Fedora :: Nimbus Theme - Controls Or Widgets Get Unthemed

Feb 26, 2009

I can compile and get nimbus-0.1.7 installed, but the problem is when I choose the nimbus theme (via Appearance in Gnome) the "Controls" or Widgets get unthemed, and an error displays: "This theme will not look as intended because the required GTK+ theme engine 'nimbus' is not installed." The window manager theme seems to install OK, it's just the controls.

Ubuntu :: Where Are The Theme Graphics For Window Controls Stored

May 1, 2010

Where are the graphics stored for window controls? They change with the theme, so they must be part of the theme graphics. Specifically I'm looking for these: In Lucid's Ambiance theme, they're little plus and minus boxes. I prefer the rotating arrows and want to edit the theme to replace them.

Fedora :: Mouse Theme / Only Some Symbols Change / Other Stay Standard Theme

Feb 21, 2011

I updated my laptop from F12 to F14 via preupgrade. After doing so, the standard mouse theme was active. So I installed the one I like again and set it as mouse theme. For some reason it is now a mixture of the one I installed and the standard theme. If I open a place in nautilus the displayed symbol is the right one while waiting, if I open something in control center I get the standard icon. Same problem with drag and drop, I always get the hand from the standard theme. I also tried the former standard theme Bluecurve and it was the same problem.Can anyone tell me what goes wrong with the theme? What has changed in F14, that the older themes won't work?

Fedora :: Index.theme Does Not Appear To Be Valid Theme

Jun 27, 2009

I'm running Fedora 11 x86_64 (GNOME) and I'm having a problem installing ANY themes from http://art.gnome.org. Any time I try to install a theme I get an error that it's "appears to not be a valid theme" When I first click the install button and navigate to my theme packages, I don't see the [dot] theme file, which is a red-flag. I change to "All files" and I tend to see an "index.theme". Is this the correct file?

Fedora :: Starting Without GDM - Switching To Openbox/fluxbox And 3rd Party Panels/widgets

Jun 4, 2011

I installed Fedora 15 on my netbook the other day and I decided that I will remove everything but the absolutely needed to make things lighter, faster and less time/power consuming. I thought that GDM isn't needed on a single-user machine. Maybe I can remove it and have a script run on boot and take care of (auto-)loging in and starting the DE? (Xfce, but I plan switching to openbox/fluxbox and 3rd party panels/widgets etc). Is it possible? (and does it worth it?)

Fedora :: F12 - Gnome Title Bar Controls?

Mar 13, 2010

It's hard to tell for sure if this is related to a recent update or not. There've been a bunch for sure In any of the GUI the title bars, there used to be 3 boxes on the right end. Minimize, Maximize and close. They're gone. Totally vanished for all users.

L click on the icon near the left end of the title bar or a R click anywhere on the title bar brings up a menu with such options (and others), but I sure do miss my 'close' button!

Fedora :: Missing MKP3 Controls In 64bit Version

Nov 2, 2009

I have Fedora 11 installed on two different machines, one 32 bit and the other 64 bit. If I play an mp3 file in the 64 bit system---it doesn't seem to matter which player I use---then I can only start, stop, or go to the beginning or end of the selection. I can't advance the stream to some intermediate point. The slider display showing the position is greyed out. The same programs on the same file in the 32 bit system work normally and allow me to advance the position by using the mouse with the slider. This may have something to do with how gnome is configured on the two machines, but I can't figure out what is different.

Fedora :: Unable To See Controls On An Embedded Video Using Firefox

Nov 16, 2009

I have embedded a video into one of my website's pages but when I go to the page, using Firefox, the video, which plays automatically, has no controls for play, pause, stop etc which means you have to exit the page to stop the video (if you don't want to watch at the time) It is also the same where it is uploaded to [URL] or Hideho Takagawa When viewing through either Seamonkey, Opera or even Konqueror the controls are visible on both places. here's the embedding code I used.

Code:

<OBJECT ID="MediaPlayer" WIDTH=400 HEIGHT=300
CLASSID="CLSID:22D6f312-B0F6-11D0-94AB-0080C74C7E95"
STANDBY="Loading Windows Media Player components..."
TYPE="application/x-oleobject"

[code]....

