Fedora Networking :: Enable Wireless Networking Does Not Work In Windows?
Jun 20, 2009
I've been experiencing a problem with Fedora in which when I enable Wireless in Fedora, Wireless networking does not work in windows. HOwever, when disabled, it works correctly. Windows claims it is "not able to find any networks to connect to"
EDIT: It seems that when wireless is disabled manually on fedora before shutdown, there are no problems in windows.

I have a Belkin Enhanced Wireless USB Network Adapter Model # F6D4050 v2. The drivers are for windows but the windows wireless drivers app doesnt work. I see a tutorial for a linksys that appears to have the same chipset, but I am not sure if any of the steps need to be modified, also my kernel is a bit different. Here is my kernel:

I just loaded the boot-able cd, and I do not have enough knowledge with Linux bases OS's to figure out how to enable the wireless card. ifconfig produces an eth0 and a lo, when I try ifup wlan0, it says: configuration for wlan0 not found. I have looked at all the forums notes and cannot find anything that seams like it is the same problem.

I am new to Linux and i just installed f15 kde on my computer. I have a wifi usb adapter and it is recognized and everything, however, i cannot seem to find/enable wireless and the wireless tab in the network manager is greyed out. Also, from reading other posts i believe there should be an option to 'Enable wireless' when left clicking the network interface icon in the toolbar. All I see is is 'Enable networking'.
lsusb:
dmesg:
iwconfig:
I had Ubuntu installed before and it worked fine. As far as I can tell all drivers and firmware are working fine so i just need to enable wireless networking i believe.

I recently installed Fedora on an old computer of mine that I pulled out of storage, and I can not get it to detect my wireless network. Previously it was running Windows XP and I was able to get it to connect, but now that I'm on Fedora it doesn't even detect my network. I tried lspci and lsusb but I didn't find anything under network, only Ethernet showing my linksys. I know I must have a wireless chipset, but nothing will show.
I also attempted to yum install ndiswrapper because another thread with a similar problem suggested this, and when it prompted me for my password it wouldn't let me type. How would I go about fixing this?

I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 in one of my notebook's HD partitions. It all runs smoothly, except for wireless. For some reason, Ubuntu only finds my wireless connections after I boot into Windows and then restart. If I boot straight into Ubuntu, I always get the 'device not ready' or 'disconnected' message under 'Wireless networks'.
Does anyone know what might be the cause of the problem and what can I do to solve it?
Below are some information about my computer, as requested in the 'How to post a wireless issue' thread.
These are the results AFTER restarting from Windows.
Machine brand: Mirax - XT8000 NTL 243200
Code:
lspci
02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01)

I just upgraded to natty last night, and everything is working fine except for the network manager. I can enable and configure the wireless card via bash, but the network manager widget will not manage the wireless card.
When I first boot up, the "Enable wireless" check box is greyed out. After I enable the card via the terminal, the "Enable wireless" check box becomes ungreyed, but every time I click it, it instantly unchecks itself. I feel like Currly from the Three Stoogies. Check, uncheck, Check, uncheck.. "Slaps face repeatedly."

how to go about getting Ubuntu to receive an ad-hoc wireless ICS enabled connection. The internet connection is shared through a virtual machine running XP (with the USB wireless dongle under XP's control), on my desktop PC, in order to escape my ISP's no NAT policy. Ubuntu is on both the desktop PC (the sender), and the laptop (the receiver). The desktop and laptop also run windows 7. I managed to get my laptop Ubuntu to connect to my virtual machine XP, by setting the IP, subnet and gateway of all wireless devices, as was suggested in [URL] - I did use the Network Manager GUI, but pinging the desktop doesn't work.
Even with the IP configuration, Windows 7 on the laptop receives the internet fine. The next step is getting Ubuntu to receive. I can do any kind of configuration in a virtual machine, such as install Ubuntu. In virtual machine XP I used 192.168.0.1 with subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 1.1.1.1. On the laptop Ubuntu 192.168.0.2 same everything else. I understand nothing about networks. I know there is stuff I can do in the console, but how will Network Manager cope with me doing that?

