I'm trying to search for more wireless networks but i cannot find a way to make network manager search for more wireless networks. It only displays 2 wireless networks and none of them is mine, even though I've got my wireless router at less than 1 meter from my PC.
View 2 RepliesA couple of weeks ago my laptop's wifi started acting up, to the point that it didn't function. When I click the nwManager icon to being up a list of available networks, it is empty. If I try to create a new network, with the credentials of my modem, it appears to work, and asks for the password. After I enter the password, it seems to work for about 30 seconds (much longer than normal) but then it prompts me again for the password. This cycle continues indefinitely.
I'm running Karmic on a Dell i1525. how to find out what wireless card I have.
I deleted all APs in my Wireless Section of network manager. After that, the whole network manager icon disappeared. I added the icon back on the panel, but I don't think its the right one. It doesn't do the two green cicles thing when I connect my ethernet wire in. It also doesn't show any wireless AP when I left click on the icon. It doesn't even have an X mark on the bottom left of the icon when no network is detected
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use network-manager-gnome to connect to my wireless networks, but I can only use it with a graphical environment, and it doesn't even work that well since it will drop the connection after a few minutes and I have to reconnect it manually, that means I cannot leave my computer downloading a big file all night since it will only download for a few minutes, does anyone know what package can I use to connect to my wireless without the need of network-manager, even if it's through command line?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have two wifi routers. If I stand next to the main one with my laptop I can connect and access the internet no problem. The other router is in my office, and the bridging is messed up, so while I see the essid and bssid using 'iwlist scanning' and nm-tool, I can't connect to it.
Now, my main router's signal still reaches to my office, just not as strong as the borked router in my office. I need to be able to choose which wifi network to connect to without wasting time walking between rooms. I added entries for both in network-manager, but it doesn't show them in the list when I left click the tray icon! How the do I connect to the network I want?
I have a problem with network manager. I use Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell Latitude D530. I used to have the same problem with Ubuntu 9.10 before I upgraded. I typically connect to two wireless networks: HOME and WORK. Both networks are set to automatic connection mode. I am at work, I connect to the network WORK. At the end of the day, I just close the lid and go home. At home, I open the lid and have the following problem: network manager still displays the network WORK whereas it is clearly out-of-range and it automatically tries to connect to it. It does so until network manager asks if the password is correct.
If I want to connect to HOME, I have to tell network manager to do so. Then, I receive a notification that I am disconnected to WORK. Next morning, I go to work, and I have the same problem, network manager tries to automatically connect to HOME. What I would expect from network manager: when I am at home, NM automatically connects to HOME and does not display WORK, when I am at work, NM automatically connects to WORK and does not display HOME.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been an Ubuntu user for a year or so. My level is still ultra n00b but I am trying. Whenever I update Ubuntu there is always a WiFi problem, always. So now I am having problems getting wifi to work in 10.10. In Network Manager I can view wifi networks fine but I cannot connect. I tried with wicd also but I got as far as "getting ip" and then it would hang up.

I am not sure what driver I am using as I don't know how to exactly ID my driver. I know there is a way to ID the driver using airodump-ng but I have yet to find it.
I have a feeling this is a driver issue as one time I was able to establish a connection that then dropped a few minutes later. I have a feeling I should be disabling/removing the current driver and replacing it with ipw3945 or possibly a driver ndiswrapped? The problem is I cannot figure out how to remove the current driver.
I was going to switch back to 9.04 but I thought I would try to manually figure this one out instead of taking the easy way.
I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell Studio 1537 Intel Core 2 Duo.Everything is going great so far save for the wireless internet. It won't detect any wifi signals. After some playing around I got the driver to work and the wifi light on the computer lights up but, I can't "enable wireless" and start looking for networks to join.I've also installed the bcmwl-kernel-source and, it recognizes my driver but, I can't connect to any wifi networks. They don't show up...

