Nov 5, 2009I'm a student in a linux class and we just installed fedora. so far it's nice except that the work we do is in the CLI which I can barely see because it's so small on the screen! I've been squinting at the screen for a little while now but it's just proving to give me more of a headache and hurt my eyes than anything. Anyone know how to change the font size so that I can actually see the work I'm doing?

Jan 27, 2010Whenever I use lpr on the command-line to print a text file, it uses DejaVu Sans Mono as the font. Is there a way to change this? I'd like to use Terminus as the font instead. I found that CUPS uses Courier as the default font for text files, so somewhere Courier is being aliased to DejaVu Sans Mono, and I have no idea where.

Dec 1, 2009I upgraded to F12 recently and due to SELinux I installed OpenOffice from repo. Now, I open an .ods file I made with orig. OpenOffice 3.1.1 on F11, and find that the font has become bold italic all through the 13 sheets and I can't change it. How can I change it to back non-bold, non-italic? I've looked through Options, but can't find anything useful for this.

Dec 1, 2009Still ironing out the kinks in a new install of Fedora 12.For some reason I am not able to change the icons, colours or font size used in the Nautilus file browser. While I am able to change these settings in System>Preferences>Appearance, changes just don't affect the Nautilus file browser, which continues to use the default Fedora icons in blue and 9 pt. Sans as its font no matter what I do. On the GNOME desktop I am able to adjust fonts and sizes, but when I change the icons, settings do not stick after a reboot.
I have tried deleting the ~/.gconf/apps/nautilus directory, downgrading nautilus, even removing and reinstalling it entirely, but to no avail. Tools like gnome-color-chooser affect the panel and desktop, but just don't have any effect on the Nautilus file browser. Why?This looks to me like a permissions issue possibly? The situation could be affected by the fact that the settings in /home were inherited from a previous installation of another linux distro.

Fedora :: Upgrade To KDE 4.4 And "Configure Kmail" Displayed In The Default Font No In Console Font
Feb 25, 2010In all previous versions of KDE I had Console8x16 set as KDE font for all cases (Settings->Appearance->Fonts). After tonight upgrade, this (only!) font is not working. I can see it in font manager, I can set it in ...Appearance->Fonts, but actually remains default font. Two of about 30 attempts somehow (can not reproduce) succeeded to set "console 12" font, but it disappeared after restart.
1. What can be the problem in 4.4?
2. In /usr/share/fonts tere are 3 files named console8x16.pcf, console8x8.pcf and console9x15.pcf, but in the font list in Appearance->Fonts I can see only 2 - one named "Console" (seems to be 8x16 and "console" (8x8). File 9x15 does not appear at all. Why?
Last results of attempts: cannot use console font in part of areas, while part works OK. For example: kdevelop editor, kmail message body text works OK. But kmail other parts - does not. The most interesting is that although setting the kmail body message text to console displays the message body text correctly (with console font), but the example message in "Configure kmail" dialogue "The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog" is displayed in the default font, as if there is no console font!
OpenSUSE :: Change KDM Font Size On 11.2?
Nov 16, 2009I'm running OpenSUSE 11.2 on my Acer Aspire One with a 9 inch LCD. I have configured the monitor in Sax2 to reflect the size and 1024x600 resolution, and as a result the desktop fonts are all sized correctly.
However, the fonts on the KDM log-in screen are too large, and I'd like to reduce them if possible. Looking in the KDE Control Center, I tried using the Login Manager utility to adjust the KDM theme, but any changes I made seemed to have no effect i.e. changing the font size, or even the overall theme itself, still resulted in KDM using the default green OpenSUSE theme with large fonts.
Does anyone know, therefore, how to adjust the KDM font size or DPI in OpenSUSE 11.2?

Jul 11, 2010Not the gnome-terminal fonts... That's easy... How about the font faces on tty1-6? I tried Slackware once... It was way back in my Linux experience so it struck to me as a clumsy and ill-managed operating system despite that the fact is the exact opposite... Well, as it appears, Slackware did have something about changing the console font since it mostly focused on terminal, you know, it booted up in terminal by default, for starters. Anyway, since Ubuntu is Linux as well, I guess there must be some way of changing the font face for the terminals, eh?

The fonts are too small and I have vision problems. I know I can hit ctrol ++ but with other distros I can change the deflt font size for the system. I am using openSUSE 11.3 and like it very much except for this lack of a feature.

May 30, 2011When printing from VIM, is it possible to choose a font other than Courier 10 for the hard copy output? For example, the following commands produce the same postscript file:

:set printfont=Luxi Mono 8
:hardcopy > myfile.ps
It says in the help for printfont that the font NAME (i.e., the typeface) is ignored (which seems stupid, but at least they tell you that) but the SIZE is not. The part about the size not being ignored seems to be a lie. More importantly, is there a way to change the output typeface to something else?
General :: Get A Stroke Font On The Desktop?
Aug 3, 2010What i want to do is to have a stroke around my desktop font ( a black one ) since my screen wallpaper is kind of gray and the texts on it get really invisible.
I would like to know if i can do this only on the desktop fonts, since everything else looks fine.
I know it's really a hell of a lot easier to just change my wallpaper ( or edit it in GIMP ) but my moto on Linux has always been "If it can be done, why don't do it" ( I hope is sounds good in English too )

Jul 17, 2010I just installed openSUSE 11.3 (Gnome). I am using Korean language, but I don't want to make Korean language as my default language. So I installed Korean lang as secondary language. It works well.But the problem is Korean font. Actually BEFORE installing the language, the font look much nicer. But as soon as I installed the language, the font became ugly.Even if I uninstal the language, the font still remains the same (ugly).
Where is the font setting for other languages stored? It would be nice if I can set default fonts for Korean language manually.

Nov 1, 2010I have the bug with the nvidia drivers breaking the theme in 10.10. Solved it as described here: I had the same problem with GTK theme: for some reason it defaults to "Raleigh" (instead of "Ambiance") with nvidia drivers. I fixed it by adding the following in my .gtkrc-2.0 :

Ubuntu :: Change The Font In All Applications Except For Nautilus?
Jun 17, 2011I have recently decided on leaving the default Ubuntu font behind for something different.
Going to Main Menu > System > Preferences > Appearance and clicking on the Fonts tab I am able to change the Application font, Desktop font, and Windows title font from Ubuntu to my new choice of fonts.
It looks great everywhere but Nautilus. It is pretty on the menu, taskbar, desktop, and everything else, but not in Nautilus. Too hard to read and type of the filenames and folders.
As such, I'm looking for a way to change it everywhere else, using the methods above, but not in Nautilus. Anybody know how?
Similar, I was able to find this posting, and using the method described below, it merely allows you to change the desktop icons, not the rest of Nautilus, which you could do using the method I mentioned above anyway.: [URL]

Jun 20, 2011I am running Ubuntu 10.04. When I first installed it, the virtual terminals had a good font size. After a few weeks, I set the visual appearance setting to normal (in the gui desktop). Doing this required me to install third party graphics drivers from nvidia. in installed fine, and my gui desktop still functions as I would expect, however, all of the virtual terminals now have a much larger font size, as does the ubuntu boot logo.
