Fedora Networking :: Connecting Android To Fedora Through SSH

Nov 30, 2010

I believe I have forwarded my port 22 correctly on my Belkin N+ router. I believe I have also set this computer to a static IP through the router. Is there a way to check or set up static IP and port fowarding on Fedora itself or is that all done on the router? I ask because when I use ConnectBot's ssh app on my android and connect from within the LAN to the computer 192.168.2.9:22 it says Connection lost, no route to host.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connecting To Android 2.2 Wifi Hotspot Makes 11.04 To Crash

Apr 29, 2011

I often connects my laptop (Asus EEE) to my HTC desire hd with the wifi hotspot. But this doesn't work since yesterday when I upgraded to 11.04. When I connect the laptop to the phone the screen on the laptop goes black with a lot of scrolling text then it freezes.

This worked out of the box without any problems with 10.10.

Fedora Networking :: Fedora Locks Up Connecting By Wireless To OpenWRT Router

Nov 16, 2009

I dual boot Windows/Fedora 11 on my Dell Latitude D830 laptop, which has an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card and I have just bought a Linksys WRT160NL wireless router. I am currently trying to set up OpenWRT linux on the router. Because of the nature of my problem I have also posted this on their forum.I am having trouble connecting to my OpenWRT install via Fedora. Things seem okay in Windows, but when I try to connect from linux my laptop locks up completely and I have to hard reboot. I previously have never had any trouble connecting to any other router with this install of Fedora.

Fedora Networking :: Wired Networking Not Connecting In 12 With Windows Internet Connection Sharing?

Jan 16, 2011

I just want to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to connect to the internet. I have done a massive amount of troubleshooting, but some of it seems to contradict itself, and the only two things that I know for sure are that it used to work, and that my Ethernet cable is not the problem. When I use Terminal utilities like ifup and dhclient it seems that it can not determine IP information, but when I try to put it in manually, the "Apply" button grays out right after I finish typing it in. When I try to connect normally, in KDE or GNOME, the icon acts like it's connecting, then instead of having the connected icon, I receive a notification that "the network has been disconnected", and it goes back to the disconnected icon.

Oh, and by the way, I know that I could probably find a workaround, but I have limited resources, and this used to work. The Linux is a Dell desktop with Fedora 12 and the Windows is a Windows 7 HP laptop.EDIT: I hope that I didn't mess something up, but I accidentally used system-network-config to try putting in the IP address there, and ended up changing it back to the original settings, but the computer is now calling it Auto Ethernet in the taskbar icon, although sudo iwconfig in the terminal still calls it eth0.

Fedora Networking :: Broadcom B43 Not Connecting?

Aug 2, 2009

Got up this morning and switched on theLinux Box and started getting wifi connect problems. I could work for about 5 mins then it would start searching and asking me to confirm to connect to my network. After some time NM kept on asking all the time to confirm the network and key.I reset the router and check to see if other PCs were OK and a Windoze & Linux laptops were fine, no problem there so it's not the routerd.I'm wondering if the broadcomm card is starting to fail as it heats up or could it be a corrupt file or parametersNo updates have been done in the last month, it just started today. Here are the results from the log and dmesg:

[root@mylinux ~]# dmesg | grep b43

Fedora Networking :: Connecting To Non-broadcasting Networks Via CLI?

Aug 10, 2009

using a text interface for my computing but I have run into an issue. Does anyone know of a CLI networking tool that will allow me to connect to a non-broadcasting network? I have tried cnetworkmanager and attempted wpa_cli. The first does not seem to support it and I have not played too terribly much with the second. I have discovered that when I boot my comps into KDE and tell NetworkManager to connect to the network cnetworkmanager can find it then, but that does me no good for what I want, which is to boot my computers straight to runlevel 3 and get connected. If it means anything I am running F11 on a Dell Inspiron 1521 Laptop with a Broadcom wireless card (awfully annoying to set up, but it is working fine) as well as F11 on a desktop of my own designing with a Netgear wireless adapter.

