Fedora :: No Sound Output On F12 (Fully Updated)

Mar 2, 2010

I am getting no sound output on Fedora 12 (fully updated). If I switch to Windows Vista (which is also installed on the same machine), everything is fine. So, I guess I will have to configure sound from somewhere. Where should I start?

Fedora Hardware :: Brother MFC 5460CN Not Print On Fully Updated F12 System

Apr 5, 2010

I am unable to get a Brother MFC-5460CN printer to print on a fully updated F12 system. Everything looks normal in Administration | Printing. All fields match the format shown on the Brother site. The printer status is updating correctly so there is communication to the printer. But jobs just queue and eventually show as printed but nothing is actually printed. There are no other printers. Here is the output in /var/log/messages from plugging in the printer and trying to print a document:

Code:
Apr 4 21:23:34 localhost kernel: usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 4

Apr 4 21:23:34 localhost kernel: usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice .....

I followed the instructions on the Brother Linux drivers page and all the rpms loaded without error. But the log is showing some type of key problem.

Can't get anything out of my rear motherboard connectors.I also have a bluetooth headset which I have successfully paired but which doesn't show up as a sound device in pavucontrol.

Fedora Hardware :: No Sound Output / Get That?

Jan 1, 2011

I'm not sure where to have posted this but I can't seem to get sound.
After typing ' lspci ' I got the following code...

I'm using a LCD monitor through the HDMI port, and I have no sound, nor through the audio port. (Both of).

Also, I have tried Alsamixer but nothing is on mute and I turned them up to the fullest. Here's a screen-shot of what HDMI gives me in alsamixer:

Seems HDMI won't allow me to go over 00 volume?
What am I doing wrong, or have not done?

Fedora Hardware :: Low Sound Output At Every Restart

Jan 20, 2010

I am using fedora 12 (omega 12.1 remix), after installation I got very very low sound output and I dreaded it was to remain this way. Then I did some searching and found this command in a linux site 'alsamixer -c 0', I turned up everything and yippee I had sound. But now the problem is at each restart the settings are defaulted to a low output. How can I make the change permanent? Can I call alsamixer command and give 9-10 up keys as its input in bashrc. Well I am just guessing.

Fedora Hardware :: SPDIF Output Does Not Work On Sound Card

Dec 27, 2009

I have just bought a new PC with an ASUS M4A78-AM motherboard with integrated VT1708S 6-channel sound chip in it, so I freshly installed fedora 12 without any issues However, I can't get the surround sound working. I have searched many forums a lot, and haven't found any solution yet.It seems that even the SPDIF output does not work on this sound card, and that is what people talk about on almost every forum / mail list. So I was unable to find almost ANY information regarding ANALOG surround sound.

The motherboard has 3 jacks on it - green for FRONT / 2 speaker set; blue is the line in OR THE REAR-SPEAKER out, and pink is the microphone OR side speaker out in the 6-spk configuration. My speaker configuration is 4.1 [2 front, 2 back and subwoofer]. Line out does not produce any sound.I have uninstalled pulseaudio [sudo yum remove pulseaudio]Now alsamixer shows a lot of controls, but even if I unmute line out and set it to max, it is still not producing any sound.

Ubuntu Installation :: Updated NVidia Drivers Cause - Sound Got All Fuzzy/scratchy

Jun 2, 2010

I just installed 10.04 (64 bit, in case that matters) last night. I have onboard sound and video, and they working fine until I installed the proprietary drivers for my video card. When this happened, my sound got all fuzzy/scratchy. I can go back into the Hardware Drivers and remove the proprietary ones and then the sound is fine. My problem is that I want to use better drivers for my video, but not at the sacrifice of sound quality. I went to the nVidia site, and they have drivers from April 24, 2010 on there, but there's a couple problems with that. I don't know if they are any different than the ones I already installed through Ubuntu, and I don't know if they will cause the same issue. Since I'm fairly new to linux, installing the drivers from the .run file seems like more of an undertaking than I want to do right now, and I don't want to mess anything up and not be able to revert my changes. With the Hardware Drivers utility, I can easily remove the drivers and the sound works, but I don't know if that will be the case.

