It's hard to tell for sure if this is related to a recent update or not. There've been a bunch for sure In any of the GUI the title bars, there used to be 3 boxes on the right end. Minimize, Maximize and close. They're gone. Totally vanished for all users.
L click on the icon near the left end of the title bar or a R click anywhere on the title bar brings up a menu with such options (and others), but I sure do miss my 'close' button!
I am using the X server of Fedora 7 for displaying my application.I am getting the display as I need but I dont want the title bar of gnome terminal titlebar to be displayed.I also dont want the maximize,minimize buttons to be displayed.

View 7 Replies View RelatedHow do i change the channel gnome-volume-control controls? I want it to control pcm but it controls master front. There used to be a setting right in the sound preferences but i think it disappeared with the 9.10 upgrade or at least i can not find it anymore. I've looked on the at gnome alsa mixer while changing the volume and master front gets controlled while pcm is always set to max. The problem with this is that master front does almost nothing to change the actual volume.
If i control pcm with the alsa mixer the volume range is fine. I've found a manual for gnome-volume-control on [URL].en and the pic there actually looks like i remember it looking. But i can not get to that screen. What i have looks completely different. Its a window with the tabs Sound Effects | Hardware | Input | Output | Applications. But there is no sight of any channel settings and the only slider there does the same as the applet one.
What I am trying to do is remove the title bar completely in gnome, it would be nice to be able to choose which applications had the bar and which did not, but I would be perfectly satisfied with just removing them from every window. I assume this is controlled by the window manager which would make it a metacity setting? Anyway, I have an 11in screen on my netbook and I cannot stand having such a big chunk of real estate wasted by such a useless feature, especially when I can perform all the window functions with keyboard shortcuts.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI don`t know what kind of combination of keys I pressed, but the title bar of all windows in my Gnome vanished. Trying to fix it, I unmarked the option "show menu bar" in one of my windows. Then, I realised I couldn`t put it back either. It`s kind of frustating be stuck in such a small problem, but Gnome isn`t offering me any easy way to put these things back in place. maybe with a keyboard combination of keys that recovers all of this?
I did it, it recovered Gnome windows default, but the menus are still gone. It just erased my customizations (colors, window color, bar size, etc.)
So I've been testing Gnome Do and I now want to activate docky. To do that I have to activate the desktop effects, so I installed drivers for my graphics card which work fine. But I have an infamous issue with my compiz which causes all title bars of windows to disappear. Is there a solution in which I can activate docky and still have my title bars?
View 1 Replies View RelatedUsually I open 5 terminals. And since each of those 5 terminals prints it's tile as: "username@username-laptop: ~" It becomes very hard to see what is what. So, I would like my terminal to always change it's title automatically to the program that I am currently using.
So, if I type "irssi", the title of my gnome-terminal-window, should change to: "irssi" for example.
Upon turning on compiz, all the title bars above windows are lost, I am using the drivers on NVIDIA's website for my Geforce MX 4000 and I am using gnome. I tried doing what it says here, but the title bars are still lost.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo when I upgraded to Slack64 13.1 on my asus MB homebrewed desktop and Slack 13.1 on my compaq presario a900 laptop, I started having issues with the xterm title (in Terminal--not Konsole) being too dynamic. By "too dynamic" I mean that I can't actually change the title. The dynamic title (from my .bashrc) is basically just pwd. Whenever I try to set the title (via terminal->set title (menu)), I changes it for a split second, and then reverts back to the dynamic title.
This is merely a petty annoyance, so to get around it, I added an xtitle function that I grabed somewhere online (just echos "�33]0;$*�07"). So for nano-ing some file, I'd type:xtitle some_file.txt; nano some_file.txt
That works just fine (kind of annoying to type though). running xtitle alone won't actually change the name either though (I'm pretty sure it's the same command as what terminal does anyway). That is, running: xtitle some_file.txt
changes the title for a split second, and the reverts back to my old pwd.What I really want is to have it dynamically name it "some_file.txt" whenever I use nano, but that appears to be a functionality of zsh (with the preexec() fxn).I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if you have a fix for it.
after upgrading from Karmic Koala 9.10 to Lucid Lynx 10.04, i notice something different with title bar on every window opened.
for example:
"Google - Mozilla Firefox" is not at the middle of the window title. and on Lynx it's on the left.
Everything worked 100% great untill I change color depth to 16 bits.I do not want 24 Bits, I want 16 Bits. I have good reasons. Never had this problem in Gutsy 7.10 ...I deeply regret in upgrading to 9.10 ...