Edit: I've actually found the solution, I had more than one mozilla plugin installed and as soon as I left myself with the gecko plug in everything works fine

Software :: Difference Between Fedora And Ubuntu (pulseaudio) Volume Controls

Feb 3, 2011

Newer versions of both distributions are using the new pulseaudio volume control (I'm not referring to pavucontrol but the main volume control accessible via the volume icon in the panel). However, even though both distros' versions have the identical interface, they clearly do two different things. I've searched for this topic before and have come up with nothing; makes me wonder why no one else seems to have an issue with this.

For Fedora (12 and up) the main slider for the sound card's volume does just that, although the sliders for individual applications use the same "scale." If I drag an application's slider higher than that for the sound card, the "main" slider moves along with it.

In Ubuntu (Lucid and later) the main slider is the same as Fedora's, but the individual applications are scaled differently. Dragging an individual application's slider all the way to the right (100%) sets the maximum volume of this application to that of the sound card, whatever that happens to be at the moment.

In this respect, Ubuntu's individual sliders are relative to the (arbitrary) value set for the sound card, but Fedora's individual sliders are "hard-wired" to the main slider. I'm wondering if it is possible to make Fedora's volume control behave like Ubuntu's, i.e. is there a configuration setting, or is this designated in the source code? I'm sure there is a heated debate over why things are this way in Fedora, however with the new pulseaudio systems, the minimum value for the main slider for my sound card is pretty loud and this makes most audio unlistenable in Fedora, at least through headphones without an on-board volume control.

Ubuntu :: Current Theme Defaults To Silver Theme For No Reason Randomly On Login

May 4, 2011

For some reason, from time to time on login, as my normal theme starts to load, it changes to some sort of silver theme (a very basic one), and I am unable to change it over to any other theme. Checking the theme being used, it still says my desired one is set, but it is not. Also, no matter what theme I change it to, that basic silver theme is the one being used. This includes a default icon theme, not the one I prefer.

The only option that seems to fix things is a restart, and the hope that on this login it won't mess up like before.I am using Natty, from a fresh install, with Ubuntu Classic as my desktop, and have reinstalled things more than once to try and fix a few of the Natty-related issues, but this one keeps coming back.

Debian Multimedia :: Dark Theme Vs Light Theme

Aug 4, 2011

I enjoy using vim from lxterminal with the black background, as well as awesome with its dark theme. I configured xfe manually to be darkish, and i use darklooks as a GTK theme to suit it as well. I could say all my desktop looks pretty dark, which my eyes thank me for. I also use redshift.But problems come along when surfing the web. Most web pages (including this one) have very bright styles. They are not the problem themselves, but switching from my windows hurts my eyes since it's a quick change to a much brighter screen.What would you do, either:

1. Use everything with a brighter background and putting the screen brightness a bit lower. (changing the GTK theme to clearlooks, using lxterminal with a white background, etc.)

2. Use some color theme with uzbl so that pages would look much darker. (like when you set manually the text and background colors in Firefox/Iceweasel)

I would myself go with the second one if most pages wouldn't look that bad when modified that way. For example, many pages use non-transparent images with white backgrounds on white pages, so if you change the background to black not only it looks horrible but it too is a mess.

Even tried a new installation with re format of root, (but retaining /home,) thinking that I would get all back to how it was, but no, the fresh installation has the widgets still missing. Is it possible the desktop configuration is on /home partition?

Is there a way to add widgets to a Gnome screensaver? I think this can be done with KDE 4, but I've never liked KDE very much. I'm a programmer and comfortable with writing code if needed.

I'd like to be able to:

See the weather and forecast
Control Rhythmbox
Use a flash card widget for reviewing musical concepts

The reason I want these on the screensaver is that I have login restrictions. I would like to be able to do a very limited subset of activities without having to log in.

OpenSUSE :: Move Widgets On Launcher Panel?

Jun 2, 2011

This question concerns the system panel/launcher panel / the panel with the launcher that normally appears across the top or bottom of the screen. The default system panel layout was nice, but, I screwed it up by accidentally deleting the task manager. I put the task manager back but now my clock & system tray are to the left of the task manager, and, I can't just drag things around. Is there a trick to organizing the widgets on this panel or is it broken? Every time I try to move something, it basically ignores me and adds it to the right of everything else.