My wireless can connect to my router without a problem, but in order to do so (after boot) I must first disable networking in the Notification Area and then re-enable it. I don't mind it too much, but when other people use my computer, it's made painfully obvious to me, that this was never an issue with Windows 7 (as much as I despise MS).

I can get the command program to work, but not the desktop program to work. Windows Wireless Driver was working, but now every time I try to start it, it won't load, and will just be an empty window. This happened after I tried to installed a driver (which was the wrong one), and I restarted the computer. After this happened, I tried to reinstall the program, but to no avail.
The command program works, but I can't use the command lsusb, because it just pauses and doesn't do anything. Do I have to wait for it to kick in. I'm pretty sure that this is not it, because when I try the lspci, this works fine (but it's not the one I need). Please help, and don't make any stupid replies.

Recently I have installed Fedora 14 on my other laptop. It's a dual boot with Windows 7. Everything worked perfectly fine, networking included, until my friend didn't accidently turned off the wireless by pressing a wireless button on the laptop. Since then the wireless on Fedora doesn't work. It does on Windows thought. I've tried restarting the laptop few times, but the wireless still doesn't want to work again.

I have a server that NFS exports the /home directory out to other computers. On the desktop they all work great, but on a wireless laptop, this is where the problem occurs. The wireless enables after the person logs in, rendering the NFS export /home useless on the laptops. Is there anyway to have the wireless enable correctly on the boot so that NFS can mount properly at boot also?I'm using Fedora 11 (32bit) with a wireless router that has a security of WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]. I could switch to some of the older versions if necessary to get this working.

Quick question. I have a Dell Latitude E6500 with Fedora 13 on it. There is a wireless radio switch (hardware) on the right side of the machine, next to the CD drive. When I flip it to "off", the wireless gets disconnected -- as I expect. But when I flip the switch back to the "on" position, nothing happens -- wireless is still disabled.
How do I re-enable the wireless after I flip the switch back to the "on" position?

I been a windows guy forever, and wanted to make the switch. Anyways, I am hoping to do a wireless wake-on-lan from a windows box. I have an older laptop that has a dead screen and I am trying to use it as a server. So, I want to be able to VNC the linux box from my vista machine. I think that's going to be straight forward. But, the linux machine doesn't have a builtin wireless card, so I am using a USB wireless deal. If I let the laptop hibernate/sleep after being idle, can I wake from my vista box over my network?

[root@localhost utils]# ./ndiswrapper -i /fatfs/Archiv/Softwere/Drivers/Dr_software/bcmwl6.inf
installing bcmwl6 ...

after ndiwwrapper -m
it gives warning( or error )[root@localhost utils]# ./ndiswrapper -m

I am a day old in ubuntu-world, and I am having internet issues. Yesterday, after i had installed ubuntu alongside windows 7. To begin with it did not detect wireless (not networks but wireless itself), so i figured it was something to do with the adapter and came to these forums where many things were suggested. none worked. So I restarted the system for good measure and lo and behold it detected wireless networks and connected to the internet almost immediately.
Now, after a day, when i have logged in to ubuntu again, there is no wireless detected. The same problem. When I right click on the network icon in the notification area i see that Enable Networking is checked but "Enable Wireless" is darkened. There is no way to check it.
Can anybody please advise as to what to do next. I am using ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx I believe). My system config is i7, 512MB ram.

"Dell 1525 WLAN PCIe card with11n mini-Card & external antenna" wireless card. It got recognized fine by FC12, but it was rather slow. I had read that life would be better in FC13 with the new kernel. After a long wait, I upgraded to FC13 yesterday.
It seems that the wireless is indeed faster. However, it it clearly a lot slower than under Windows 7 (it is a dual boot PC). My test is simply to play say Hulu in full screen: under Windows it looks fine, under FC13 it plays in slow motion.

I've got a edimax ew-7711utn wireless adaptor. It doesn't work. Really what I want is to take it back and get a wireless card that will work.

I have recently installed ubuntu on my laptop. However I cannot enable the wireless on it. The card is registered and drivers are installed. From reading previous forums i can guess that its because its "Hard Blocked"" (assumptions). However the switch for it is in the on postion.