Changes to xorg.conf file: Firstly, I saved it at 16 color depth with the sudo nvidia-settings and by clicking on the save to xorg.conf file Button. Rebooted computer....... It worked, saved file, and I got the following bugs:
*Cannot move windows by dragging their title bars.
*Cannot see close "X" Button in the title bar.
*Cannot see Minimize Button in the title bar.
*Cannot see Maximize Button in the title bar.
Went back to 24 bits and problem got resolved. Then i tryed: I did sudo gedit xorg.conf I changed all the 24's with 16's ... Rebooted computer....... It works GOOD... BUT: I got the same bugs from before. I will retype them below

View 1 Replies View RelatedI can compile and get nimbus-0.1.7 installed, but the problem is when I choose the nimbus theme (via Appearance in Gnome) the "Controls" or Widgets get unthemed, and an error displays: "This theme will not look as intended because the required GTK+ theme engine 'nimbus' is not installed." The window manager theme seems to install OK, it's just the controls.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Fedora 11 installed on two different machines, one 32 bit and the other 64 bit. If I play an mp3 file in the 64 bit system---it doesn't seem to matter which player I use---then I can only start, stop, or go to the beginning or end of the selection. I can't advance the stream to some intermediate point. The slider display showing the position is greyed out. The same programs on the same file in the 32 bit system work normally and allow me to advance the position by using the mouse with the slider. This may have something to do with how gnome is configured on the two machines, but I can't figure out what is different.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have embedded a video into one of my website's pages but when I go to the page, using Firefox, the video, which plays automatically, has no controls for play, pause, stop etc which means you have to exit the page to stop the video (if you don't want to watch at the time) It is also the same where it is uploaded to [URL] or Hideho Takagawa When viewing through either Seamonkey, Opera or even Konqueror the controls are visible on both places. here's the embedding code I used.

Edit: I've actually found the solution, I had more than one mozilla plugin installed and as soon as I left myself with the gecko plug in everything works fine
I've finally gotten around to installing Fedora 15 and I've been having some trouble with VLC. When it is maximized the title bar at the top disappears. The VLC window is also covering up the panel at the top of the screen. This makes it so that I have no way to minimize it or even restore it to a window once it is open. I also can't switch to other windows. So right now if I have vlc open the rest of my computer is completely unusable.
View 4 Replies View RelatedNewer versions of both distributions are using the new pulseaudio volume control (I'm not referring to pavucontrol but the main volume control accessible via the volume icon in the panel). However, even though both distros' versions have the identical interface, they clearly do two different things. I've searched for this topic before and have come up with nothing; makes me wonder why no one else seems to have an issue with this.
For Fedora (12 and up) the main slider for the sound card's volume does just that, although the sliders for individual applications use the same "scale." If I drag an application's slider higher than that for the sound card, the "main" slider moves along with it.
In Ubuntu (Lucid and later) the main slider is the same as Fedora's, but the individual applications are scaled differently. Dragging an individual application's slider all the way to the right (100%) sets the maximum volume of this application to that of the sound card, whatever that happens to be at the moment.
In this respect, Ubuntu's individual sliders are relative to the (arbitrary) value set for the sound card, but Fedora's individual sliders are "hard-wired" to the main slider. I'm wondering if it is possible to make Fedora's volume control behave like Ubuntu's, i.e. is there a configuration setting, or is this designated in the source code? I'm sure there is a heated debate over why things are this way in Fedora, however with the new pulseaudio systems, the minimum value for the main slider for my sound card is pretty loud and this makes most audio unlistenable in Fedora, at least through headphones without an on-board volume control.
I just got F12 and installed it on a new hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 1501. I have an AMD 64 x2 and an ATI Express 200M video card. I installed CompizConfig setting manager, which did nothing. I then installed Compiz Fusion Icon. This makes compiz work but once I start it all of my windows are missing the title bar. I'm noob and not a programmer but pretty good and figuring things out.In Emerald Theme Manager I can view available themes select them, edit them, etc. There seems to be no way to apply them. Am I missing something or is it just not working?

But the operation: xterm -T 'Some Title' does not do anything. Instead, the current directory is always displayed in the title bar of the window (on kde). owners out there they released the KindleforPC program today. As expected it's only Windows and (soon) Mac, BUT it WILL run on Linux under Wine with only a couple of oddities. (Such as not being able to see the text on dropdown menus and title bars. If you click into a book it'll load for reading, you just can't see any of the menuing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOn FC11 64 bit with Adobe flash plugin for Linux installed, I see segfault errors from "npviewer" in /var/log/messages. The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?

symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?