I have an ECS GeForce7050M-M motherboard. I can't really find specifics for chipsets, but the nVidia site detected a GeForce GTX 480 for video. If I recall correctly, my audio is some Realtek HD thing. I had this same problem when I tried 9.04, but I didn't narrow it down to the nVidia drivers at the time.

Fedora :: XFCE Over VNC Not Fully Starting Up

Sep 3, 2010

I have a Dell box that got a fresh install of Fedora 13, along with XFCE during the initial installation, and it works just fine from a local monitor/keyboard/mouse setup. Now, in wanting to setup VNC to allow a remote XFCE desktop, it's not quite starting up properly:

The result is that I'm able to connect to the VNC session from another computer, but all I see is my XFCE desktop pattern image, and the XFCE mouse cursor (not in a spinning 'wait' state; I know it's the XFCE mouse, since my VNC client has a simple dot cursor that gets overlaid over the XFCE cursor, and I can move the mouse around the screen and the cursor follows); no menu bar, no tool bar, no desktop icons.I've tried changing the last line of my xstartup file to "startxfce4 &", and "startx &" with the same result. Is there a log file I can look at that would tell why XFCE is not fully starting up?

Fedora Networking :: Can't Communicate Fully With Other Computers ?

Oct 20, 2009

I downloaded and installed a new copy of Fedora 11 last week onto a new computer (hereafter "proximate"). I also have a remote computer without a monitor running an outdated version of Red Hat Linux (hereafter "remote"). To manage the processes on remote graphically, I ssh from proximate into remote; this connection succeeds without incident in transmitting text (including commands) between the two computers; however, the command "gnome-session" returns: (gnome-session:15789): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

(The numbers apparently represent the process identifier and vary from instance to instance.) A similar warning (and no accompanying graphics) occurs whenever I attempt to start any graphical user interface from remote via ssh from proximate. The issue almost certainly lies with proximate; remote successfully communicated graphics to the ancient box that proximate replaces.

Interestingly, I cannot communicate via ssh from remote to proximate (within a secure shell from proximate to remote). If I execute /usr/sbin/sshd on proximate as root, then I can login, but even then I cannot execute any commands.

Consider the following output:

If I execute ssh -vvv proximate from remote to proximate, then I get a lengthy output that ultimately ends with "debug1: Exit status 254."

What must I do to communicate both text and graphics among my computers?

Fedora :: Cannot Fully Access Repositories Behind Proxy ?

Jul 2, 2010

I have a problem accessing repositories behind my proxy. Another problem, I have no access for that installation right now, but I do remember what I did.

First, this is fresh install Fedora 13 with KDE. I manually added IP, subnet mask, DNS, to network manager. Then, manually added proxy settings to SystemSettings/ NetworkSettings/ Proxy. After that,

Also, in /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repos and i686.repos (I mean, Core repositories and Standard one) I commented out "fedora" address line, and uncommented "mirror".

Now I can, for example, yum install wine, but yum install unrar fails totally (not found), and yum install mc (midnight commander) shows error, where I can copy address or rpm, and make localinstall then.

Fedora X86/64bit :: 11 Takes 45+ Minutes To Fully Boot

Jun 22, 2009

Machine Specs: Asus P5B Deluxe w/ Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, 8gigs of ram and an Asus GeForce 8400 GS. I downloaded and installed the x86_64 DVD Installation disc for Fedora 11 the day of the release. I allowed the installer to utilize 100% of the disk with the default partition configuration. I only installed KDE.

Upon first boot the machine didn't boot in under 20 seconds, but it wasn't slow enough to give it any though. Once logged in, everything ran great. The system has been running great since the launch date. I rebooted once or twice since them and thought the same thing as the first boot, not particularly fast, but not slow enough to care.

This morning I rebooted and it almost seemed broken. It takes about 20 minutes to get past the loading bar, and way too much time to log in. When the loading bar is going I hit escape. It looked like "Starting system message bus" took the longest, but it wasn't the only slow thing. After some more time, the background for the log in prompt appeared. Once the log in prompt fully appeared I mistyped my password. It took a good four minutes to authenticate unsuccessfully. I reentered my information correctly. It took another four minutes for the prompt to disappear, then it continued to load very slowly.
