Where are the graphics stored for window controls? They change with the theme, so they must be part of the theme graphics. Specifically I'm looking for these: In Lucid's Ambiance theme, they're little plus and minus boxes. I prefer the rotating arrows and want to edit the theme to replace them.
View 2 RepliesI can compile and get nimbus-0.1.7 installed, but the problem is when I choose the nimbus theme (via Appearance in Gnome) the "Controls" or Widgets get unthemed, and an error displays: "This theme will not look as intended because the required GTK+ theme engine 'nimbus' is not installed." The window manager theme seems to install OK, it's just the controls.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 10.4. After the upgrade I noticed the entire title barding the window controls to minimize/maximize/close a window disappeared.Resizing/moving a window is not possible either.At first I thought something went wrong with the upgrade, so I did a full reinstall, but using the same home dir (sda5 mounted to /home). The problem remains.
I can temporarily fix it by changing the visual effects to normal or extra, but each time I restart I have to do this again. The controls appear at the right side, opposed to the left side which I would have expected from this release.I realized that this must be something in my home dir, so I created a new user. For this new user, everything appears as expected, so it's most likely some configuration file left from 8.10 which 9.4 doesn't like
Yesterday I adjusted the position of the windows controls back to what it was before, by using the configuration editor to set apps / metacity / general / button layout to "menu:minimize,maximize,close". At the time everything seemed good, the buttons moved, and it all worked. This morning I rebooted back into Lucid Lynx Ubuntu 64 bit, and now I find there are no controls on the windows, and I cannot even click and drag them, or double click the title bar to maximize! I checked, and the string I altered is still the same. I can still move windows with Alt-F7 and the mouse, and can resize by dragging out the bottom right corner.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI cannot change my window controls to Ambiance theme when compiz effects are on. When I turn off compiz effects, theme selection works as a charm, but when I turn compiz effects on again, I get back to human-clearlooks. In Appearance Preferences -> Theme I can still see Ambiance is selected, but window controls are from human-clearlooks. Every theme changes only colors, icons, fonts etc, but window controls remain. And remain on the right side of window. Everything works as expected when I turn off compiz effects.
In CompizConfig Settings Manager -> Effects -> Window Decoration Command is specified to /usr/bin/compiz-decorator What can I do to have buttons of the left side? I tried to change in gconf-editor in apps -> metacity -> general -> button_layout to "close,minimize,maximize:menu", but it still has no effect on compiz
Running Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell PC. I recently installed a theme called Faezna and now Ubuntu always runs in low graphics mode
I have
-Uninstalled and deleted theme files
-Changed theme back to default theme
-Rebooted several times
-Restored graphics settings in low graphics mode (pre-boot menu thing)
The thing that makes it worse is that the theme never even worked in the first place and T never got to see it!
I got a new computer recently, and just now installed 10.10. Everything was going great.... until when I enabled the Nvidia drivers and set my dual monitors. While things still work fine, it appears I have no theme set (Aside from the Window Border).
When I check in System->Preferences->Appearance it always shows the theme properly for this one window, while all other windows, and gnome panels etc appear to have no theme set (just use simple flat colours, low graphic mode etc).
Changing the theme (via the Appearance window) does not work, nor does a simple reboot.
I recently went through a desktop crisis after removing unity from 11.04, installing openbox, hating it, and then installing Gnome 3. What's weird is certain applications like chrome and some other system things appear to use the theme I have (as in, they look nice) but windows like terminal, file browser, and most other applications including the default log in screen all look like windows 95.
you can see the square unstyled buttons. I'm just wondering how to apply a full on system theme to apply to all windows in gnome 3. tweak-gnome didn't look like it could do it, and after running through the themes (redmond, clearlooks, etc) they didn't have any impact on these windows.
I have some problems with Ubuntu 10.04. Sometimes system starts and there is no title bar on windows. Nothing helps, only logout and logina again. I've searched forums and found that it is possible to add line '/usr/bin/compiz' to starting applications, but this is not helping. I'm stuck. Other problem is that sometimes recently theme is changed. If I go to 'Appearance' then theme suddenly changes back.

It seems like X is having a hard time displaying whatever theme I chose.I want to manually switch back to Albatross but I am unsure of where that setting is stored. When I first connected I checked the checkbox that I wanted to store the pw. Now the pw on the other machine has changed but Remote Desktop Viewer does not ask for a new password, it just gives me a black screen, like I am connected but I can't see anything. I'd like to know if anyone knows where this pw data is stored on the system so I can start fresh. I already tried uninstalling Remote Desktop Viewer and installing it again.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, from time to time on login, as my normal theme starts to load, it changes to some sort of silver theme (a very basic one), and I am unable to change it over to any other theme. Checking the theme being used, it still says my desired one is set, but it is not. Also, no matter what theme I change it to, that basic silver theme is the one being used. This includes a default icon theme, not the one I prefer.
The only option that seems to fix things is a restart, and the hope that on this login it won't mess up like before.I am using Natty, from a fresh install, with Ubuntu Classic as my desktop, and have reinstalled things more than once to try and fix a few of the Natty-related issues, but this one keeps coming back.

View 1 Replies View RelatedStart xpdf or gv. Click an xterm to be active and slide it over xpdf/gv. Vertical lines from xpdf/gv under the xterm stick to the xterm window above and make it unreadable.
The problem does NOT show with KDE default settings with display effects on but does show in fvwm, xfce etc, and in KDE without effects.
On a system with a Sandy Bridge integrated graphics (i5-2400) the problem went away by downgrading to xf86-video-intel-2.13.0. But it was not enough for another system with 945G which needed downgrading to xf86-video-intel-2.12.0.
I want to use gtk-theme-switch to change my theme in openbox (would rather not use any gnome/kde/etc.. tools for this), but after installing it I cannot get it to run:

I installed a theme in emerald, and it didn't do anything, like, it had no effect on my windows or anything. So i did some searching and the only thing i could find was to run "emerald --replace" in the terminal, and it worked, but if I exit out of the terminal, it reverts back to the old theme.How do I keep emerald's theme, even after I exit the terminal?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI updated my laptop from F12 to F14 via preupgrade. After doing so, the standard mouse theme was active. So I installed the one I like again and set it as mouse theme. For some reason it is now a mixture of the one I installed and the standard theme. If I open a place in nautilus the displayed symbol is the right one while waiting, if I open something in control center I get the standard icon. Same problem with drag and drop, I always get the hand from the standard theme. I also tried the former standard theme Bluecurve and it was the same problem.Can anyone tell me what goes wrong with the theme? What has changed in F14, that the older themes won't work?