View 9 Replies View Relatedim just getting the hang of ubuntu 9.10, and then all of a sudden 10.04 comes over and screws everything up with the upgrade. i did the upgrade, and now the network manager wont show up in notification areas. any clue as to why? help is greatly appreciated. also, my machine does register that the drivers for wireless card is installed, and when i run lshw -c net command with sudo priveleges, it says it can detect networks, so im confused as hell.

I am a Windows refugee who discovered Ubuntu as a way to save my files from my virus-ravaged computer. Had no installation discs for Windows, so when I had to wipe my hard drive and start over, I decided to give Ubuntu a try. I've had mixed success, but that's another post...
Right now, the problem is that I installed 10.10 two weeks ago and was able to connect to the Internet with no problems - until yesterday. Suddenly, our wireless network (the only one in the vicinity) does not come up as available in Network Manager. In fact, the entire wireless option disappeared. I know there are many posts and threads on here about this, but weeding through them trying to find an answer is more frustrating than actually dealing with the problem. I know the router works because I can post on this forum from the Macbook. I really like Ubuntu and would like to keep using it, but not being able to connect to the Internet now on top of the other issues I've had is making me doubt I want to continue down this Linux road.
P.S. When I attempted an analysis through System Testing, it said something about there being no proprietary drivers?
I just got Ubuntu and I feel like there is going to be a really simple solution but right now I cannot find any information on a solution. I run 9.10 desktop i386 or w/e and I have a wireless connection. The network does not show up when I go the network manager to select a network. No networks show up and all it lets me do is create a new network connection which I have no idea how to do. I think it might have to do with my device recognition, but the network is fine it is just Ubuntu.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."
I have 10.04 installed on my HP MiniNote Netbook. If I plug it into the the ethernet directly, all is well, but if I only use the wireless, i get no DNS servers. And one of my wireless networks is on the same router as the wired connection. Also, wireless works just perfectly on my MacBook Air. So, I do not think it is the router. So why am I not getting DNS addresses? How would I set them manually? I can't figure out how to start network manager.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to set up a static IP on my laptop that connects via wireless to my home network. I have 11.04 installed on my laptop. When I try to use the manual IPv4 setting in the network manager the save option gets greyed out. I tried to edit the /etc/network/interfaces file but all the examples I could find on the net refer to eth0. I tried replacing this with wlan0 but this did not work. I tried installing wicd but I kept getting "Bad Password" errors even though I know the password is correct. A number of people recommended uninstalling network manager to get wicd to work but many other posts said that uninstalling network manager didn't help so I didn't want to go ahead and uninstall unnecessarily. Besides I figure if Ubuntu is distributed with network manager there must be a reason for having it. So what do I do to get a static IP address for the client on a wireless connection?
1. I went to network manager and selected "Connection Information" On the information window I saw the following:

To start off I have a Rosewill rnx-n2x wireless adapter and a Dlink 4500 router. The problem is, the wireless network manager detects every wireless router in the neighborhood, except mine. I see this persons, and this persons, but no "My router Not yours". I even tried doing the hidden network setup and still nothing.
I have read that the rnx n2x isnt supported by linux, although I've seen solutions to make it work (which didn't work, mkdir command kept getting denied during make) link to what I'm talking about: [URL]. What I don't get though, is that if the rnx n2x isnt supported by linux, wouldn't I not be getting my neighbors connections to begin with?
I'm not sure if I have two seperate issues or one inter-related issue. The Network Manager applet wasn't appearing in the tray, found out it wasn't installed. Installed, still didn't appear. Tried installing WiCd, WiCd did appear but couldn't find any networks. I had installed restricted drivers previous, decided it was worth another look. Found that Broadcom STA Wireless Driver wasn't installed. Tried to install, it said it couldn't and said I should review the var/log/jockey which is....excessively long.