P.S. I realize that broadcasting the network would be the trivial solution but alas I am not the admin on the router and he is out of town.

Fedora Networking :: Connecting To Wireless Router ?

May 5, 2010

When fedora initially starts up, the network manager shows all the available wireless connections available to me. However, when I select my wireless connection, it will go through the loading process where it shows the two green dots and the circular moving blue streak, then it prompts me to put in the wpa password.

This is where the trouble starts...when i input my wpa password, it will proceed to attempt to connect to my network but it never succeeds in doing so--it will keep on asking me to input my wpa password. when i finally get sick of doing it over and over again, i just hit cancel instead of retrying to connect.

After i stop trying to connect, the network manager no longer shows all the available wireless networks--the list is completely empty, and i can find no way to get the list to show up again, with the exception of restarting my computer.

I am able to connect to the internet with a wired ethernet, but id like my wireless to work.

Fedora Networking :: CLI - Nmcli() - Connecting To New Wireless

Oct 31, 2010

I find it interesting that the only CLnetwork manager is nmcli(). Are there others you know and love?

I have been trying to use nmcli(), and I am having some difficulty.

When I run...

Code:

I get a great list of available wireless connections, but it seems to me I am not getting the 'right' information, or I do not know how to implement the information I am getting.

When I try to connect using the

Code:

It tells me, 'Unkown connection'.

So I wonder in the devices list is the SSID, in the single quotes, not the id the 'up' command requires? Or how do use the SSID? As far as the UUID, this option works for me, but I can only see the UUID if I had already once before connected to this connection. Is there any way to see the UUID of a new connection?

Fedora Networking :: Connecting IPhone 3Gs To Netbook Using F?

Apr 24, 2011

I am trying to connect my iphone 3GS to my netbook using Fedora 15, tethered via a USB cable. When I first plug it in, it recognizes it as a digital media player and pops up a dialog asking what I want to do, recognizes it as media with digital photos on it and pops up another dialog asking what I want to do, mounts the documents folder on the iphone and opens an file manager window, and adds an eth1 interface dynamically. The network manager recognizes it as a wired connection and tries to connect to it. This times out and the interface is left off.

This is so close to just working right out of the box. I really commend the Fedora team for this release. I am thinking of submitting this as a bug, but just want to ask here first, is there there something I don't know about the iphone which makes it unable to connect to eth1? Mentioned here was an ad-hoc network connection, is this mandatory for connecting to iphone through the USB cable? Ideally it would just connect to the cellular network and pull an IP, but I'm a newbie with this and am not sure about the level of security that affords me.

Networking :: Connecting Mac Book To Fedora Server?

May 9, 2011

We have a mac book connected to our network. It can surf the web and even get into our network files. However, these network files are on linux, and finding the open files (not password protected) is fine. But we need the mac book to get into the protected files to edit our media. When we connect to the linux server, there is a pop-up asking for a login. We enter the correct credentials that work for everyone else to get into our protected files, but these credentials don't work... There is a message that pops up: "This operation cannot be completed because the original file '<file_name_here>' cannot be found." But it found the other open files...? what do we do to get this to work? The macbook is 'os x' and the linux server is 'fedora 10'

Fedora Networking :: Connecting Linksys WUSBv2.8 To Internet

Dec 3, 2009

I am trying to connect my desktop to the internet via my Linksys wireless usb WUSB11v2.8 adapter. My network showed up in the Network manager as soon as I installed Fedora and it asked for my network key, but it still doesn't connect. It just keeps asking.I was reading that possibly the driver is not compatible with the OS. I heard about RPMs and the ndiswrapper program that supposedly is supposed to help with compatibility issues so I went and installed both via a direct ethernet connection.

I guess my question is now since I have these programs, what else do I need and how do I go about completing the installation? I pretty much need to be baby stepped by step into how to do this including the best place to install the software, what files do I need, and where and how if I even need to get my device's chipset.
