OpenOffice and disabling these features in the options panel (Extra -> Options -> OpenOffice.org View -> Screen font anti aliasing) fixes the UI somewhat:
However, as can be seen in the last screenshot, disabling anti aliasing makes the whole thing look terrible. I've searches the net for solutions such as this one but so far I've not been able to fix this. Is there anyone who can point me towards what has changed in the way fonts are rendered since Lenny and what might cause this breakage for OpenOffice? Other applications such as Iceweasel work perfectly and look better then before.
i'm attempting to know and understand fedora more and i will spend probably the next month pouring through all the forums and documents to answer more of my own questions. but there's quite a bit here, so i'd thought i'd ask some noob questions to get me started a little.
ive installed fedora 14 64bit and chosen only kde as the desktop. i selected an extra 2 repos besides the default, fedora 14 -x86_64 and fedora 14-x86_64 -updates. i believe this kernel is installed: 2.6.35.11-83
1. i can only see the 2 extra repo's as being "checked" in kpackagekit, shouldn't i see the default repo also ?
2. i dont have an applet in the system tray indicating the system is up to date, does fedora have this by default ? also after a clean install i ran yum check-update and yum update but the message sayes: "no packages marked for update". i'm not sure if the system is auto-updated during install or not, but with other distros iv tried there is always atleast a few updates needing to be done after install.
3. is kpackagekit the fedora gui package manager ? i dont see any others.
4. i want to upgrade to nvidia drivers, but i think i am missing a non-free repo or something. when i enter: yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 i get messages stating "no package" i get the same message with yum install nvidia-settings.i also tried this: LANG=C yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree info akmod-nvidia but it sayes repo not found.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn all previous versions of KDE I had Console8x16 set as KDE font for all cases (Settings->Appearance->Fonts). After tonight upgrade, this (only!) font is not working. I can see it in font manager, I can set it in ...Appearance->Fonts, but actually remains default font. Two of about 30 attempts somehow (can not reproduce) succeeded to set "console 12" font, but it disappeared after restart.
1. What can be the problem in 4.4?
2. In /usr/share/fonts tere are 3 files named console8x16.pcf, console8x8.pcf and console9x15.pcf, but in the font list in Appearance->Fonts I can see only 2 - one named "Console" (seems to be 8x16 and "console" (8x8). File 9x15 does not appear at all. Why?
Last results of attempts: cannot use console font in part of areas, while part works OK. For example: kdevelop editor, kmail message body text works OK. But kmail other parts - does not. The most interesting is that although setting the kmail body message text to console displays the message body text correctly (with console font), but the example message in "Configure kmail" dialogue "The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog" is displayed in the default font, as if there is no console font!
I'm running OpenSUSE 11.2 on my Acer Aspire One with a 9 inch LCD. I have configured the monitor in Sax2 to reflect the size and 1024x600 resolution, and as a result the desktop fonts are all sized correctly.
However, the fonts on the KDM log-in screen are too large, and I'd like to reduce them if possible. Looking in the KDE Control Center, I tried using the Login Manager utility to adjust the KDM theme, but any changes I made seemed to have no effect i.e. changing the font size, or even the overall theme itself, still resulted in KDM using the default green OpenSUSE theme with large fonts.
Does anyone know, therefore, how to adjust the KDM font size or DPI in OpenSUSE 11.2?
Is it possible to change the font of the system, and how do I do this? Will this change the font for everything aswell?
View 3 Replies View RelatedNot the gnome-terminal fonts... That's easy... How about the font faces on tty1-6? I tried Slackware once... It was way back in my Linux experience so it struck to me as a clumsy and ill-managed operating system despite that the fact is the exact opposite... Well, as it appears, Slackware did have something about changing the console font since it mostly focused on terminal, you know, it booted up in terminal by default, for starters. Anyway, since Ubuntu is Linux as well, I guess there must be some way of changing the font face for the terminals, eh?

Is there somewhat to change this? The fonts are too small and I have vision problems. I know I can hit ctrol ++ but with other distros I can change the deflt font size for the system. I am using openSUSE 11.3 and like it very much except for this lack of a feature.

:set printfont=Courier 10
:hardcopy > myfile.ps
OR
:set printfont=Courier 8
:hardcopy > myfile.ps
OR
:set printfont=Luxi Mono 8
:hardcopy > myfile.ps
It says in the help for printfont that the font NAME (i.e., the typeface) is ignored (which seems stupid, but at least they tell you that) but the SIZE is not. The part about the size not being ignored seems to be a lie. More importantly, is there a way to change the output typeface to something else?