In this case, network manager shows wireless disabled. I have installed the Broadcom B43 Wireless drive from Adminstration->Hardware drivers. No help! ifconfig does not
show eth1 and lspci tells me that the Broadcom BCM4312 Network controller is present.
Ive installed Ubuntu recently but none of my attempts to get the wifi network working were successfull. The network Im trying to connect to is hidden, so I have to input SSID manually, I doubt this causes the problem.
I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (both 64-bit) and my USB WiFi adapter which previously worked fine stopped working. The adapter is a Hama USB stick based on the Ralink rt73 chipset. I've tried using the Ralink drivers that come with 10.04 (both rt2800usb and rt73usb) but neither work. When I use rt2800usb, the adapter is recognized as interface wlan0, however I can't see any wireless networks. When I use rt73usb (and blacklist rt2800usb to avoid conflicts) I no longer have a wlan0 interface and there is no wireless adapter shown in the network manager. I've pasted in the results of lsmod, lsusb, and ifconfig -a (with MAC addresses removed) below.

I could use Wireless network. I could see several different networks in my range. Then suddenly the network stoppedworking, and I can no longer see any networks under "Wireless networks".The Wired networks works fine.I tried upgrading ubuntu, but nothing changed. Just to confirm, I rebooted the computer in Windows Vista (Dual boot) andconfirmed that Wireless worked fine there. No hardware problem then.The suggestions I have found on this and other forums suggest looking at the output from iwconfig and ifconfig. But since I'm a n00b at Ubuntu I don't know what to make of it.

So, after doing a 'yum update', I minimized the terminal and completely forgot about it - so I accidentally went ahead and suspended my laptop before it had finished. I resumed my laptop and noticed that yum hadn't finished 'cleaning up' the packages. Nevertheless, yum continued and the process finished. After an hour or so use of the internet (wirelessly), all of a sudden the wireless network disconnected, and NetworkManager crashed. I rebooted my computer only to find that NetworkManager now says that my 'firmware is missing' for my wireless card.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSince an upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04, all wireless devices for me in the plasma network manager applet are not functioning properly on a Dell Latitude E4310. Specific problem: No wireless networks appear in the plasma network manager applet. Manually-configured networks do not connect. A separate CDMA card appears, but cannot establish a connection. The CDMA card does function on 10.10 machines, and formerly worked on this machine. The only wireless 'network' that appears in the plasma network manager widget is 'hidden network'. Manually adding a network and checking "Connect Automatically" does nothing. I attempted a fresh install after the upgrade itself failed the work. There are no networks to click on, and selecting the device itself merely shows the status page.

I've been running Karmic since it was officially released on my Dell Studio 17 (specs are in my signature) with a Broadcom wireless half mini wireless card.hen I installed Karmic, it gave me the option to install proprietary drivers for my video card as well as 2 Broadcom drivers, STA and one of the BC43 drivers. I installed all of these, and the only problems I had were with the audio. I spent a few days troubleshooting the audio and finally got PulseAudio set up for my card.
Almost 3 months later, I was making use of my wireless network at home, as I had done plenty of times over the previous 3 months, when I closed the lid (thus putting the computer into sleep mode) and took it to the hospital to stay with my fiancé¥ after her surgery. When I got to the hospital, I couldn't get their network to show up. Network Manager didn't even recognize the network. We had also brought my fianc饧s laptop (same machine with a slightly less powerful CPU and only 4 GB of RAM). She is running Windows 7, which detected the hospital's network with no problems.After trying to ad-hoc the hospital network with no success, I finally just gave up and played Sudoku and toyed with some graphics stuff in GIMP until we came home. Upon returning home, however, I was shocked that my card didn't even detect our home network.
I have been unsuccessful for the past 3 days in getting Network Manager to identify our wireless network. The wired network connects without issue and I am able to make use of a USB Belkin adapter, which identifies all 7 of the various wireless networks in my neighborhood, including our home network.While I would be able to simply carry my Belkin adapter with me in order to make use of wireless networks, I would really like to solve this problem with my Broadcom adapter.
